  • The other live version is even better. That was from the original 1973 vinyl album pictured in the video. I have both versions perhaps will upload it some time.

  • Derek and the Dominoes at their very best!! Wow, Jim Gordon shows some amazing chops on the drums. Unbelievable!!

Eric playing some great solos. I never thought this song could sound so good!!!

  • Wow, I never thought that this song could get any better.

  • jim is very vest solo!!!!!

  • Gordon would wave his arms around as he was walking down the road. He was'nt crazy he was just playin air drums !

  • Eric only reached this phantastic level in 2005 again, Royal Albert Hall... but his dominos

never , they lightened up for these unforgettable moments and make me crazy after all these years -- Jim knows Gordon Lightfoot your Quality ??

  • When Jim Gordon goes into his solo at 9:01, that is some of the best drumming you will ever hear, anywhere, any time! It simply blows me away, and I've been playing for over 30 years.

  • How awesome man! Thanks for letting my ears swim in this!

  • I grew up to this song,...

I am not very far down the path in these old mans clothes,...but Let it Rain takes my mind places it wants to go,...

    ..so I follow

  • And to think it is all Clapton on guitar and vocals since Duane was not at this recording.

  • I bought this piece of vinyl in '76. Still have it. Still love it. This is Clapton at his best. Young and uncommercial. Can you imagine this band with Duane in maybe '77?

  • this band could and should be rated as one of the best ever

  • i bought this 71 72 my god cant remember one my favorites

  • This is when music meant something and when people actually went to a concert to witness magic between four musicians who sounded like a damn orchestra!

  • Jim reminds me alot of Hal Blaine and the session work that he did ,as well. To see the credits of his session work and to know many of the songs that he played on, is a tremendous gift to us listeners. Despite what happened in his life , which is tragic, I am in awe what this man has done for music.

  • @gizmo3523 As Hal was his mentor, he would have some what of Hal's sound, however, I think he took it one step further. He could play jazz too.

  • An 18 minute version-- whoa!!!

Clapton at 5:08-5:15 is incredibly fast.

And yes, Gordon is amazing on drums, especially the drum solo starting at 09:01.

  • Jim Gordon is phenomenal on this track.

  • Wally!!!! never get this sort of experience back, glad I lived through these times.....keeps you sane!

  • @headstockfagburn Yes, yes. Totally agree. I am glad too. Does indeed keep you sane, in a crazy sort of way. Amazing track. Mad bass. Cheers.

  • I would not have continued drumming had I not heard Jim Gordon way back when. Not a note wasted.

  • Jim Gordon... what a shame how his life turned out! About my most favorite drummer in the world of rock. Tasty, creative with a distinct sound...

  • ahhh Jim Gordon !WHAT a drummer!

  • totally blew me away. thanks for sharing.

  • They don't have concerts like this anymore...fuckin' sad.

  • Sorry to use this forum for this, guys, but what is this I've heard about Jim Gordon? Is he out of prison? What has been his story since the 80s?

  • Four guys on stage, strung out, making some of the best live

    rock and roll in history,

Sorry...I call 'em as I see 'em.

  • Clapton is smoking. So is the rest of the band. wow. wish they had lasted more.

  • Absolutely Awesome....too bad no live video of this performance....would have been right with Hendrix at Woodstock...

  • Great job of uploading.

  • i remember hearing a story that gordon was the one who wrote and performed the piano solo at the end of layla.....thats brilliant enough on its own

  • @feeeball that was bobby whitlock he plays piano organ and guitar he was in the hammond organ magazine when he was in an R&B group down south before he was in derek and the dominoes Gordon killed his mother with a hammer and was in jail

  • @spacepatrolman gordon did write the piano to layla

  • I like that Buddy Rich comparison. This is one of the best albums I've ever worn out twice! Thanks for posting.

  • I exchanged email about 2 years ago, says he's not interested in visitors. He has a my space page but most likely wont reply. There is a FB fan page "Jim Gordon" Known him for 40 years, wonderful, soft man.

  • @georgec2468 Prisoners have no access to email. Maybe a letter?

  • Best rock and roll drummer of all time, hope he has peace.. listen to him on Fallin' in Love with SHF......

  • Jim Gordon has always been one of my alltime fav drummers. Very very unique. Does anybody know how he is today? Where is he now? etc. etc. Yes...of course I know his past history. He needs our prayers still...and I mean that sincerely. But I would love an update if anybody can add anything to date. Thank you. Joel in Tucson

  • @naderchaser Jim is still under psychiatric evaluation at Atascadeo State Hospital, psychiatric ward forensic psychiatry. It's between Los Angeles and San Francisco. He's been paroled twice since the death of his mother in 1983. Jim was a great drummer. As you said, a very unique fast style. Yes, our prayers are always with him. Drugs played an enhancement roll in his on-going mental state.

  • @slinkydinky999 Thank you for the update. Sounds like you might be privy to info that isn't general knowledge. I DO hope that Jim has gotten well enough to at the very least have visits away from Atascadero and into the general population. Would you know if he has recovered enough to carry on intelligent conversations for lengthy times...to where it isn't evident that he is / has suffered thru what he has gone through? Thank you.

  • @slinkydinky999 More like schizophrenia. He has never been paroled. With the drugs, he self-medicated.

  • @Beth19771 Yes, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia....and with the mixture of drugs it didn't help his condition. The rest of the guys in the band had a difficult time wondring if he was just self -medicating all the time or if he was having a mental breakdown. At any rate, he was a fantastic fast drummer. First time I heard this solo from this album, I was blown away.

  • One of the best drum solo's ever recorded right here.

  • fantastic !

  • thank you soooo much! ive heard about this and finally here it is!
