By far the best song he ever recorded what a classic I have not heard this version I think or its been a long time, wow only just over 30,000 listens I am shocked a true master work of sonic art great, great song
This is the best version out there. Hands down. Piano is so beautiful. I want the EXACT sheet music for the album version piano :( it's so beautiful..
Hey, thanks, kyle --- I've been listening to various version of "AIK" tonight, including Jimmy Webb himself, and got to wondering if JW did the piano on Art's rendition, which is "the" one, I think. You had exactly what I was looking for, here, a list of the people on the session --- Larry Knechtel, eh? :-) Heard that name a few times, here and there, mostly on great records (BTW, I do believe it's "-tel", not "-tal", but I knew who you meant, in any event --- thanks, again!)
This Webb masterpiece somehow fell through the cracks of mainstream pop. What a beautiful song sung to perfection by Art Garfunkel. and, let us not forget the georgeous lyrics.
Excellent piece of work! Thank you very much for Sharing!
What a way of meeting people and get to see their talent. At first was reluctant being on youtube, but getting to do this has brought me into the houses of some very special people. You are one of them. Life; isn't it wonderful!
Keep up the good work. Hope You Are Having A Splendid Day!
@XxLetsTalkGamesxX Yes, it is a good albu. But Art did deserve more faem I think. But, if it had been more successful, he probabaly wouldn't have got to do his wlak across America, his poetry, his famiyl life, his philisophical and spritiual journeys or his artistic growth. Perhaps it planned that way.
@boomerlady It was a great performance. He has a niave charm about him, which caem through in the film. You litterally though he was 19, 34 and 41 in that film. he coudl act like a virgin teenager, and then a scene later, a middle-aged Jewish doctor. Great Job.
I first heard this record while preparing to graduate from 8th grade during May 1973. It blew me away then. 37 years later, it still does. My favorite Webb song, performed passionately and beautifully by AG:) --
man, after a hard day and a very, very bad month....this is healing oil. Thanks so much to all you folks who post S & G songs. These boys have brought so much peace to so many people over the years.
Jimmy Webb................ one of the greatest lyric writers of the last 50 years........ He writes for Angels............. and they express his joy of life!
May God Bless Art and Jimmy for their Amazing talent ........... for we have been indeed blessed by them...!

If people want to know what mature pop music sounds like, it sounds like this. One of the best-written ballads of the rock era.

This should be the theme song for Ronnie and Sammie on Jersey Shore.

This song burns like a fire when you're in the middle of break-up or divorce but that only makes the deep emotion in the song more poignant.

I can't believe Jimmy Webb could write songs as varied as this beauty and that bizarre "MacArthur's Park."

Larry Knechtel (LA) and Paul Griffin (NYC) were the top studio musicians on piano throughout the 60's and 70's.
This is a tour de force for Knechtel. Griffin's tour de force was probably his playing on Don McLean's American Pie.
