I'm a huge fan of this genre. Unfortunetly I don't touch Epica, the death grunts totally ruin the music. If they stopped it they could be a massive band with a much broader fan base. The grunts alienate most fans. Its a shame because Epica's songs are fantastic apart from the grunts.
Great job (With the music!) - Sorry, but I'm not a fan of the video! You've replaced jarring 'grunts' with jarring imagery that's far too repetitive...:(
Absolutely agree with RicoLen1 -- cannot stand the death grunts. Just sounds like a dying animal or something, which I do not prefer in my music. I was ready to buy an Epica album (several, maybe all), until Cry for the Moon was ruined by those hideous grunts. Trying way too hard to be shocking, offensive, tough, whatever the heck they're trying to convey. There are plenty of death metal bands, just wish they didn't ruin this band with grunts.
perfect video for evanescence die hard fans...metal surely doesn't need them, grow up kids and stick to your "awesome" and "growlless" evanescence and within temptation
@RSevlp45 CAn you calm down with WT, WT it's not in the same line of Ev. It's metal from Europe just like Epica. WT is more mature than Ev, and I can fucking tell you you haven't listened songs like Enter, Gatekeeper, Grace or The Dance :@ In fact, those are heavier than Epica
@TearisShatteredMoon Ahem. Put attention of what my comment says. I'm trying to defend those bands because I LIKE THEM. As you I'm sick of people confusing Evanescence, WT & Epica just because of the singers. They're not even the same kind of music.
@kiotocitystories No worry, biker chick, headbanger, Gothic, rock climber ex wrestler and carpenter.... now working as a Gothic writer..... most people assume male
@RSevlp45 By the way dip, First of all no need to insult bands you don't like cause they are a different style (but Within does hardcore as well and growls in their early cd's and is talking about going back to that)
Dude, I want a CD of these songs you've got here. This is great. I don't listen to Epica solely because of the death growl. It drives me nuts. The Last Crusade is one of the best songs I've heard, but for ages its been one of the only songs of theirs I've been willing to listen to. That's why I've always stuck with Nightwish. Thanks so much for doing this. Simone Simons is amazing all on her own.
Right ... I have the single version and it is cut worst and missing the entire 2nd half of the song. This variation is more complete even without Mark.
well, obviously this one is a really good song, thou the grunts are already part of the song, for those of us who have had always heard the grunt version...anyway,good work...
But one of the most important characteristics of symphonic metal is the Beauty & The Beast effect- an ethereal woman's voice along with death grunts. & Epica does it in such a beautiful manner... I wouldn't be able to listen to an entire death grunt CD, but Epica makes it beautiful when they use it. Long live Mark Jansen :P
Interesting concept. I've never cared for the death voice... grunts... what have you. But many of their songs call for a counter point to her voice and just removing those parts doesn't exactly work.
While I would like to hear a male vocal part to counter hers that isn't grunt style... I enough their music enough not to let those parts ruin it for me.
The whole reason for making these versions is the fact that I love Simone's beautiful voice and Mark's compositions, but can live without Mark's distracting vocal contrast ... that plus the fact that they released an official cut single version w/o grunts that is missing the entire 2nd half of the song.
People definitely appreciate Simone's voice. I have no real problem with the grunts, but if you're going to edit them out, leave Simone's voice in too.
no grunt epica.. how lame.. and if you edit out the grunts, you should do it good, cause the part between "makes us obscene" and "dolendo discit mori mortalis" is crap..

@kiotocitystories Why does anyone even bring up evanescence in metal videos they are Gothic alternative rock, with a soul voice low key singer.
Whether someone likes or hates them they don't belong here being compared.

What is this song without grunts??
The grunts symbolize how a person can turn mad just because of drugs
If you don't like the grunts, you should listen to the single version

you right, and not only in this song...Grunts are fine just dont overuse them

@NoGruntEpica No, it's NOT. Without Mark the message of the song is not complete
I appreciate Simone's voice, all of those who have listened Epica have done it. But what's Epica without Mark?
In fact, almost of us who like Epica appreciate more the work of Simone rather than the work of the other members

it's ok to listen to these versions, they sound good, but there's no way these versions are better then the originals

It's too bad that you've simply removed the parts with the grunts. Perhaps a karaoke effect could have served you better.
It's still a good song though.

The reason the single version cut the grunts, was because mainstream radio fucktards are afraid of anything besides r&b, hip hop and other clishes.
