ADHD in the intellectual sense (which necessarily impacts behavior) is merely a different way in which some people are born to acquire knowledge - that's it. I've had ADHD since childhood and finally figured out and come to understand, by the grace of the Lord, exactly what it is. It's NOT a 'disorder' - only a different way of processing/acquiring knowledge.
Well when ya have a bunch of sicko Nazis educating our children, mixed with some Prozac and Money and a Draft list it's enough to drive anybody crazy!!
did anyone ever thought that everyone and thier own case? your doing it wrong Dr. and its not your place to say this things as "the Truth" the truth is that some people can function without the stimulents, and to others it just makes thier life much better cuz they can finally do things that they couldnt before. the main problem is the WHOLE drug abuse in america. people pop pills [anti-depressions for exp] like its painkillers. talk about that and dont destroy peoples lives with your "Truth".
I ADHD is related to toxins in the environment. There are numerous studies on lead poisoning and it effects the nervous system and behavior. Lead poisoned children are 7 times more likely to drop out of school.
My brother had ADHD and my dad REFUSED to put him on medications because he saw other kids who looked like "zombies" when they were on medications. My brother has turned out just fine without meds. My dad just spent a lot of time going on walks with him, talking to him about ways to "calm down his mind" and control his impulses and calm any anger issues he had. My brother is now an 18 year old senior and he's done just fine without any drugs.
i am from holland concerta is no good fore you believe me i agree its makes you feel bether but if you stop then you gonna feel bad just like cocaine dont take it 100% bad drug
Dr. Bruce Levine who is also a psychologist with a Ph.D. in clinical psychology is also speaking the truth. Another good one who is actually a psychiatrist in education only is Dr. Peter Breggin.
I love it! I use a format called SOAP, Subjective, Objective, Assessment (diagnosis), Plan(treatment). What Dr. Breeding is saying is that psychiatry, removes the Objective... so its SAP, sap aka sucker, dupe etc...
i dont think it is fake but people dont need to be pumped with drugs either.
i have adhd and dyspraxia and i have never taken medication for this in my life. i live my life like any other kid. it can be a bit difficult but i think it can easily be managed with good parenting and a good structure in the home like for homework and stuff.
ADHD is not a disability people, its just a way a person thinks, operates, and behaves.. Society shouldnt be so controling like it knows whats best for the people, the reason why people with these traits have problems is that their the only ones with it, and pressure usually come from authority figures (cops, teachers, etc) who are people with their own disorder, "Ego"
no shit sherlock, its a drug, of course you'll feel the difference on and off it. lets say you are happier on the drug, thats because drugs are known to make you feel happy, whether you like them or not, you have to accept the consequences of a drug, such as mental effects or physical effects to your heart or other organs over an extended period of time (years maybe)
psychetruth I have been looking for this type of help for years my son is 15 ADHD and is being medicated with Concerta. Thank you so much for posting this video. I am going on to hopefully part 2, I am a single mom and need all the help I can get to clear a path for my lonely son. Thank you again.
dont give ur son any ADHD medication trust me you'll fuck him up in the long run. I was told i have ADHD like 8 years ago, im 18 now and im happy i stopped takin that shit its really terrible
The anti-drug campaigns target Marijuana as dangerous on so many levels, yet, there is so little attention paid to the overdoses and deaths from prescription meds. MJ is a wonderplant, and the govt. has lost all credibility from its Reefer Madness propaganda through the years.
Me too my son is only 6 and was complaining that his heart was beeping too fast and his chest hurt. Fuck the docs and the government. Its just a sales market gimic. The more medication they come out with the more money in their pockets, I would not recommend medication of this type for anyone. :)
ADD and ADHD are false. I have been working with kids who have been labeled (diagnosed) with these two things for 6 years. There is really nothing wrong with these kids. 99% of the time kids are labeled within the school environment. The militaristic public school environment is the most unnatural learning environment in existence. So bright, brave, creative, energetic, imaginative children are labeled because they don't thrive within the institutional confines of militaristic schooling.
Finally a truthful man, I believe that ADD is a part of the socialistic movement in America, also we are accelerating technology and economy making economy too important in our lives, this being done by the socialist control of corporate america, the basis to economy IS addiction as we loose intuitive intinctive intuition as we adapt to the perpetual change, that change is our interdependent relationship to our individual perceptions of reality or social conscience..I once was consumed, nowfree
hoyl crap, we don't need a bunch of studies and scientific research on this bullshit diagnosis. there was already an episode of south park about it.
ADD and ADHD medicine is just another part of a corporate prescribed childhood drug cocktail. MSG, artificial sweetening, too much natural sugar, grease, sodium, preservatives, trans fat, child molesters at churches, etc. all of this together will solve hyperactivity and dumb down incoming generations
ADD/ADHD, Hypomania, Cyclothymia, and Asperger Syndrome are not "disorders". We just don't fit into your world of rules and blind obedience. We are not robots who think, feel, and act on command or on que. Without us, you would all live sad little black and white world. Hell, without us you would all still be reading by oil lamps...that is if you'd even be reading at all. You're trying to disprove ADD by hunting for its causes as though it were a disease, but the trouble is, it's not.
The only myth is that ADD is a handicap. In reality, it is a superior trait. The "deficit" and "disorder" belongs to normals who can't keep up with us. We are Homo Sapien model 2.0 (AKA Homo Superior). I have deep ADD and the question of the reality of it is beyond doubt. It's a fact. This guy is a quack. Homo Inferior. I couldn't think as slow as he does if I were sedated. ADD is real. Hyperfocus is real. Ever read a 1,500 page book in 6 hours? I did that Sunday, just for shits and giggles.
ADHD is purely a fashion. A few years ago it was dyslexia. It's always something. People love to be labled and often are given money because of their 'fake illness'. These things do exist but not to nearly this extent.
When parents actually stayed at home and raised their own kids and gave them 'time' (keyword)and values instead of dumping them with a childminder, this problem didn't exist.
Shame parents think of careers more than their children.
Personalities are different. Couldn't they argue that shyness is a mental illness by the same arguments? A checklist of "symptoms", but no lab tests, etc..? I think it's sad that maybe in the 10 years of taking a drug while a kid's brain is developing that drug "did the job". And so when a 20 year old tries to get off of the drug, he/she feels totally helpless without it. Perhaps it did damage but there is no way to prove it! They'd argue "well she needs the drug, see?"
Is ADHD actually "PWLPSD" Parents Who Lack Parenting Skills Disorder?
Or Maybe FTPD "First Time Parents Disorder." For those parents that have no experience Kids.
Or too much flouride in the water supply syndrome.
What are the stats in places like India where processed food chalked full of all those nasty chemicals WE eat are non-existent? Is ADHD prevelant in India?
I see Lilike as my talkative indigo child :) Listening She has a lively imagination. My miracle baby who has an amazing abundance of energy she overcame a high risk pregnancy and sickmess.
buddhists have a more creative name for 'adhd' and it's called 'monkey mind'. they actually meditate to tame the 'monkey mind'. it's not a new concept either.
its hard for me to believe that so many kids have this disease. seeing as how kids years and years ago didnt have such a problem as kids do these days, it seems to me like the problem for most kids is that thier parents arent doing thier jobs. and it doesnt help with all these doctors trying to prescribe pills. the first day i went to theropy for depression, my theropist asked me is my phsyciatrist could give me some medication, which was zoloft. the FIRST day. how terrible is that?
this is just a question, I'm not taking any stance because I really don't know enough, but I have heard that people who take ritalin who DO NOT have "add" or"adhd" become hyperactive from it, whereas those who have "add" or "adhd" apparently calm down when taking ritalin.
I was wondering if this was true, and why.
thank you for this video, it is very interesting :)
If you take too much a stimulant it will cause you to slow down and a child's dose of a stimulant will generally speed up an adult who has a much larger body.
I recall talking to a drug abuser once and I asked him what it was like to be on crystal meth and he went on and on about how well he could concentrate when high on crystal meth.
ADHD drugs are banned from the Olympics and many sporting events (even high school sports) often because they give the athlete and unfair advantage. They are performance enhancer drugs for anyone regardless of an ADHD diagnosis or not.
Additionally, they are common drugs of abuse in both high school and college students who do not have ADHD but who take them to stay up all night studying or to help improve their concentration and sometimes cheerleaders even take them to help w/ weight loss.
Well, i have ADHD and i get 40 mg Ritalin (speed) each day.. But i don't use it.. Only when i go to partys.. But when im at a party i take 400 mg instead of 40 mg.. It's way better than booze..
HarboeDrinker. Logically, your comment tells me that if you do not need your medication then you don't have the illness. You appear to be yet another person who is abusing drugs. You are purely a 'legal' junkie. I don't know where you are in the world, but if you were in the UK you would receive quite a bit of money because of your fake 'illness'. Lets hope you never become a parent because your children won't stand a chance. You have labled yourself and don't realise it.
I can tell you from experience, it goes either way. I was diagnosed with ADHD, and those drugs ruined a good portion of my childhood. They would make me withdrawn, jittery and on the verge of panic attacks. Friend of mine who didn't have ADD but was diagnosed had the same issues, to the lesser extent.
I had heard that, theoretically, watching excessive hours of television contributes, or causes ADHD. Since you are exposed to rapid image changes, such as having to readjust to every commercial and scene, visually and audibly, in small small blocks of time. Is there truth to this?
Are the brain scans fake? The books I've read have shown pictures of brain imaging where an ADHD mind has significantly less activity in the frontal cortex than "normal" children. I'm not being condescending, seriously are these brain scans still assumptions and is there not enough evidence to prove they have any bearing?
brain scans are only used for research purposes and never for diagnosis. They have never found reliable biological markers with them. There are several reasons for this.
1) People in these studies are already diagnosed. They therefore have been on medication or are on medication when the study occurs. It is therefor difficult to determine if any noted differences are do to the medication or the "disorder".
2) Not everyone in the study group will show anomalies and some of the people in the control group will show the same anomalies as the study groups.
So, some of the people with the ADHD diagnosis will show less activity in the frontal cortex but some of he people with the ADHD diagnosis will show normal or even elevated levels of activity in the frontal cortex.
And
Some of the people in the control groups (without ADHD) will show lower activity even though they don't have ADHD.
3) Depending on the momentary psychological state of the person, a brain scan can look different. An unhappy or upset persons brain scan can look different from bored person or a sexual aroused person or a hungry person even.
Scientists can't tell if scan anomalies are due to psychological state or if the psychological state is due to the scanned anomaly.
This is what a psychiatrists told the New York Times, "The thing for people to understand is that right now, the only thing imaging can tell you is whether you have a brain tumor," or some other neurological damage, said Paul Root Wolpe, a professor of psychiatry and sociology at the University of Pennsylvania's Center for Bioethics.
He added, "This imaging technology is so far from prime time that to spend thousands of dollars on it doesn't make any sense." "
to barbarypirates that why i took the t.v out my house because i was using it as a baby sister..this great technology comes with a great price and one of them is call adha add........ great comment !
to michaelmannequin i can see were you coming from because pill don't work on my son it not until he was 16 years old and behind my back he was smoking weed and that the only thing that work.. the government don't want us to have weed because it is very cheap... now i was all ways against drug, smoking even beer and wine but i have to admit weed was the only thing that change my son life forever! now he doing great in school he not going in and out of jail he is at peace he is living with dad.
ADHD is NOT a biological issue, though it is perpetrated as such. Parents need to start asking more questions. The most important being: Doc, if you say that ADHD is caused by a chemical imbalance, how did you determine this by subjective testing only?
(this is impossible to do by the way, yet they claim things like: I know it when I see it, etc) In order to determine that a chem imbalance is the culprit, one must first establish a baseline of 'normality' to then determine the 'abnormality'.
do not use medications! they are so horrible! I was taking them for 7 years and I quit and I am soooooo much better off without them (i never really had been to school without them til i quit a year and a half ago)
If they don't fit the behavioural mould, children get into trouble. It makes it difficult for teachers to go through their material and go at the pace THEY would like to.
I say children with ADHD are the ones that become leaders, take risks, are energetic and have a great personality/humour!!
Don't EVER scold your children for being different or stepping out of line at school.
Promote diverse character and personality! Throw away the cookie-cutter!
But what about the impact and disruption a child with ADHD has on the rest of the class at school? I take your point, but the needs of the majority should be considered. Every child matters, including the one without ADHD.
A generation of stupid people call any child who threatens their stupid heirarchy as "ADHD, Aspergers" etc. Ironically, those who need to categorize evolved children and drug them out of true feelings, chemically forcing common-man (reduced) IQ levels upon them with CRYSTAL METH are the ones with the real and apparent "psychopathologies".
Thank you, thank you, thank you for stating the truth from a "psychiatric" point of view. I have been steadfast in my determination NOT to medicate my so-called ADD child. May I also suggest that you address the bogus "medicating at an early age prevents later drug abuse." I work in an ER. A vast majority of our "recreational drug-seekers" have a lengthy relationship with ADHD medications in one form or another. They also use their prescriptions to pay for basic living needs. How sad.
i have adhd... i was on ritalin for 9 months after i came off it .. my self confidence droped dramatically and i am very nervous/anxious i got Fucking drugged..i REGRET taking that dumn shite.
I knew the medication was bad for me, I stopped taking it because the stuff like ritalin and concerta decreased my appetite and made me feel really weird, it's just not worth it to mess with your brain like that.
Another brainwash going on.'You just have to take information and decide on instinct.I tried Strattera It made my son autistic/fat .So no son for one year! Then he was put on Ritilin. Two days in he became autistic. I just touched his arm and he was angry with me for two hours. I stopped that 2 in hearing what ever thought came into his head! Nothing has worked. Why am I the parent that gets that top percent of kids that does not respond to drugs? What next? What do I do?
My advice to those teaching these children is small group or one to one teaching. Also at least one hour per school day spent out doors in some structured activity, not high impact sport but rather a calming pastime like gardening or handling animals. Most of these children get into trouble with teaching staff and wind up with low self esteem and often put themselves down. PRAISE PRAISE PRAISE. Lastly, do not make the mistake of thinking meds are the answer. take the time instead.
do you guys really think this is a huge government conspiracy to keep people spending money on medication?
dont get me wrong, im always open to conspiracy theories, and theres some i believe in. but come on. they do not have secret meetings in the cia where they come up with new disorders to get people to buy more medication.
add/adhd symptoms are universal in human behavoir, but the varying degree of the symptoms is what classifies it as a disorder.
If "add/adhd symptoms are universal in human behavoir" Then it's not a disorder, it's just human nature.
It's not a conspiracy it's simply good marketing.
It has very little to do with the government it has more to do with the pharmaceutical industry and the American Psychiatric Association.
The meetings aren't secret. They have held to discuss creating new disorders. The majority of the people that vote on disorders receive money from the big pharma.
has anybody got the feeling that drugs are a lot cheaper to produce than therapies, and can be made by a machine. These are profitable.
Also, the failure of children to adjust to schooling or literacy is hardly surprising. Schools and books have honestly had about 150 years to adjust to a totally inclusive 100% educated society so far, schooling techniques have got a lot further to go, rather than the kids failing to adapt. This is farcical.
You could really say that about any psychiatric illness as he even admitted yet he chose to victimize ADHD. There is no biological or chemical test for autism, bipolar, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety disorders, etc. additionally medical conditions that do have biological or chemical tests are often misdiagnosed or even missed by the examining instrument. and doctors will shove antibiotics your way just as easily as stimulants without being definitely sure you need them.
My life isn't totally ruined but I sure can sympathize I took it from Elementary school until High-School. These are the possible side effects given out by the pharmacy when you get them I got most of them to one degree or another. * Nervousness * Difficulty sleeping * Loss of appetite * Weight loss * Headaches * Upset stomach* Nausea or dizziness* Racing Heartbeat * Restlessness, agitation* Irritability, mood swings * Lack of spontaneity* Social withdrawal* Depression* Tics
i started taking ritalan in elementry, i switched to dexadrine and its somewhat helped. i feel the side affects were mostly mood swings, my friends tell me im acting weird ( like a zombie) , sleep loss ( last night i couldnt fall asleep til 1 am
i become obsessive about hobbies - for me art,
weight loss and apatite loss, depression, nerviousness, and my memory has been really bad. im 14 and am in grade 9...
..talk to your parents about this if you can honey..try to discuss another way, maybe diet or alternative schooling.Let adults know how you are feeling. Your art sounds fab by the way. Wish you the best..
I have ADD/ADHD and people like my mom put me on concerta (which I hate) to increase my focus. They tell me sometimes I act like a zombie which I have grown to like having as an excuse for not takin it. Well I'm not going any further. I just wanted to relate I guess. I do that alot.
Dude I know how you feel. Concerta sucks. I have been told that I act like a zombie. I even have a hard time laughing at jokes. Our doctors should not give us medication that changes our personality. They really need to look into the drugs they are giving us.
they dont even know precicely what adhd is but docters know exatly what to give you becouse giving medicen makes money for the industry research costs money
ADD/ADHD and all other foolish diseases like that are just fuckin excuses for people who can't behave!!everyone has a reason for acting like idiots,no one in today's society can take responsiblity for anything!Nothing is ever anyones fault..everyones got some fuckin mental illness were they can't be held accountable for their actions! I'm sick of it! the only thing any of these people have is EFE (Excuse For Everything)
Although I disagree with it's name, I am proud of having ADD. I also disagree with the tendency of authorities to refuse to understand and have a sense of perspective, in relation to those with ADD/ADHD and to attempt to repress and medicate their creative genius.
In western culture, we pride ourselves on democracy and freedom. And yet, because some of us are different in the way our minds operate, we are branded as having a deficiency and a disorder.
I have ADD and I'm proud of it. I'm proud of being able to hyperfocuse. I'm proud of being more creative than the "norm", proud to have the ability to see things from different angles and think outside the box. Just because the "norm" cant doesnt mean I have a disability. I'm able to appreciate the things in life and see the Big picture. Remember...ADD is treatable...You being trapped inside the box is not. God Bless
I have ADHD and have been diagnosed since 2nd grade and have been on several medications!!! im on concerta right now. but never take it. I usually just smoke pot and that does well
me too dude, I was on ritalin for a while but didnt much like being a zombie, so now I just toke up and most people dont even know I have adhd, good luck with the medicating:)
hmm, now how long this video lasted? almost 7 minutes? I bet it took 14 minutes from me to watch it, cause it was so hard to concentrate >_>. And Guess why it was so hard? -.- Thank you for uploading these videos here.
The fact that brain scans show different activity in people diagnosed with ADHD proves absolutely nothing. OF COURSE the brain activity of someone who's focusing on a meaningless task is going to differ from someone who isn't focusing on it. Brain scans have never shown causal proof that any mental problem is a physical disease, except to people who lack a basic grasp of logic.
ADHD might be a valid psychological disorder if a person is unable to pay attention to ANYTHING. But that isn't the case; people diagnosed with ADHD are able to pay attention to anything that they find interesting, but they're uninterested in school or work. That makes them uncooperative citizens who are unable/unwilling to adapt to the repressive structure of modern wage slave society, but that doesn't mean that they have a brain disease.
ok uhm i was wonderinq if anyone here has worked with ADHD kids like 14-18 or somthing whats the highest dose i should take? i mean i dont wanna over due it but my pills ARE NOT WORKING
all children are hyper active, when any of you were a child, did u have alot of energy? or did you enjoy sitting in a desk learning math or grammar? when i child squirms in his desk... mabe its a clue he has unspent energy, adhd meds are a way for pharmicutical companys to make money and for parents to control their children with very little effort
I am 68 year old man and I have ADHD it took untill I was 57 years old to realise that It was ADHD that made me wonder what was wrong with me!! I left my homeland when I was 24 to start over from nothing. Today I have used the power of ADHD to harness the benefits and contain the liabilities associated with ADHD.
I have started with nothing and been successfull I now own a number of successfull companies.
I believe in the power of ADHD once understood you can turn it into a powerfull tool.
why are children considered abnormal for not being able to sit attentively in a desk for long hours listening to boring teachers talk about stuff they don't care about? i'd say the abnormal ones are the ones that can do it. children are genetically designed to need stimulation and interaction, they aren't designed to sit still and pay attention to boring teachers. to fix adhd we should be focusing on the education system, not the children. their fidgeting is a clue that the system isn't working.
the scary reality is that adhd is such a popular way to control school kids that we have teachers making diagnoses and having the school refer them to a doc who will just write the script no questions asked. if a parent objects to this the school will call cps and threaten to have their kids taken away. this is insanity! how could giving speed to growing bodies ever be a good thing? this is what happens when you have drug companies pushing policy in government, health care and schools.
I am a psychologist in private practice and have worked with ADHD children and adults in Austin, Texas for about 20 years now. Importantly, many things can cause difficulties in attention that are not ADHD, such as anxiety, sleep deprivation, depression, dyslexia, and working memory deficits. You want to ensure that interventions truly address the underlying problem.
I like this guy. Which is saying a lot because I generally hate people of his profession. I believe there is nothing more dangerous than a irresponsible psychologist.
This may be a bit general for a comment on this video, but I think U.S. society has become a cesspool. We drug our children by the millions, imprison our fellow citizens by the millions, invade countries that haven't attacked us, have out-of-control, militarized police, etc., etc. Everything seems aimed at labeling, controlling, and punishing.
I took my daughter to a psychiatrist and a pediatrician, both said they didn't think anything was wrong with my daughter. Then my daughters elementary school councilor called CPS and they called me demanding to know why I have not put my daughter on medication 'she obviously needs.'
It obvious to me that much of the ADHD diagnosis is about control, and blaming others or stigmatizing them as 'crazy' when people don't get what they want from others.
Lately, there has been a string of conditionalism, people judge others on conditions
I know people who have been "diagnosed" with ADD, ADHD, neurotypes(i'm autistic), and Egyptians, South Africans, Japanese, Belgian, Russian, Mexican ,Peruvian, Colombian and on and on.
I speak Russian, Spanish, English obviously and several African languages, humanity is beautiful, drug companies are greedy.
I don't know if this sounds stupid or not, but can ADD "evolve" into ADHD or vice versa??? Again, might sound stupid to you... Me? I really don't know, why I asked.
this guy sort of makes a good point that adhd is seriously mistaken, because its hard to tell between adhd and people who are just different... but hes kinda redundant in the sense that... he says there is no test for adhd, no proof, but there isnt any to support his theories either...there is a serious problem with prescription of drugs to whoever seems to have it..but because its so difficult to explain or understand the adhd experience...its difficult for all the idiot doctors to know...
I think the issue is that psychiatry/psychology has been used in the past as a form of social control; sometimes this is true today (sadly). Secondly, another problem with mental health disorders is that their is not any blood test that can confirm a mental diagnosis. But, even if the DSM IV-TR didn't exist, does it mean everyone is the perfect picture of mental health? Can't the brain have disorders that affect cognitive functioning and mood regulation? The brain is most complicated structure.
i agree with the fact that adhd is really a gift in the end..there is an immense correlation between adhd kids, and right-brained function, and education systems are made for, left-brained people, people who learn things by following instructions one step at a time etc..and it becomes intensely difficult to be in school when youre a daydreamer, adhd kids are daydreamers, not by choice, but because the other option really sucks,we fail because wed rather skips steps,so teachers and peers shit on us
I WAS NEVER GIVEN ANY STIMULATS AS A CHILD or TEENAGER. I was never told why I had difficulty in school or why I would fail constantly at most things I tried. I got help from resource labs, 2 years at a special education school but that was only up till high school.
people with add shouldnt be treated different than any one else people with out add dont know how hard it is i was diagnosed with adhd in 2nd grade i lost adhd in 5th grade now i have add instead of adhd i am only a kid and i knew i had it even when noone told me my mom said if you know you have it why dont you behave the thing she doesnt know is it is hard to focus either way add the good thing is you are creativei shouldnt be on no damn meds i always thought i was a freak for having add
there shouldnt be any adhd every body has to be hyper sometime it isnt fair that kids with add or adhd get put in different classes it isnt fair the teacher picks on them it isnt fair when we are forced to take medications i have adhd i am always treated differently in my class room everybody always laughs at me when i get put out of the classroomyou know why make us suffer with the meds put a criminal on those not kids that have so much to live for people without add doesnt know how hard it is.
I agree about the drug industries enjoying the profit margins on ritalin and other drugs that they administer to the youth.
I also agree that there can be a multitude of influences that effect our youths behavior. And there must be other ways of treating the students through other types of treatment. Than answering it with a chemical.
It's about time society recognizes the agony and devastating effects of Epilepsy as much as it recognizes stroke, cancer, diabetes, etc. After all, adversity is just adversity, one way or the other. Let's raise our voice and root for ourselves as much as rooting for others who can NOT stand for themselves. IT'S ABOUT TIME TO STAND UP & CHALLENGE THE CROOKED SYSTEM.
Years ago, I faked ADD just to get the drugs. Anybody can take their stupid test and APPEAR to have ADD. One of the questions was, "Have you ever had trouble concentrating at any time in your life?". The rest weren't any better. I regret doing it, but the truth became obvious. Pump anybody full of these drugs and they'll chill out. That's what drugs do.
I *amazed* a co-worker by babysitting her "ADHD" child with *no* "acting up" (and no drugs). She said it was just "a good day" ... 54 "good days" later, she realizes that it's about patience and training, not drugs.
When my daughter was young she displayed hyperactivity. We could not put it down to anything, one day at the age of two, she said "I don't like these they make me funny" she was referring to a Rowntree product call Smarties. Rowntree have since removed all the blue Smarties from their product.
I believe pesticides, chemicals in the food chain attach to porous calcium in the body and form discs on the transmitters of the brain.
Okay... ADHD is real (if someone thought it wasn't). Some people believe that ADHD is genetic. Others think it is the parents. Sometimes it is okay to medicate them, if his or her parent says it is okay. If they are old enough to say they are okay to go on medications for ADHD, then they can do it if they want. IT IS THEIR CHOICE!
I don't doubt that some people can't concentrate better than others. I just don't think it because their brains are defective.
Einstein was bored to death in school and he made very poor grades. Had he been born in the last two decades, he would have been labeled and drugged as ADHD. His brain was definitely not defective.
can parents be the sole ones to blame? right now a woman in texas is trying to remove the right to use corporal punishment. For some it is absolutely a last resort but other do not understand the difference between discipline and punishment is why she's trying to push this legislation.
ADHD/ADD isn't real but you can't sum it all up to poor parenting. Our rights as parents are rapidly eroding. We really can't say and do too much regarding our children for the fact of some isolated cases of true child abuse. Parents in walmart can't even give a good swak on the bottom of their tantrum-ing terror-twos without some gun-ho calling cps.
I agree with you in some respects. Even in Britain or Scotland(where I live) parental rights are being erroded but i think it can be a good thing to make some parents think 2c about hitting their kids because some dont know when to stop. I have to say though that i think it IS BAD PARENTING to think that your huffy child needs meds. These parents are lazy and ignorant. If they fed their kids healthy diets, gave them plenty exercise, disciplined them consistantly they wouldnt need meds.LAZY!
But it is funny, we don't hear of kids in the bush, jungle, or rain forrest (excluding those in famine areas) as having any problem with ADHD/ADD. They are too busy exploring, participating in family customs, gathering food, hunting, and chasing predators away--at the end of the day, they are too tired to be hyperactive.
Firstly hyperactivity is only a subtype. Inattentiveness can be the only the issue. Secondly, how could you hear about it in the bush if there's no one one to diagnose it?
I've observed children that supposedly have ADHD. Seems to me that too many parents are lazy these days. There are some children who need constant boundaries and require so much attention that career minded individuals are no so inclined to get to the root of the problem. They'd rather medicate it out of them.
I am a parent of 4. I agree with you completely. So many of my friends with children are either drugging theiir children or putting them into special education classes when what their children need is a strong dose of parenting.
like the only answer would be home schooling...or different kinds of teaching. There is educational software written by adults who had ADHD. I heard it on NPR one time.
im 15 on strattera (i got taken off adderall cuz it made me angry all the time) been taking it for 4 weeks and went from 25 mgs to 40 and tomorrow i'll be on 60. at first it did nothing and now i feel tired every now and then. yesterday i fell asleep at 4:00 pm and slept (waking up a couple times) until 9:00 am. is this normal of the drug strattera to do this??
Do you Have ADHD ? BECAUSE I may have it. I am now 32 and deciding to may be get a diagnose. I find by putting my mind in focus which is hard I seem to manage. Can you explain in short your troubles you have if you even have it
There's ADHD and then there's ADD, or innatentive disorder, if you feel hyper and feel and urge to fidget or move around and talk you could have ADHD, if you daydream all the time and feel sleepy or lazy and you have absolutely no control over your thoughts it could be ADD. Medication helps, but I think you should only turn to it in extreame cases. I found exersise and proper diet with the help of some vitimen B50 complex pills works great for my ADD. Proper sleep is also very important.
Thank you, everything you are saying on this subject is correct. I'm currently preparing for a court case here in the UK to get my child off these drugs. He's changed so much, hes just not the same, hes just not as happy as he once was. Its so sad that some parents have come to this. Any more information/video links you can give me will help immensely.
PS. where is the second video to this I can't seem to find it.
to add more to my above comment, ADHD may be a very real symptom, but it is a vastly exaggerated symptom. lazy parenting is the number one cause of "ADHD" symptoms. you think its unnatural that you kid doesnt want to do homework and runs around tearing up your shit? grow some balls and dicsipline your kids, dont drug them. i was on that shit for 5 years and it turned me into a drone.
when i was in third grade everybody and their fuckin brother had ADD or ADHD. why didnt people have ADD 60 years ago? because its a bullshit symptom created by the drug companies so they can sell more ridallin to parents who are too lazy or too pussy to discipline their kids and are looking for a quick fix. i took that shit for 5 years. there are no quick fixes when it comes to shit like this, please dont medicate your kids over some bullshit marketing scam.
We drug these kids because teachers and parents cannot or will not take time to disipline them...controlling sugar, soda, diet in general, bed time, and in general the childs life. This takes consistancy and work on the parents part. Parents don't want to do it -- they pass the kids off on teachers who don't have the time to do it and bingo...the kids are put on drugs for the convienence of the parents. Mom or dad can go smoke a joint, have a beer and forget about it.
1) Kids are often given ADHD Drugs for the comfort and convenience of adults around them and not the child. i.e. dope them up so they behave and don't disrupt the class, etc.
2) How many adults do you know that exhibit that behavior? He will grow out of it with or without drugs.
ADHD is a highly heterogenous disorder, meaning symptoms and severity vary wildly. Some research has found some areas of the brain were smaller (or less developed) but then again, not in EVERY case, some kids have a co-morbid mood disorder (ie: depression) as well, yet some don'
Is the disorder a little different if a girl suffers from it?

ADHD in the intellectual sense (which necessarily impacts behavior) is merely a different way in which some people are born to acquire knowledge - that's it. I've had ADHD since childhood and finally figured out and come to understand, by the grace of the Lord, exactly what it is. It's NOT a 'disorder' - only a different way of processing/acquiring knowledge.

My brother is now an 18 year old senior and he's done just fine without any drugs.

i have adhd and dyspraxia and i have never taken medication for this in my life. i live my life like any other kid. it can be a bit difficult but i think it can easily be managed with good parenting and a good structure in the home like for homework and stuff.

Shame parents think of careers more than their children.
gangstagrannie 3 years ago
Personalities are different. Couldn't they argue that shyness is a mental illness by the same arguments? A checklist of "symptoms", but no lab tests, etc..? I think it's sad that maybe in the 10 years of taking a drug while a kid's brain is developing that drug "did the job". And so when a 20 year old tries to get off of the drug, he/she feels totally helpless without it. Perhaps it did damage but there is no way to prove it! They'd argue "well she needs the drug, see?"

its hard for me to believe that so many kids have this disease. seeing as how kids years and years ago didnt have such a problem as kids do these days, it seems to me like the problem for most kids is that thier parents arent doing thier jobs. and it doesnt help with all these doctors trying to prescribe pills. the first day i went to theropy for depression, my theropist asked me is my phsyciatrist could give me some medication, which was zoloft. the FIRST day. how terrible is that?
CalfCreek4x12x08 3 years ago 3
this is just a question, I'm not taking any stance because I really don't know enough, but I have heard that people who take ritalin who DO NOT have "add" or"adhd" become hyperactive from it, whereas those who have "add" or "adhd" apparently calm down when taking ritalin.
I was wondering if this was true, and why.
thank you for this video, it is very interesting :)
gigja88 3 years ago 12
That's not true. It simply depends on the dosage.

Additionally, they are common drugs of abuse in both high school and college students who do not have ADHD but who take them to stay up all night studying or to help improve their concentration and sometimes cheerleaders even take them to help w/ weight loss.

gangstagrannie 3 years ago 3
I can tell you from experience, it goes either way. I was diagnosed with ADHD, and those drugs ruined a good portion of my childhood. They would make me withdrawn, jittery and on the verge of panic attacks. Friend of mine who didn't have ADD but was diagnosed had the same issues, to the lesser extent.
RedCynic92 3 years ago
I had heard that, theoretically, watching excessive hours of television contributes, or causes ADHD. Since you are exposed to rapid image changes, such as having to readjust to every commercial and scene, visually and audibly, in small small blocks of time. Is there truth to this?
mikelunz 3 years ago
Are the brain scans fake? The books I've read have shown pictures of brain imaging where an ADHD mind has significantly less activity in the frontal cortex than "normal" children. I'm not being condescending, seriously are these brain scans still assumptions and is there not enough evidence to prove they have any bearing?
Jleigh225 3 years ago
brain scans are only used for research purposes and never for diagnosis. They have never found reliable biological markers with them. There are several reasons for this.
1) People in these studies are already diagnosed. They therefore have been on medication or are on medication when the study occurs. It is therefor difficult to determine if any noted differences are do to the medication or the "disorder".
psychetruth 3 years ago
2) Not everyone in the study group will show anomalies and some of the people in the control group will show the same anomalies as the study groups.
So, some of the people with the ADHD diagnosis will show less activity in the frontal cortex but some of he people with the ADHD diagnosis will show normal or even elevated levels of activity in the frontal cortex.
And
Some of the people in the control groups (without ADHD) will show lower activity even though they don't have ADHD.
psychetruth 3 years ago

MolossianZagori 3 years ago 10
But what about the impact and disruption a child with ADHD has on the rest of the class at school? I take your point, but the needs of the majority should be considered. Every child matters, including the one without ADHD.

A generation of stupid people call any child who threatens their stupid heirarchy as "ADHD, Aspergers" etc. Ironically, those who need to categorize evolved children and drug them out of true feelings, chemically forcing common-man (reduced) IQ levels upon them with CRYSTAL METH are the ones with the real and apparent "psychopathologies".

RAGDOLL2329 3 years ago 4
My advice to those teaching these children is small group or one to one teaching. Also at least one hour per school day spent out doors in some structured activity, not high impact sport but rather a calming pastime like gardening or handling animals. Most of these children get into trouble with teaching staff and wind up with low self esteem and often put themselves down. PRAISE PRAISE PRAISE. Lastly, do not make the mistake of thinking meds are the answer. take the time instead.

do you guys really think this is a huge government conspiracy to keep people spending money on medication?
dont get me wrong, im always open to conspiracy theories, and theres some i believe in. but come on. they do not have secret meetings in the cia where they come up with new disorders to get people to buy more medication.
add/adhd symptoms are universal in human behavoir, but the varying degree of the symptoms is what classifies it as a disorder.
its real.
BigLeroy909 3 years ago

The fact that brain scans show different activity in people diagnosed with ADHD proves absolutely nothing. OF COURSE the brain activity of someone who's focusing on a meaningless task is going to differ from someone who isn't focusing on it. Brain scans have never shown causal proof that any mental problem is a physical disease, except to people who lack a basic grasp of logic.
sdp026 3 years ago 2
It's amazing that supposed 'scientists' can't even understand that correlation =/= causation...

This is all teachers trying to
1.) obtain money
2.) achieve control in the classroom

Me? I really don't know, why I asked.
sRowTL985 3 years ago
The term ADD is no longer used in psychiatry. It's all ADHD. There are three official diagnoses.
ADHD, Predominantly Inattentive Type
ADHD, Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Type
ADHD, Combined Type (Both inattentive & Hyperactive).
The Term ADD was taken out of the last Mental Health disorder book and replaced with the above three.
psychetruth 3 years ago
this guy sort of makes a good point that adhd is seriously mistaken, because its hard to tell between adhd and people who are just different... but hes kinda redundant in the sense that... he says there is no test for adhd, no proof, but there isnt any to support his theories either...there is a serious problem with prescription of drugs to whoever seems to have it..but because its so difficult to explain or understand the adhd experience...its difficult for all the idiot doctors to know...
jim0watkins 3 years ago

IT IS THEIR CHOICE!
dancerofthenight 4 years ago
I don't doubt that some people can't concentrate better than others. I just don't think it because their brains are defective.
Einstein was bored to death in school and he made very poor grades. Had he been born in the last two decades, he would have been labeled and drugged as ADHD. His brain was definitely not defective.

ADHD/ADD is NOT real. It is new-speak for poor parenting.
rctube1958 4 years ago
I agree with you on that, It's an easy way for some parents to shun their responsibilities and have an exuse to do so.

can parents be the sole ones to blame? right now a woman in texas is trying to remove the right to use corporal punishment. For some it is absolutely a last resort but other do not understand the difference between discipline and punishment is why she's trying to push this legislation.
jdc8000 4 years ago
ADHD/ADD isn't real but you can't sum it all up to poor parenting. Our rights as parents are rapidly eroding. We really can't say and do too much regarding our children for the fact of some isolated cases of true child abuse. Parents in walmart can't even give a good swak on the bottom of their tantrum-ing terror-twos without some gun-ho calling cps.
jdc8000 4 years ago

They are too busy exploring, participating in family customs, gathering food, hunting, and chasing predators away--at the end of the day, they are too tired to be hyperactive.
jdc8000 4 years ago
Firstly hyperactivity is only a subtype. Inattentiveness can be the only the issue. Secondly, how could you hear about it in the bush if there's no one one to diagnose it?
slorky90 3 years ago 2
I've observed children that supposedly have ADHD. Seems to me that too many parents are lazy these days. There are some children who need constant boundaries and require so much attention that career minded individuals are no so inclined to get to the root of the problem. They'd rather medicate it out of them.
luvu4ia 4 years ago
I am a parent of 4. I agree with you completely. So many of my friends with children are either drugging theiir children or putting them into special education classes when what their children need is a strong dose of parenting.

I see people saying that they can't follow
what the teacher is saying in school. Seems
like the only answer would be home schooling...or different kinds of teaching. There is educational software written by adults who had ADHD. I heard it on NPR one time.

The program was about dyslexia and the
software was written by and for dyslexics

Do you Have ADHD ? BECAUSE I may have it. I am now 32 and deciding to may be get a diagnose. I find by putting my mind in focus which is hard I seem to manage. Can you explain in short your troubles you have if you even have it
ginsengchris 4 years ago

Once again thank you so much!

to add more to my above comment, ADHD may be a very real symptom, but it is a vastly exaggerated symptom. lazy parenting is the number one cause of "ADHD" symptoms. you think its unnatural that you kid doesnt want to do homework and runs around tearing up your shit? grow some balls and dicsipline your kids, dont drug them. i was on that shit for 5 years and it turned me into a drone.
wtfizthis 4 years ago 4
when i was in third grade everybody and their fuckin brother had ADD or ADHD. why didnt people have ADD 60 years ago? because its a bullshit symptom created by the drug companies so they can sell more ridallin to parents who are too lazy or too pussy to discipline their kids and are looking for a quick fix. i took that shit for 5 years. there are no quick fixes when it comes to shit like this, please dont medicate your kids over some bullshit marketing scam.
wtfizthis 4 years ago 2
We drug these kids because teachers and parents cannot or will not take time to disipline them...controlling sugar, soda, diet in general, bed time, and in general the childs life. This takes consistancy and work on the parents part. Parents don't want to do it -- they pass the kids off on teachers who don't have the time to do it and bingo...the kids are put on drugs for the convienence of the parents. Mom or dad can go smoke a joint, have a beer and forget about it.

ADHD is mainly caused by vaccines and also television viewing. Diet can exacerbate it.
dgontar 4 years ago
That may be so but that brings up two points.
1) Kids are often given ADHD Drugs for the comfort and convenience of adults around them and not the child. i.e. dope them up so they behave and don't disrupt the class, etc.
2) How many adults do you know that exhibit that behavior? He will grow out of it with or without drugs.
psychetruth 4 years ago
ADHD is a highly heterogenous disorder, meaning symptoms and severity vary wildly. Some research has found some areas of the brain were smaller (or less developed) but then again, not in EVERY case, some kids have a co-morbid mood disorder (ie: depression) as well, yet some don'
