  • I just bout one on ebay. I must be doing something wrong cause I can't get much of anything! I live in Oakland, CA. I'm trying to follow the directions...Do you really have to keep the AM button down why you're scanning for shortwave? I'm not even sure I entered the time right for my area.... I haven't given up yet. Anyone know of a support group for this radio? THe one offered by Sony has nothing.

  • 这是在用普通话讲圣经呢。

  • That ones still made in Japan too...what a rarity nowadays

  • the best sony ever build - i love it too ...

  • Hello,

I have one of these great radios, but I'm new using it. Please let me know if I'm using it correctly!

I am interested in listening to French, so I'll input 3285 (FR3 Cayenne, French Guiana).

I make sure it's in AM mode, then press 'Direct", then '3285' then EXE. I always get static!

Am I doing it right? Or is it the radio? Thanks a lot.

  • Hi I am using this radio too.

I live in Tokyo Japan and listen to mainly SW Japanese service of asia pac countries (like China, Korea Vietnam) .

I would like to initiate AM DX but I don't have good antenna for MW. Do you have any idea?

  • I wish i had this radio! I do own Sony's Electronics products,Headphones,Boombox, walman and shoebox style cassette recorder, but not the 7600GR.I hope the price drops on thse. Thanks,Brainy

  • I came close to buying an ICF 2001 when it first went on sale, back in the 80's but did not have money to do so and opted for the analog portables until july 6,1984 when i got a uniden CR 2021 radio. Thanks, brainy

  • Wonder if Sony is ever going to have a radio which covers the digital radio spectrum as some of the larger shortwave stations will in time are going to be going to this format.

  • Anybody have a problem with the volume control - it won't scale down but is always semi-loud to super loud. I'm surprised they just don't get Grundig to relable their Satellit 800 to say Sony 800. Probably be a whole lot cheaper in the long run.

  • I had the same problem when I first got the 7600- I just sprayed a tiny bit of tuner cleaner into the control and it's been fine for the last five or six years.

  • I shot some in the tuner wheel and it just didn't get any better. This is my second Sony and I probably should just get a Grundig....as they sell them at Radio Shack.

  • Great radio... Please see my collection...

    ...Old radios from tag sales......

  • The best !!!!!

  • I just picked one up on E-Bay---haven't received it yet. It looks virtually un-used. Seller claims he sailed in the Bahamas last year and used it for a few months. I probably saved about 30%-40% by buying used----hopefully it is in good working condition. I've heard so many good things about this model. I also heard that Sony is leaving the shortwave radio business. What a pity---they have maade so many great ones in the last 50 years!

  • nice radio

  • how do you change the am step from 10 to 9 step. i lost the nmanual.

  • it would be cool if this radio looked as good as it sounds,

    kind of boring looking.

  • The 7600 GR is probably the best portable of its size still widely available -- you can pick it up new for about $140 from reputable Ebay sellers.

Using a 7600 GR on the beach in Florida last year, I picked up Radio Rwanda on 6.055 and Radio Ethiopia on 7.110. The excellent SYNC detector on the radio works wonders, and you can fine tune SSB signals, with considerable stability, using the thumbwheel adjustment.

Right now, it's pretty much the 7600 GR or the ATS 909 Sangean....

  • How does this excellent sony compared to the chinese made Degen 1103 which is also an exceptional radio?

  • Nice looking little unit. Does it have SSB? Not that its a necessity.

  • Thanks.. Yes, it has lower and upper SSB with fine tuning.

  • This is about the best radio you're going to get in the price range. It works better than many of them that are more expensive.

  • that is so rad!!! i'm trying to figure out which one to get, or if i should get one at all.. but this is a good endorsement.

  • i love this radio..I too have this!!Shortwave radio listening is addicting!!Lots of fun!!!
