Que tenga mucho exito Señor Alvarez

  • Him...Hvorostovsky are the ONLY baritones that i can find that at least TOUCH the genuis of Bizet!!!

  • Bravoooo!!

    Gracias

  • well sung.... but home boy looks like he's try'n not to poop pants the whole time

  • Beautiful!******** LONA :)

  • bravo Carlos =)

    my favourite... ;)

    salut, Jutta =)

  • bravooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • Good overall. I like Alvarez's dark, thrusting timbre, which used to the standard for true dramatic baritones. But I worry about his vibrato tendency to widen on some (not all) of his high notes. That suggests an imbalance in his technique between chest and head registers, a tendency to sing too heavily too high, or both. I hope and pray that Alvarez will resolve this. His talent is HUGE, and God knows we NEED some TRULY dramatic baritones:) --

  • Great voice, although his pronunciation could be better (jusques, gens...). And that high note is sometimes a little unsure, but any baritone knows the difficulty of singing that note perfectly. Of course, great baritones should do it right.....Most of the time he does.

  • good, good, good. but i bloody hate the orchestra. sorry.

  • I hate the orchestra in this version..... And his singing is certainly not the best you can find on youtube.... Nevertheless, quite good.

  • That final note was STUPENDA!!!!

    beautiful singing Carlos Alvarez..

    Elegance, Voice, style,Charisma

    all combined.

  • Very full and powerful voice, but at the same time I can understand each syllable 8D Bravo!

    Saludos

  • He should be the highest paid baritone in the entire world. There's no one singing today that comes close.

  • This is genius.

  • Brilliant! An invigorating voice and a dedicated actor!!

  • Great technique !! Bravo!!!!

  • I love Carmen for its brilliant story held together by perfect music and lyrics. The dissection of vocal technique is what gives opera a bad name. This was the pop music of its day. Bizet was never stuffy about it so why 134 years later is it ok.

  • Would you care to provide some analysis into what "the problem" is?

  • No problem in his high notes. Beautiful!

  • I didn't know him. He's great!!

  • Now that is a real Dramatic Baritone. Metallic, dark and thick with a great squillo. The perfect voice for my taste as Escamillo. But then I can't stand a lyric doing this role and a bass-baritone is too heavy as much as I like the role myself.

    Bravo Carlos

  • Supremo!!!

  • Bravo toro!!!

  • saw Carlos as Rigoletto in the spring and he was excellent....very commanding voice & presence! Cheers!!!

  • Magnificent performance, from a magnificent Baritone. Such a strong, commanding, edgey voice. In my opinion the archetypical Verdi-baritone voice without trying to be to stereotypical.

He possesses copious amounts of squillo, cut, ring etc. (whatever you want to call it), cutting through the orchestra with ease.

  • But Carlos Alvarez can hurt any microphone with his magnificent voice

  • What does that mean? LOL

  • No one seems to be able to hear the electronic enhancement that give the squillo a very metallic edge to it. As well as the triangle.

  • His voice: perfect. His execution... just near true perfection. Magnifico. Mi piacerebbe un giorno vederlo a Verona, all'Arena!

  • Alvarez is great.Dimitri H.Isn't convincing in this aria,he sound too"russian" for a toreador,it seems funny,not to say ridiculous.

  • BRAVO, Carlos. The best baritone today!!!

  • how can anzone even compare this great artist with barking Hvorotovsky...!

  • Love his smile at the very end. This man just rocks.

  • His singing is more like an artform. I wish more people sang like that today.

  • great baritone bravo

Carlos Alvarez is one of the most important Baritons of world, he is really incredible singer and elegant on stage, he is great! thank you Carlos you are the best!

  • This is how a baritone is supposed to sound! Just heard him live last night and this is no microphone wonder voice. Loud with squillo to burn!

  • Wow, he is amazing, I didn't think there were people like him left in the world.

  • What a voice! Gorgeous, beautiful!

  • fantastic! where is this singer from??

  • Malaga, Spain

  • Is that you, Erika???

    Stalking again?

  • maestroooo,bravo bravisimo.che bella voce e belcanto

  • The Perfection is HERE!!!!! It was a big pleasure to work with you in Málaga. Listening you, I did a real Masterclass!!!!

  • A complete bad ass! Awesome!

  • absolutely amazing

  • Carlos, for me, is the greatest baritone ever! There has never been a dark voiced male singer who thrilled me as he does! Not even Samuel Ramey used to do it. I got very very pleased whenever I listen to Carlos Álvarez singing!

  • It's hard to tell, but it sounds like the voice is getting larger. It has such a beautiful tone.

  • For a low bari he can hit those f's really well. I can't imagine having the right voice to sing Largo Factotum though...it doesn't seem lyric enough. What an amazing instrument he has.

  • I think he started as a higher baritone. I thought he sang Figaro for NY City Opera - correct me if I'm wrong?

  • Magnificent voice! I would call him the successor to Samuel Ramey as the greatest baritone-bass in the world today.

  • He is a verdi baritone, that is what gives him that dark tamber. So if anything, he is the best Verdi Baritone, by far, in opera today.

  • Love him. Just love the voice. Look at the smile at the end of the aria.

  • This is superb singing. I suspect he is more bass-baritone, but it would not surprise me if he started singing di Luna. If he could do that would shortly be at the Met.

  • He's done Luna at the Met.

  • exceleeenteeeeeeeee!!!! bravisimo

  • my new favourite living baritone. not that i really had one before

  • ¡Bravo Carlos!

    Una paisana, con afecto.

  • There was a time when I was the only one who knew about Alvarez. I used to tell people that the greatest living drammatic baritone was Carlos Alvarez. To which they would always respond, "Who?". I would tell them about Domingo's protogee who could only be heard filling in the duets on a basso recital album. Alas the word is out. Everyone now knows. A voice for the ages.

  • magnificent voice!

  • What a great voice!!!

  • el mejor baritono del momento, sin duda

  • whoa...this guy's got a great voice! what a performance!
