Some cars sound quiet...some smooth...others rumble...then there is always the ones that growl and roar. This one says one thing, plain and simple...FUCK YOU, MOVE!
Looks mean nothing in racing. They built the bodies of the Daytona cars to be as aerodynamicly efficient as possible, while staying within the rules of the racing league.
if it wins, it is beautiful, but otherwise couldn't be farther from the reality. performance comes always first, but you're naive if you think looks does not matter. it matters, for the viewer and for the manufacturer image wise.
Well of course looks matter to a certain extent. If you're going to a race to see how pretty the cars are, you're going for the wrong reason. All race cars should look clean and neat to represent the manufacturer and sponsers in a positive manor, but the car looks great as it is.
The DP's might not look as nice, but grand am has developed a formula where the cars arent as aero dependent as the ALMS cars so the racing is closer, and the race isnt just cars running around in a line
The 2003-2005 Multimatic MDP1 was quite awesome-looking despite being a DP - it looked like someone squished down the Bentley Speed 8.
Current DPs all sound great but look like crap. The Crawford DP is making an effort to look nice but falls short. Its rather annoying that the ugliest DP chassis, the Riley, is the dominant one.
I'm of the opinion that the look of the car should be the last consideration when it comes to racing, but that doesn't mean I don't have a sense of aesthetics. :P
true, but all you have todo is look at le mans prototypes, there some of the most beutiful looking cars out there. all due to aerodynamicists wanting to get the least drag etc, thus the le mans cars look like spaceships, lol. im afraid im not a fan whatsoever of american racing series, mainly due to the archaic designs/styles. for one i cannot wait to work on le mans cars. and i see that the alms is taking off massively in the US. do you know what the power output off these squished bentleys is??
Most Daytona Prototype engines produce about 500 horsepower.
And yes, Le Mans Prototypes are some of the best looking cars on Earth. However, the new Swift 017.n/FN09 being deployed in the Formula Nippon championship next year is the coolest racecar on Earth, bar none. Well, so long as the Japanese teams don't put horrible paintjobs on them, it will be. (trust me, if you look up the car you'll see one of the most horrible paintjobs ever on one. Sunflowers do not belong on racecars)
these are some of the greatest and most technologicly advanced vehicles in the world they have amazing acceleration and they are extremely fun to watch!
i am fortunate enough to live a few minutes from daytona so i get to watch them in the second biggest endurance race in the world after lemans!
Most technologically advanced? They are cool, but check out an ALMS lmp car. They are much more advanced and their acceleration, braking and handling are far superior.
actually sebring is ALMS, we run 14 races with the 24 hours of daytona being the biggie, a 9 hour race at miller, 6 hours at the glen, and 11 other 2.5-3 hour sprint races
You are absolutely right. My bad. I guess I was thinking about Daytona and mixed the series. Thanx.
P.s.: I am an amateur racing driver from Brazil. As you wrote "we run" I am led to believe that you take part in the races; if so, send me a private msg and I will start following your performances. Wish you all the best.
Me too... if you have the time (and feel like) check the kind of car I race with here in Brazil, check "interlagos hot lap gol" and you will see a vid I made for a friend of mine... he is driving a 1.6 litter front wheel drive VW Gol in Interlagos.. :]
Let me tell you... I had a dream since I was a kid: to take part in a race at some point of my life. I was 36 years old when I first locked the safety belt and started a racing engine (the first car I ever raced was a VW Beetle). Now I am 45, I still love racing, I do it for pleasure and only when I have $ome left. Life is not easy, but whenever I go to a race track, I forget about day-to-day problems and enjoy myself watching a race. And by the way, I wish I lived near Daytona...
Well, any time you feel like visiting Brasil I will take you to Interlagos and see to it that you ride one of our cars.. I have a timeshare in Orlando, and maybe next year, while on vacation, I will try my hand at one of those cars from the Petty Experience. I know it is realy not real racing, but just for the fun. Anyway, Promise made.
thanks man, but i am only 16 so if that promise can last a few more years maybe i can go to brasil but for now ive got to concentrate on getting to college and getting my job as a shoe designer but when all that comes together i will definetly come down there!
Don't worry. I am old enough to be your father, but racing is a passion. The promise stands... finish your studies, get a good job, and one day, if you decide to visit my country I will see to it that (at least) you get to know Interlagos and go for a spin on the track. I hope to live another 30 years, so I do have some time... good luck in your studies.
haha thanks i would love to come down there, i have got the grades to go to a great college and who knows maybe the basketball skills but i really have a passion for art and basketball so i feel like design is the best field for me
Well, my pocket is not deep enough to make a car, but if you feel like designing a paint scheme, who knows... this weekend a friend of mine, who is also young enough to be my son, will have his debut on a race. I'll send a link to you so that you can have the real picture of our hobbie.
He was letting out his anger after the dude wouldn't let him leave. lol
