He tries do hard to hold onto Julie by not singing, and she just wants him to be happy. Sometimes, you can love someone with all your heart and not be a suitable match.

I have now uploaded Jolson Sings Again, if you wish to watch it go to my channel, sorry it has taken so long, its really hard to come across old movies like this, but i finally found it. Watch it while its still on youtube, they might remove it before long. Thanks for all the comments, much appreciated.
I love this movie; can't tell you how many times I watched it as a kid, and how much I love Jolie's voice. He was unique. Larry Parks was brilliant in the role. I watched the movie so many times, I memorized all the songs. An old girl friend was William Demarest's neighbor.
watch as at 7:55 the girl in front becomes aware that the camera is on her and flashes a big cheesy smile for it.....its as if a director is off to the side saying " Why isn't this one smiling?"
Before Dvds and dvrs we had Million Dollar Movie. it was your only chance to see a movie multiple times.......Thank you for making the Jolson Story available.
WOW, I, back in 2001 heard a song my aunt was playing called mammy.. I picked the song up really fast and loved the voice f Al Joelson.. Anyways I have snagged a few of his albums and love them... Anyways I'm 34 and anytime someone asks me who my favorite artists are I always tell them Al joelson is one of my top three!!
mrs Miller and Tiny Tim are my other two. Anyways is there a part two to this movie?
@warror135 That would be great if you could do that. I've not had a chance to see that since my final VCR gave out on me. It would be very much appreciated. Also, for those who have yet to see it, of course!
lost count how many times i have seen this movie , my dad sang all the songs in the clubs , many years ago . sadly my dad not here anymore , but i cant still hear him through jolson . carol .
i spoke with a man years back who had actually seen Al perform, he told me Jolson was a magnet and instantly drew his audience in. That's a tribute i thought- yes- Pauly- Port Dover- Canada
I was 3 years old when the film was made and remember my parents taking me to see it when I was still a wee boy and even now at the age of 67 the voice still brings tears to my eyes. My wife and daughter think I'm daft but the man was a real super star.
Watching Al Jolson, my favourite all time singer, brings tears to my eyes. It's so hard to believe that he's been dead for 60 years. Thank you for these memories.
As always, sorry to see this movie end, but nice to know that I can come back anytime to watch, thanks to Warrior. And I mean that sincerely, thank you Warrior for taking the time to upload this movie. Some wonderful family memories attached to it,
@teddybo06 There is also the sequel to this film "Jolson Sings Again", w/Parks however, the songs are all Al Jolson. It's Larry Parks lip-syncing to them.
Parks might have had quite a career had he not been black-listed as a communist.
I like how the papa was looking at the al wife while he was performing and i wondered if that is what he had planned when he asked al to sing for him, and agree to go to the night club.
yes but here we are refering to the movie that is a fictional account of the al jolson life.
so in the movie here it always seemed to me that soonn when he first looked at his daughter in law at the club, it was to say this is what he, al jolson needs to her.
then again you say he would not be in the nightclub so perhaps that emphasies even more that he planned some version of this in hope of cheering up his son.
Thanks for taking the time to post this. An amazing picture, albeit somewhat fictionalized. Regardless, Jolson really was the greatest entertainer ever.
Personally, I thought this was the best version of April Showers I've heard Al sing. There's just...something about it.

With that song she walks into his life, and with it, she walks out.

@warror135 I wonder if anyone realized that this is not the end of the movie. There is still almost half of the movie left after "the end" comes up.

@bronsondaggers -I think not. In real life, his father was an orthodox Jewish cantor and would not be in a nightclub.

the movie does not do justice to the amazing stage presence he had to go along with that one-in-a-million set of pipes.
