  • My horse's grandfather

  • In October of '89 we said goodbye to a champion.....and the Angels welcome home a friend. "Weep not for me, for I return to the place of my fathers" (from one of my poems).

  • We all love Big Red. Love Him And Miss Him. From Rita Moreno. San Benito Tx.

  • I love you

  • His heart was actually 21-22 lbs, and Sham's heart was around 18 lbs. Secretariats heart was twice as big as an average horses.

  • Brividi!!!!

  • Man O'War had a 29' stride, AND sired a triple crown winner, War Admiral. Yes, Secretariat was a great race horse, but the true sign of greatness after your racing days are over, is the ability to pass that greatness on, which unfortunately, Secretariat never did. Yet, that does not diminish his racing accomplishments, and the thrill of watching history in the making,at the 1973 Belmont Stakes.

  • @kjjmac So I guess Albert Einstein, Mark Spitz, etc. weren't that great because if your seed isn't good, then whatever you do doing your lifetime is irrelevant! I doubt Michael Jackson's kids will ever duplicate their father's legend as the greatest entertainer of all time. And BTW, MOW was a MUCH better race horse than War Admiral. War Admiral wasn't even that great. Just born in the right era. Based on your comment, Northern Dancer must be better than MOW since he produced the most "winners".

  • @kjjmac .......well gone west may not have been a triple crown winner... but you cannot sneeze about secretariats genes being passed onto this champion. there are numerous secretariat line horses that have far surpassed expectations... so don't count the secretariat gene pool out just yet.

  • am i the only one that noticed he did a lead change in the first racing clip???

  • @Luneytoon121 racehorses are trained to change leads on the turns so the leg doesn't get tired

  • Thanks for posting! He's just breathtaking with such a beautiful conformation....as close to perfect as you can get. I had a horse when I was in my 20's that my Dad bought for me. He was a year-old when I got him. He was red like "Secretariat", an American saddlebred gelding. At 17 hands high he was beautiful as well and loved to run and be ridden. He never ran from me when I brought the bridal to the fence!

  • Oh but anyways still BIG!!!

  • This is crazy!! Heart weighs 14-16 pounds!!

  • @rcossman no.... this video has it wrong... his heart weighed between 21-22 pounds.

  • @rcossman .... no his heart was near 22lbs at autopsy....sham's heart was around19lbs.

  • @Letswinjeff1 Poor Sham... any other year..

  • my horses grandfather is secretariat!

  • There will NEVER be another horse like Secretariat. I still get goose bumps just like I did in 1973, whenever I see photos or videos of Secretariat. I can;t wait to see the Disney movie, Secretariat, next week. Keep the BIG RED Flame Burning :) FOREVER

  • Are you able to upload the whole thing?

  • Simply Phenomenal. The damn horse KNEW how awesome he was as much as anyone!!

  • Maybe the best of all time? Think there is no question about that. He is and will remain the best of all time. What a horse!

  • I know they got the heart weight wrong, it was actually much larger. But a 25 ft.stride? Is that for real? Is that even possible? That seems so far out there? Any answers, anybody?

  • Never saw one better, and don't expect to ever see one better in my lifetime.

  • Thank you ! I've wondered where that gorgeous clip at 2:23 came fm with Secretariat leaping and bowing his massive body at top of knoll in his paddock.

  • Thanks alot, I followed your directions an it went right to it. I'm going to mark this as a favorite.

  • Good, isn't that clip of him beautiful?! Also love to watch groom lead him out to paddock, magnificent to watch.

  • @bon1042 I meant to say .... at 2:06 for that unbelievable ballet arc with his huge bulk.... sheer poetry.... how I love him and wish we'd had him around longer. If anyone is interested there is a great article on the movie in Baltimore Sun.... just google secretariat preakness has pivotal role..... thought I wld be disappointed fm what I've seen of movie on YT. But this article shows there will be at least one heart stopping moment. Don't think YT lets you send outside material in e-mails.

  • @bon1042 Thanks for noting this article. I'm from Baltimore and have been to Preakness several times, it was a thrill to watch Secretariat's race at Pimlico in the film. The view of the crowd there at Preakness is legendary. I really enjoyed reading why the director used this view of the race from the Tweedy household. Thanks for sharing it.

  • @MitziAA you're welcome... except that was before I saw the movie, although I knew I wouldn't like fm everything I read about it. I just didn't like it at all, tho I was glad that they brought in the issue of the quarter to half dollar sized puss oozing blue abscess that was found the morning of the Wood Memorial. As Penny is quoted... "no, Secretariat and I had no spiritual connection, just a mutual respect. He didn't stand still long enough for me to look in his eye and say a prayer.
