  • wow. harmonies and dynamics are flawless.

  • This is one of the best recordings I've found of this song so far on youtube!

  • I remember singing this song when I was in high school at the LDS Tabernacle. The words touched my heart instantly. As adults we hurt those who matter most and not even know it, our children. Bless the all children of the world.

  • i cry every time i hear tis so sad:(

  • The men's choir at my high school sang this a few nights ago at our concert. My friend went up and told us its story. Apparently a kid was so badly injured during the ongoing civil war in Yugoslavia that he got rushed to a hospital in Florida for a face transplant, only to go back and die not a year later. This slideshow was played in the background while they sang. Some parents stupidly said it wasn't suitable for child viewing. The children in it were real. It's not suitable for child living.

  • my choir teacher new one of the people who wrote this song and she told us why he wrote so she had my choir sing it and it was absolutely gorgeoues and we recorded it and have it in a safe file so we dont lose it it still makes me cry when i hear it

  • Excellent! Well done!

  • I am in tears. Heal the world.make it a better place. for you and for me and entire human race.

  • This is probably the most beatiful and most touching choral piece I have ever heard. I've heard a lot that have moved me to tears, but this tops all. It's fueled by such a powerful message. :')

  • Three Heartless people have watched this video

  • i heard this a few says ago in choir and we are preforming it this is a powerful song it made me cry and it still does and its music by itself is so fun and amazing to hear this is the greatest song ive heard in a while

  • I sang in this recording :) These were good times with the BUMC!

  • I fell in love with this song when I was in the Delphian Chorale at my high school. I still tear up every time I hear or sing it.

  • goosebumps :o

  • What type of heartless, soulless person can't help but be touched by this song?

  • This video reminds me of Michael Jackson's videos for Heal The World and also Man In The Mirror. This and MJ's videos make us stop and think about what we do. Christ Jesus help us. ='(

  • Is there a love button?

  • colombine picture is pretty deep in relation to where the song is at the time.

  • Just so we're clear, I only pressed the dislike button because this made me cry

  • I picture this song also being used for 9/11. Bless those people that died.

  • Beautiful

  • I am a 20 year old guy in college. We're learning this song in our choir group. I nearly weep everytime I hear/practice it. So moving. So sad.

  • @RJpsyco009

i did this my senior year of high school and i did the same thing

  • the image at 2:26 gave me chills..... beautiful song.

  • i cried

  • This performance is breathtaking. i've had the privilege of hosting some of these children that this song mentions (Children of the World) in our home and we were so blessed by their performances to raise funds for all of the children of the world who live in poverty and in wartorn areas. Their dancing, singing, laughter brings HOPE for all who believe in a God. Through the eyes of a child, let us learn to love one another.

  • This song is amazing! I really hope it helps us as a people think twice before we claim that our wars are justified.

  • I remember singing this in my church high school choir. We never could stop crying.

  • 2 people couldn't here or something

  • The ironic thing about this song is that most of the children in these videos have never heard of jesus. You, the Americans, who are currently at the top of the world, you who have the most control, have steered it towards this fate. Yet you love this song.

  • @ZMan9854 Excuse me, but it is not just the Americans. It's the whole world in general who have done that. And there's nothing wrong with loving the song just so you know.

  • @ZMan9854 It sure is easy to blame the guys at the top. The United States isn't the only country in the world you can pick on; perhaps the abuses in China, Russia, the nations in Africa; those would be good places to start helping instead of pointing fingers.

  • @ZMan9854 This song was written by Kurt Bestor whilst serving as a missionary in Eastern Europe, about what he saw there. Many choirs that perform this are religious, and those that aren't can appreciate beautiful music and the message of the piece in any event.

  • @ZMan9854 This song was written by American composer Kurt Bestor whilst he was serving as a Mormon missionary in Eastern Europe. The piece was written about what he experienced there (involving the after-effects of Yugoslavian conflicts). Many of the choirs that sing this are religious, and those that aren't can still appreciate the beautiful message of the piece.

  • @ZMan9854 You can not control what people believe. People make their own choices. Even if a country forces a certain religion the people make a choice in either believing or just following the practices without real faith. I don't see how Americans are steering people away from their faith. People will always believe what they want to believe. I don't understand where this comment is coming from.

  • I mean where your comment is coming from.

  • Im 15 years old and everytimes i hear this song...i cry.Its not my fault it is such a beautiful song :P

  • @xXMrMetallicaXx it's ok to cry if you find this song beautiful. This song also makes me cry because it's beautiful and it makes me visualize the "I have a dream" speech spoken from Martin Luther KIng Jr. cause that was a captavating moment.

  • @JDWolfman12271 Yup its so true :)

  • sic em men's choir!! this is just amazing!!!

  • I like This Short Clip

  • my chior did this amazing peice, it is so hard to not cry, or feel any sempethy when you here this song. it really showed me that i and we all have it so much better than we sometimes realize. my class saw this for our benefit consert and had to do it.

  • It's hard to sing such a heart-felt prayer through tears, but that's what happens every time we sing it.

I've only ever sung it in an SATB version. Believe me, mothers' and grandmothers' voices are never out of place in a prayer for peace.

  • The high school choir I'm in is singing this song and we are going to have a projection of this slide show going at the same time. We all sang it while watching the slide show today and a few of the kids started to cry it was so emotional. Any song that can get high school MALES tearing up is a great song in my book

  • I know people say they get chills from music alot, but until now I've never actually gotten them. So beautiful.

  • Two people have no heart to feel the power of this song. This song moves through me with such love and heartache.GodBless JJ

  • What sicko would dislike this?!! This is an amazing video, amazing song .. and it is totally thought-provoking. This makes me want to DO something to help, and that's exactly what it should do. Thank you so much for posting this.

  • The senior boys choir in my school (diocesan boys school in Hong Kong) sang this during our Easter Service today, and it was so... touching, i guess thats the right word for it.

  • Two people hit the wrong button by accident. At least, that's what I hope.

  • @nostalgiakid100 oviously. Why the hell would you like this?

  • two people dont know wat good mucic is sadly.

  • 2 people dont know what good music is!!!

  • A small girls choir sung this at my school yesterday. Several people in the crowd were crying and there was a silence once it ended because everyone was too scared to break that silence... then huge applause. Such a beautiful song. I think both men and women can pull it off if they put the emotion into it - it's a meaningful song.

  • I could not make it a third of the way through this video before I lost it.

  • this is the song where everyone shuts up to hear it.

  • This song always strikes a weak part of my heart since the last time I heard it live it was done by four of my friends in an all men quartet and one of them killed himself a year ago.

  • Those pictures made my heart ache so much. I wanted to gather up every single one of those children into my arms and take them home with me!

  • This is the most moving choir song ever written. Hands down

  • We are singing this for our choir (male chorus). It is very... special to be hear and be part of this song. If we were this good I would probably cry every time I sang it.

  • Why do they have children writing on rockets as part of the slideshow? It is sad they are taking part in a culture of violence! I guess that could be why it is included though

  • I would like to kill the fucking assholes who disliked this the both of em

  • @GiraffePhysco

i dont think thats what happened....we just sung this in an honors chorus and our director read the composers story. The guy was just someone who had lived in Yugoslavia before the civil war and then was back in the U.S. when war broke out. He was frustrated and felt hopeless watching it all on the news and out of that hopelessness came this beautiful song

  • @kasula17 Yeah, the orphanage story is in fact false, thank goodness.

  • @kasula17 He ment his instructor went when he was touring Europe with his college choir some point between 1996 and now

  • WAR, WEAPON AND CHILDS - IT WILL BE BETTER IF THESE THREE THINKS ARE WILL BE AS FAR AS EACH OTHER!

  • A good friend sent me here to watch! Very moving! The images and music are so complimentary! GiraffePhysco, thank you for providing the background information!

  • @JohnEBMcC If you read a comment below by rebkot, you'll see that GiraggePhysco was mistaken on the history behind the song. But yes, it's a very powerful song!

  • We did this at my high school. It is one of the most hauntingly beautiful pieces i have had the honor to sing. I hope to be able to sing this again in collage or maybe at state solo contest.

  • Does anyone know what they are singing when they go into a different language near the end of the song?

  • @hpfan518

According to the description (the last part of it), it is in Croatian.

  • @tpacemaker2 Thanks I obviously didnt read the discription.

  • @hpfan518 "Did you hear the prayer of the children?"

  • Thank you Baylor!

  • Incredible work of image choice, with the best performance of the music I have heard.

  • I cried

  • Such a touching song the first time I seen this I was at school in my comp tech class for a trigger video and it brought tears to my eyes. It such a true and beautiful song!

  • The two people who disliked this song dont know anything. This song is sooo amazing and make me very emotional when i think about what it means to me

  • there are many versions of this song. some dont use gods name. but with god's name or without , this song still has meaning to it.. even without god and Jesus..

    blessed be!

  • @DavidKWegley - Can you elaborate on why you believe this goes against Christianity? It seems to me it's spreading a message of love and peace...

  • @jjones971 actually its not against it at all its how people started hating each other cuz of their religion late 70's early 80's and this song is how we(kids of all ages) suffer and that we have to live through this.

  • Beautiful

  • Gorgeous recording. My school choir is doing this for our Christmas Service later this month - a little depressing, but very meaningful indeed.

  • Also, is there anywhere to purchase the audio of this video?

  • This is the best interpretation of this song that I have been able to find. Well done to the choir, and the video just adds so much.

  • This song is beautiful. While I'm listening to this, it makes me picture the "I have a dream" speech by Martin Luther King Jr cause he is a saint. Anyways, its just beautiful.

  • I feel like this song deserves way more views than it has...IDK /:

  • We used a video similar to this one when performing this piece for state honors choir and donated a portion of the sales from CDs to relief efforts. I swear there wasn't a single person in the entire hall not crying, including us. Luckily, we knew it was going to happen, so we all brought tissues. :-P

It's just a beautiful and heart-wrenching song. Still makes me cry every single time it comes up on my iTunes. Great job with the video. :)

  • this song is so beautiful and powerful!!.. im singing this song with my choir at my schools rememberance day assemblies this week, and im so honored to sing it.. we are actually muting the music from this video and having the pictures play in the background while we sing :)

  • Beautiful. Yes, I can hear the prayers of the children after hearing that. Thanks!!

  • Beautiful. Yes, I can hear the prayers of the children after hearing that. Thanks!!

  • Why did two people dislike this? did their hand spasm when they went to click "like"?

  • Every nation is God Children ....we are 1 family in this planet.

Love each other.......as Jesus love every one of us.

  • what is the english translation of the language at 4:00-ish?

  • @rebisify i think it translates to "can you hear the prayers of the children." our hs choir is doing it and our teacher looked it up.

  • So proud of my Alma Mater at times like this! What a gorgeous rendition and performance of one of the most meaningful, emotional videos I've seen or heard on You Tube. Thanks so much for presenting it here. [former member of the Baylor Chapel Choir and Baylor Oratorio Chorus]

  • the bass part in this song is soo amazing. like a warm hug

  • @cheifslax23

when the basses come back in around 3:20, it gives me chills every time

    its so rich and warm

  • thank i like it

  • I've heard dozzens of renditions of "The Prayer of the Children" - many outstanding. This is perhaps the most beautiful version I've ever heard. Perhaps it takes a men's choir to vocalize the pathos of war...

  • What a great song that isn't song that often anymore. There i s a story behind it that everyone should here. The movie makes it so much better, too. Thank you so much for putting your time into it! Great job.

  • My dads a doctor he was born in Cameroon a small country in Africa being a doctors son i would get almost everything i wanted and take everything for granted but it made me see what is really happening in our world today I have a home a family food water a safe warm place and these children lives were stolen from them in the blink of an eye it really made me think and i hope it made everyone think the same way dont take anything for granted give thanks 2 anyone for anything you could die anytime

  • Very well done! I was the co-founder of my high school acapella group and we sang this song! Great arrangement!!!! Keep up the amazing work guys!!!!

  • love the bass and they crescendo beautifully :) amazing song and amazing choir

  • My choir instructor went to Europe to the Nazi Death Camps. The choir he was touring with stopped at Auschwitz and sang this song at the gates. I can't imagine that. Spectacular sound from this choir. Only a mens choir can do this song justice, no offense to women, but the sound of a mature mail choir singing this song moves me

  • @alexhc09 I doubt the Jewish children in Auschwitz were crying to Jesus to help them.

  • @MankoLKR point taken, but thats not the point. The point is that the power of this song can move people to tears. Singing this song at a place such as Auschwitz, or any major place where mass murder took place, is an amazing thought that I can't imagine

  • @alexhc09 I agree it sounds better with an all mens chorus, and it just doesn't sound as moving with an all women's; however my choir a few years ago did an incredible SSATB version of this song and I believe with a mixed choir it can be even more powerful with such a vast scale of voices.

  • @alexhc09 Our womens choir sang it for a concert... we did great, and got a standing ovation.. and people were crying. Did we move them?

    I think so.

  • @xxEmoPandaxxx I'm happy for you, but what i'm saying is a matter of opinion. The song itself is moving, and everyone is entitled to there own take on the song. In my own opinion, as I stated before, I like the song done by a mens choir. In your opinion, you like the song done with women. I don't doubt that your choir did it well, and I'm sure it was moving. Opinion is something that can't be argued, and those that do just get angry. I respect your opinion, have some class and respect mine

  • @alexhc09 I agree! In my choir, we're singing this with all women, and it's not bad, it would just sound so much more powerful with a strong base of men.

  • @alexhc09 its all because men have over tones and obviously deep bass which gives in turn a fuller richer sound. not saying the ladies have unimportant voices, but that they will never produce rich over toned voice. nicely pointed out my man.

  • @alexhc09 I definitely agree with the mature sound of having low basses on their notes and such, but what about a mixed choir? It still has the fullness of sound, but it also has women in it!

I guess I'm just jealous that I'm not a super Bass. I guess that happens when I'm an Alto.

  • @aseretkavon I'm a bass 2 so my view is jaded. I like a mens choir doing it, thats just my opinion

  • @alexhc09 It's the basses. They really pull it together. :)

  • @alexhc09 misspelled male. ore used the wrong one.

  • @Jmoairmaster I noticed that after hitting the post button lol. That's my bad

  • sic 'em!

  • alright, this was wonderful, i love this version

  • aye, Risca Male Voice is doing this one at the moment. What a beautiful piece... Brings tears to my eyes every time

  • Absolutely BEAUTIFUL job by the Baylor Men's Choir!!! One of the BEST I've ever heard of this song. Thank you! Interesting slide-show... touches my heart

  • We do this song in my men's chorus at our high school. It's amazing...

  • @closetviolinista

    most def! :)

thank you @SethAdamSmith for uploading this. and thanks for the pictures of all the horrific world tragedies. it really spreads awareness to the clueless people and gives them a more powerful feeling when they listen to this song with images. it gives them a better understanding of the meaning behind the song

  • @closetviolinista

i've heard that story too. hm, im not sure. but i still absolutely love this song. i could listen to this forever. :) the bass part makes me melt. i get goosebumps everytime!!

  • @GiraffePhysco Me too!! A musical triumph in every regard. It makes me feel like maybe music really can change the world. It changes MY world. :-)

  • MY chorus is attemptiong this song. =D It is so gorgeous.

  • Great job guys! There is another group you might want to check out one here...type in Brethren Southern ACDA 2010

  • This is one of those songs that really makes you think and puts you in aw and you feel like wow

  • Our Prince Albert Men's Chorus had the privilege of singing this number in Concert a couple of years ago. I believe even practising throughout the year had an effect on us. Thank you for the visual images.

  • "The songs of nightingales are heard with pleasure, and the cries of infants for their freedom, will go beyond the simple human justice, freedom is an event for infants, that's my word, and my presence will tour those places"

    Grand Master of Masters

    perfect light and

    king of kings

    Mr Jesus Super Star

  • Well done, Baylor! You have sung this song beautifully. It is really reassuring to know young men can stiill sing like this, with such precision and feeling. Keep it up, always. Congratulations to the coach.

  • I almost couldn't watch the video, it was so heart wrenching. Beautifully done.

  • makes me cry. every. single. time.

  • Man... if you don't have five minutes to listen to something truly beautiful and moving, you have issues. This song is about the children and the horrors of war. It's not about people with less than five minutes time...

  • When grown men are moved to tears...that is the power of this song.

When at a music competition and the judge cannot even pick up a pencil...that is the power of this song.

When this song moves you to make a difference, no matter how small...that is the power of this song.

  • wow...bravo. amazing video!

  • This song is VERY touching. It gave me chills.

  • this is so beautifully done. the story behind the song is absolutely heart wrenching. A doctor went to a war torn country to help out with a childrens hospital there. He bonded with the staff and alot of the people(including the children) there. He was sent out one day to get supplies/more medicine. He came back to a horrific scene. The entire village and hospital had been bombed. No one was left. They all had died. He returned home and wrote this song in honor of those who were lost.

  • man i agree with you so much, i love this song

  • @GiraffePhysco That is a beautiful story, but this was actually written by Kurt Bestor who is a composer, not a doctor and it was written as a personal response to the civil war in Yugoslavia. You can read it on his blog in his own words if you google "prayer of the children story."

  • @GiraffePhysco yeah. it was in serbia :(

  • @GiraffePhysco Not quite. But close. Actually, Kurt Bestor served an LDS mission to Yugoslavia, and came to love the people. He wrote this song in his frustration over the Civil War that ensued upon his return to the states. He thought about the children and the sadness and confusion they must have been feeling. He started to think, "Can't you hear...? Can't you feel...?" He explains it better... google it...

  • @GiraffePhysco Everytime i hear this story, It gives me goose-bumps. But this song is absolutely beautiful

  • @GiraffePhysco google the artist/writer of this song "KURT BESTOR" and you'll get the real story

  • @GiraffePhysco I had heard this also, but after looking up commentary from the writer, he made no mention of any bombed orphanage... do we have a source for this information?

  • @GiraffePhysco I had heard this also, but after looking up commentary from the writer, he made no mention of any bombed orphanage... do we have a source for this information? Look on wikipedia for Prayer of the Children and you'll see his account of writing it.

  • @GiraffePhysco No disrespect, but that's' not true. It was written by Kurt Bestor, who served an LDS mission in Croatia/Serbia area (I think) and was saddened by the wars after he left.

  • @rebkot Please pray that the story did not actually happen! Because if it did happen, that incident would be one of the heaviest burdens in the conscience of mankind!

  • @GiraffePhysco No disrespect, but that's' not true. It was written by Kurt Bestor, who served an LDS mission in Bosnia area (I think) and was saddened by the wars after he left. And I agree it is performed much too slowly. I've heard Mr. Bestor perform it, and he does it about twice as fast as this.

  • @rebkot I performed this piece last year in my A Capella group at a faster tempo. To be completely honest, the utter emotion that flows from the music of this song can only truly come through with a slower tempo. I love this, and even after singing this song, I still get emotional listening to it.

  • @rebkot Personally I enjoy the slower tempo more, but that's just my preference

  • @GiraffePhysco

It was during the civil war in Yugoslavia.

That's why I live in Amerca, my parents were refugees.

I speak Croatian and I'm helping my choir get attached to the song.

It already brought tears to our eyes.

  • @GiraffePhysco Not to burst your bubble, but this was written by Kurt Bestor, who is a composer, not a doctor. He was a missionary for the LDS church in Serbia. I'm taking composition lessons From Newell Dayley, who was his teacher. Of course, the inspiration is still about the same.

  • @GiraffePhysco That's not the truth, though. It was a priest who went over to Bosnia and Serbia during the civil war. He wrote this song for the torn families. It's not actually about abused children, or sick children. It's about torn families.

  • @GiraffePhysco The composer isn't a doctor...

  • My honor's choir is doing this at school and i have to say it is a very sad and emotional song if done by the correct group

  • My choir is doing this song as part of the relief efforts we are doing for Haiti. We are singing it at our concert next week and it is quite amazing!

  • this is such an amazing song, especially when done by a talented choral group

my chorus did this and i dont think there was a dry eye in the house... such an amazing emotional piece with a great message

  • The Bass Choir I'm in sang this last year and we heard a collegiate choir sing it and I swear all of Bass Choir cried

  • Hey !!! :( Not fair not fair at all....

  • its so much fun to sing this song with a mens ensemble even with the somber idea behind it, but the camaraderie of doing it is great

  • this song kicks straight up ass.

  • no words...

  • I just sang this today with Michigan University Men's Glee Club (only in high school). It is such a beautiful song and awesome to sing with a choir over one hundred strong.

  • @TheSoftPeace I was there to, i remember the looks on the Women's Glee Club when we finished. i still remember the chills down my spine when over 100 men crescendo on "crying some one (jesus) help me." just amazing! go bass!

  • The first time i heard this song they played it on a radio station while i was driving. I was so moved by the song that I had to pull off the free way and park to cry. IT is sooo beautiful.

  • had to sing this and MLK at a funeral, soooo sad :c.

  • My school's Men's Chorus sang this a few days ago, and i swear every person there teared up. This is such a beautiful heart wrenching song.

  • I'm not going to lie I broke out crying the instant I saw the Columbine picture with the aggression in the voices of the singers.

Both this one and the first one you made give me the chills when I watch them.

Thank you for raising awareness by making these.
