Hi,nice vid. Why U sold Mamiya 7 ? U didn`t like it for some reason? Any caveats? Something better 6/7cm coming up? I would appreciate answer. Bcause I`m going get one, and i already have D80 & D700 with good lenses set (which i`ll keep). Don`t want D6 or Leica but seems everyone gets rid of Mamiya 7ii. Why? Any reason bsides weight ? Thanks a lot. Please reply. Thanks !
@111nuthead Hey, actually I still keep them and I do love them! They produce far better image than everything else. The only thing matters is the way that you use a camera. Mamiya 7 is more or less the same as a big SLR (which you raise to the eye level and aim). I am more frequently using a Rolleiflex or a tiny Olympus XA now, the waist level finder or the casual p&s makes me feel more relaxed and closer to the emotion.
@halfy666 Thnks 4 kind reply! So U could`nt get enough on eBay or u just changed your mind? Anyway glad u keep it. How easy or hard metering on it? I never dealt with film but have my way with SLR`s. Did u follow KenRockwell aperture set table for Mamiya or just go with given marking ? How many rolls u waste before getting in a groove? Too many questions, i know. May be u`ll answer... Thanks.
@111nuthead I listed for a short while then I canceled my list :) The meter is reliable as long as you know the manner in which it works. Don't give ken rockwell a damn, this guy does nothing but buy cameras and live on donations, he never came with nothing deep ... trust your own gut feeling and experience. How mant rolls, well it depends on individual right? Not even a single frame is waste ... everything exists for a reason.
@halfy666 Thank U! Really appreciate Your answers. Still a little on fence btw Mamiya7ii & 35mm rangefinders( Leica MP/M7 or Zeiss). Got to put my hands in shop for final decision. I also got p&s Lumix LX5-looks better than Leica, but that`s the look of toy/ lighter, not Camera. After D700 p&s doesn`t cut it Some value more the picture taking, i value a lot the Camera Gear itself , the beefy look & feel which makes u want to take really good pictures. Thanks a lot! Cheers.
@halfy666 PS In a way Leica rangefinders literally! unbelievable: when i see LeicaMP/M7 i can`t believe that`s not P&S camera, and all the more so- u can`t believe the price. I don`t think i would buy Leica over Mamiya 7ii or Pentax 67ii even if new Leica MP/M7 were to cost less. Just "gut feeling".... Cheers.
@111nuthead I will not buy a leica, mamiya 7 is big leica! For the regular 35mm camera I use a Olympus XA. 50 bucks P&S :) And I have a Xpan, I consider it the only serious 35mm film gear worth buying nowadays ... 35mm film is overpassed in every way by digital ... ever think of the fuji x100? or Hexar RF?
@halfy666 Thnks a lot! Absolutely agree: film is almost beaten by digtl now, think 3-5years ahead! ,btw, u might want to check on utube "themacdaddytj"> "film vs. digital". Though photography long ago "overpassed" Artist Painting, portraiture... but somehow Rafaelle & Michelandgelo made it through :)... I`ll try RF either Mamiya7ii or Zeiss 35mm. I wonder if IQ difference justifies huge Weight& size Difference. Got to hold Mam7 to check craftsmanship of body: on photos it`s suspicious. Cheers!
@halfy666 PS. I don`t buy secondhand gear. Xpan discontinued & cumbersome 4me. Fuji x100 is digital, Hexar RF discont. My main interest- digital ( got big expensive system), just want Fresh air in the RF film field. Cheers.
@VALMARIESASK seems like a stupid way to go about buying precision photographic equipment. ignore the best equipment and go for the inferior one because they are nice to you or something? there isn't anything as good as the mamiya 7 system. sharpest optics in the world. so you seem kind of silly buying fuji, to me. i bet you're jealous of this guy having this great system.
For a street photographer who usually shoots static subjects would the 65 or 80mm lens be the best?
