@NancyStar345 Poor Hector walks to the store in the hot weather and does all the work, and instead of thanking him they complain about what he didn't buy. TYPICAL WOMEN
People always say the creators etc of programmes like this were on some drug. Yes the drug was imagination. And people spoke like that because they didn't feel the need to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
I cant believe that I actually enjoyed watching and listening to this nonsense when I was much younger. What kind of drugs was Hector abusing when he turned his car into a fire engine? Hector's memory problems are a direct result of his rampant alcoholism and consequently this is why that program is no longer broadcast.
The voice of Hector was the voice of actor Paul Bacon. A truly charming and lovely man.Very kind and talented. He co-starred opposite Anthony newley in the musical The Good Old Bad Old days in the 1970's. he was a good friend. R.I.P. Paul.xx.
"I don't understand why you walked into town, why on Earth didn't you go in your car Hector?""Oh really Zsa Zsa, stop talking nonsense. You know as well as I do we turned the car into a fire engine.""Ohhhh yes!"..."And although you may not have noticed it, people aren't in the habit of going shopping in fire engines.""You're right there!"
Wonderful memories. The problem today is that today, most people have forgotten about God. Until people collectively repent and pray for themselves, family, their community, and nation, things are going to get much worse. Jesus saves, people, we need to seek the Lord and repent.
you're absolutely right, Jesus bled and died on the cross for us and none of these bastards give a shit do they? i hope they all spend eternity in the lake of fire, being eaten from the inside by worms and tormented by demons with hooks and forks.
btw, who's your favourite H.H. character? i like Kiki.
@norristerse. Very true. Unbelievers will look back at how wonderful life was back then, but, we, the faithful in Christ, have a promise from God that is taking us back to those wonderful, happy, and innocent times in heaven, but, it will be infinitely better. Now the reality of that promise fills my heart with incredible joy every single day.
My favorite H.H. character? I loved them all, they were all very special and gave me so much joy.
me too, although my favourite programme was the Pogles.
the word of God fills me with joy too, but i do sometimes despair of mankind when i hear the amount of blasphemy and desecration going on these days. it really fucks me off no end.
Exactly, it makes me sick to the stomach. The parents who lived during the golden age of the 70's are as much to blame for the moral chaos in our society. It is because of their liberal moral values and failure to bring them up in a strong Christian environment, that we are in this mess. Until people are humble enough to accept that they are not god, but there is one who is even higher than them, their Maker, this country deserves to die and go to hell. And it will.
Me too, just loved it. My other favourites were Chigley, Trumpton, and Camberwick Green and Mary, Mungo, and Midge which were shown at luncthimes. And of course, Rainbow. Teatime after school were really fun times, when we feasted on Jackanory, Playschool, Magic Roundabout, ScreenTest. Ah, those days were just heaven. I actually bought a dvd collection of some of these great programmes to watch with the family or on my own. Life was so good then.
Hector's voice was performed by Paul Bacon, who died in 1995. The voice of Kiki was by Denise Bryer, more famous for her roles in Noddy, Terrahawks and Labyrinth. The voice of Zsazsa was supplied by Joanna Lumley. At least 50 episodes were made, each of 5 minutes duration..
What's with this equality we are supposed to enjoy now in the modern world. Hector is loaded with an abundance of menial household chores while that stupid cat just giggles her way through the whole episode. No wonder us men are all in the mess we are in. And don't even mention that bastard frog.
@bertiedump I suspect you're seeing this through the lens of 4 decades of jaded cynicism, adding several layers of contemporary assumptions & acceptance of modern sexual morés.
It was a far more innocent time. Notions of sexuality wouldn't have occurred to the makers of a children's television puppet show in the middle of the '60s, it just didn't happen.
However, it was French & Hector does look like a gay stripper with that shirtless collar and tie, not that there's anything wrong with that.
@geffel "Notions of sexuality wouldn't have occurred to the makers of a children's television puppet show in the middle of the '60s"
o come on your memories letting you down, no notions of sexuality, what about Captain Pugwash with seamen stains, Roger the cabin boy and master Bates, surely theres a hint of doubl'e entendre there.
@MindCrazedBanjo Ah, that urban legend. It was Tom the Cabin Boy, there was no seaman staines, but you may be right that there was a mister Bates - however, most people buy into the the myth that is was 'master bates', which, of course, it was not.
This video has shaped my Mothers and my Aunt life, they have actually taken characteristics from this, and explain many, many, disturbing things. Including my nickname, Kikilovebucket, will never be same to me.
My mum bought me the entire series the other year for my birthday. I watched the first few episodes and was just like "What the fuck is this? Why is a dog married to cat, yet has the frog as a fuck buddy?" :|
But then i foudn the show hilarious & proper amazing after like the 5th episode :')
This episode pisses me off at the beginning cause Kiki the frog who doesn even live with Hector is bitching to him cause HE didnt but HER any writing paper! BUT IT YOURSELF NEXT TIME BITCH!! :')
@mattheeley19 ....and what did your mother say after you used all these expletives..? Was she upset....or did she think you were 'proper amazing'....?
Hector should say - 'how about I wring your fucking neck you green turd!' He's off doing the shopping for those two shits and all they do is give him backchat and try and take the piss.
A Dog called Hector, and the whinging Cat and Frog all living in a house, I think somebody was smoking the reefer when they came up with that idea, but nonetheless quite enchanting.
A Dog called Hector, and the whinging Cat and Frog all living in a house, I think somebody was smoking the reefer when they came up with that idea, but nonetheless quite enchanting.
As a child of the 1960s, I never realised their accents sounded so plummy, and never thought it strange at the time that a dog, cat and a frog should be living together! Innocent days!
This and the Herbs scared me - and I was a streetwise 9 year old council estate boy. The way they moved? That frog? That cat? Terrifying...still scared. I'm an Asst. Headteacher now - I should use it for detentions - they'd behave then! It is probably because they never seemed to eat chips and beans like me...are they posh? Frightening.....!!
Hahaha, really enjoyed seeing this again, and I've just bought the DVD (30 episodes). I have vague memories of watching this in the seventies. I love the voice-overs! Is that Donald Sinden voicing Hector?
I remember watching this, i was born in '68, so it must have been around 72 or '73. It goes some way to explaining why I'm not quite right in the head...
Funny, I was born a year later and I don't remember this at all! It wasn't until someone mentioned it on a Dr Who commentary that I watched this so I knew what the hell they were talking about! It's very sweet!
A friend of mine was saying . . . why doesn't Hector ever sing a doleful song about how he will never quit the blood feud that his grandfather started?
I have just watched a bit of Mary, Mungo and Midge which was even more awful than I remember - but this is actually quite good - it is so resolutely mental.
You remember this from your childhood but you sold all your videos years ago, you don't know how strange that sounds to me. I remember this from my early childhood when the invention of the video recorder/player was well over a decade ago. The VCR wasn't even science fiction at the time because nobody had veven conceived the idea. I didn't realise that they even ran repeats of this show after the late 60s/early 70s but it seems they did and i missed it.
The voice of Hector was the voice of actor Paul Bacon. Also famous for the Pal with nourishing marrowbone jelly commercial. Lovely paul is sadly no longer with us.
