Day 18 - Anime Review: Street Fighter II The Animated Movie

You are out of your mind and obviously not a street fighter fan! This movie is epic! In every way. Story was perfect! Look at the JCVD movie, or the American series or even street fighter alpha movie and then compare those to this! I have seen this movie so many times and I own it as well. You are entitled to your opinion but don't go telling people not to watch it for a good story! This has a good story and any true street fighter fan will agree with me. :)

We all know Street Fighter Canon is a mess. With so many characters, each with their own story, its nearly impossible to make a movie and not dissapoint fans. It focuses on Ryu and Ken because they are the "poster boys", the biggest and most known characters. Only canon that came from SF2 is Akuma killing Bison. There will never be a official Canon due to Street Fighter's sheer size and roster.

When you say that Bisson wanted to find Ryu and brainwash him and that it would "somehow achieve world domination for him" kinda shows me you didn't pay much attention. Part of the world domination scheme is to make the best fighters in the world his slaves so he can take over the world with great ease. That was the point.

This movie plays a HUUUGE role in my. I've been a fan of this movie since the day my eyes opened and I I began developing my motor skills lol. Its one of the greatest movies I have ever seen, I know there are some downsides to it, particularly the quick cameos from most characters, but i guess since it got me when i was young it managed to change my life. Everything from the animation, the action, the likeness to the game, and of course, the AWESOME soundtrack make this movie the best sf film!

Good review. I might have made mention of the differences in soundtrack between the English and Japanese versions, where the former is heavy metal / rock, and the latter .. well, honestly that last fight song sounded like a game show. It was really bad. Essentially, I have to agree with what you said apart from the rental bit; personally speaking I'd want to have this movie in my collection on account of being such a SF nut.

Excellent review of the, IMHO, best video game movie ever made, period.

This was everything the live-action attempt at Street Fighter wanted to be but was so terribly disappointing in every way.

This = epic, the failings in dialogue and plot are totally made up for by the fights. Chun Li's shower scene FTW, the japanese uncut version is Super Awesome.

I respectfully disagree with this review. It's by no means perfect but it's better than the others. I mean, the Chun-Li live action movie was a disgrace to SF fans, people have actually said the Van Damne movie was better! I know it was lame how some characters were just cameos but I'd rather focus heavily on the key characters then force 16 stories into one movie. Sure, there is some really corny dialogue and Chun Li looks out of place in her out fit but it's still the best SF movie ever made.

You don't even get the animated movie... Bison is getting the top fighters in the world, not by just getting them means he rules the world. There's a logical process. Bison gathers the top fighters in the world, then he uses them to attack everyone in the world, forcing people to on Bison's side or die if go against him, and thus Bison rules the world by having control over everybody.

Street Fighter- The Animated Movie is DULL and BORING as dishwater.

All this "Streetfighters are all friends together" to get Bison in his Thailand Hideout with Balrog and Vega as henchmen?

C-mon have a "Bloodsport" style tournament setting to get everyone in the ring with lots of fights. With a faceoff between Bison and Ryu.

This is the only Anime film in my collection where I was asked to turn it off as it was just a bunch of scenes.

I think that video game based movies should stay within anime. it's much easier to just draw and have a person speak for the character, rather than having a person totally screw up the character. plus, it's easier to stick with the special abilities the people have.

I loved this movie. But I hated the new live-action Chun-Li movie. The lines were totally lame, the action sequences were not inspiring, and the story was way off course. And using Taboo as Vega was SO wrong. I wish that if there is a future SF movie Vega will be hot. Back to the topic, Chun-Li doesn't even look like Chun-Li at all. Hollywood just used a

non-Chinese toothpick who can't act. So I blame Hollywood for not creating a better movie that would actually make SF look good.

I agree that the english version had some crap dialogue, but if you've ever seen the japanese (english subtitles) version (which you can easily choose on the dvd movie menu), i'm sure you couldn't bash the dialogue the way you did. this isnt the 1st japanime that was messed up with sloppy english voice talents. also, the storyline was a lot better than most other japanime movies of the 90's. Give it a break.

Totally disagree with your review, the storyline is pretty deep at times and deals a lot with the complex emotions that Ryu and Ken share, as well as Guile and Chun Li's motiviation. The dialogue is also pretty awesome at times, especially Bison's, the english voice actor did an excellent job in my opinion.

Actually, the movie was a lot different than the game. When this movie was made, Bison didn't have any mind control machine and he wasn't hunting Ryu. That happened later in the Alpha series. SF2, which this was based off of, was about a tournament. But there was no tournament in this movie. So it did change things from the game.
