I'm playing Civ IV now, but I think I prefer Civ III over it. I don't know why exactly, maybe just for nostalgic reasons, but it also has a certain simplicity, yet complexity to it. It's alot easier to see which units are yours, and which are other civilization's. I don't like the religion system in Civ IV neither, I just do free religion when I get the chance and let the cities decide.

What are you talking about best stradegy game! It was buggy, I've played games where new resources would never appear before the patch. Not only that battle ships would lose to ancients ships. No, this game had numerous flaws.

@tragicblackness It's based on stats/odds, not what units look like. I found it worse in Civ 4. I charge people with 5+ elephants with better atack/def stats and one tiny little unit klils 3 of them at least.

I think civ3 is simply the best strategy game of all time.  Civ 4 was a great game too but didn't have the same feel and greatness of civ3.

Many things happened in Civ III that happened for no apparent reason. Civ IV made everything, well, almost everything, more clear.

Plus, Civ IV is easier to learn initially but still has loads of strategies.

Civ III is the best in my opinion. I think they ruined the game by adding all those "improvements" to it. I don't like the complete 3d feel to it either...just not civilizations style. (revolutions was even worse)

Civ III is like Civ II--you spam settlers. Civ IV reduced the number of cities and units and made them more specialized.

YOU can't even make pro grade mods with civ4 the stress laod is already to high for basic shit. Civ3 has every unit that ever saw war on a flavour scale (divided betweenn 31 civs)

Corruption, pollution and all that shit was fixed proper with new expansion imps a year ago. Took only 3 years of game designers volentering their time and taxin the editer but now civ3.5 is civ4
