I'm going to make one of these exactly (except paper color) for my grandkids for the rest of the to keep on the desk and take in the car on trips for the year... everything from pix of school projects to stuff they pick up on vacation. With the box attached, its perfect!

I am going to make one like this and when I'm done with the album/journal I will use the little box to hold memorabilia or keepsakes. Thanks for sharing your great idea- I'm excited about making my own and know I will like it more than any one I could buy! AND I can use up a bunch of patterned/design paper that I've been hoarding because I like it but only have 1 sheet ! Thanks so much!

Actually I think it would be a brilliant idea to have one for each of the kids to document their "what I did on my summer holidays" What amazing fun it would be to look back on them in a few years. Check out the How to videos by chrispea. I just watched it and she has some page designs to download and print that are so cute!
I've just signed up with my DD1 to do the 'Kidding Around 2' class on BigPictureClasses. It starts at the end of June so just in time for our Summer holidays! There's prompts and projects during the holidays and they recommend using Smash books. As they're only pre-order here in the UK I think I'll be following MaryAnne's example and make my own!

I love this idea. A whole lot better than the smash books. I especially love the pencil box idea. This is something that I will be doing for myself.
