Good idea for Grandma,I have one that I keep in an EMP proof box.I got a 3000w that handles the 2 different style of sine waves, low and high. Its what a trucker uses in his cab for running a fridge, micro wave etc.I just pop the hood of my car in the garage and it will run just about anything. The biggest thing is the watts, look at the watt usage of anything elec you think you may possibly need to run, determine your needs. Most people don't give this a thought and the fuse is blown.
cool idea and all, but is it cheaper than a ups with the same capibility? if its cheaper more power to you, but that is basicly a less advanced ups. its not even a ups because ther will be an interruption if the power goes out (you have to change what you are plugged into) but still dont get me wrong its a cool tool, and a cool project, just dont see the real use unless it is substansialy cheaper than a ups that can do the same thing, and better.
You might want to verify that the output from the modified since-wave inverter won't damage the electronics in the pellet stove. The pellet stove may need a pure sign wave inverter.
great idea, you really don't have to worry much about about the hydrogen with that trickle charger / maintainer, but when you hook up the car battery charger, I would take that thing outside. Have you thought about putting a handle and some caster wheels on it? I'm thinking about doing this myself, just waiting on a good agm deep cycle battery to go on sale at sears or walmart.
Pretty neat! One suggestion, might want to make the aligator type clamp connections more secure to prevent voltage drop and better amp flow. Additionally you may consider a vent tube out side as deep cycle batteries can off gas some hydrogen when in use. I guess that's two suggestions, anyway great job!
@IpdVolvo Thats a good idea. I was a little concerned about the connections, but I didn't think about rewiring them. As usual I put it off until the day before Christmas, so I was a little rushed. I think I'll do that though.
I don't know if you noticed the handles cut in the sides of the box, but I was hoping that would provide enough ventilation. I've also considered adding a PC case fan to the side of the box. The inverter has a USB charging port, so I could use the 5V from that.
I realized after posting my reply that you probably meant a tube from the box to the outside of the house. I hadn't thought of that. How much gas do you think this would produce?
My Breckwell with its electronic control will not work without a full pure sine wave converter.

Did you get in trouble for putting the box on the dining room table?

Very nice setup. Is it a pure sine wave inverter? My Harman requires one. It has AC motors.

Thanks. It's a modified sine wave inverter. To be honest, I don't really know what the difference is, except the price.
