  • Are netherlanders really tall or the French smaller? Random question :P

  • @MaGiCpEnGu1n People from the Netherlands together with Scandinavians count to the tallest people, on average that is. Not only on average.

  • @ABrandsma Oh alright, and nice tune. Bass saxophones sound really cool :)

  • I play bari sax, I want a new one so baddd!

  • Could listen to this all day.

Do you know where to find sheet music for this song?

  • battle of the sandals!

  • are you playing Won't you Come Home Bill Bailey?

  • is this a Bb or Eb instrument?

  • @MrExtraToastable Bb full octave lower as a tenor sax

  • agh

  • sax sex

  • I'm dying, this is so cool.

  • That knocked my socks off! Bravissimo!!

  • @sfbassoonguy Haha, great remark! Loved that one.

  • @ABrandsma Ik vroeg mij af wat dee noten zijn voor het eerste deel van deze video.

(zeg maar de eerste 30 seconden)

  • You 2 are amazing! 0.o

  • battle of saxes? sounds more like sex of saxes!

  • wao all i can do is applaud you, you guys are amazing...i have played from alto to Berry trying to find a challenge, for now ill stik to the berry... but i know what im playing next

  • OH MY GOSH!!! hahaha you guys are my idols! xD

  • Thank you - it's so rare to find bass sax videos that are actually worthwhile musically, let alone a duet.

  • dude your socks are awesome but your saxaphone skills are great

  • @2flytubaguy Thanks!

  • the sax doing loop and lowest voice sounds like a tuba.

  • sandles sandles

  • @imakedookie Thanks!!! At last someone who doesn't discuss my socks!!! You made my day!

  • Would this work for two Bari saxes? It sounds great and me and a friend were wondering. Any help would be great. thanks :)

  • @MrObjectionable Yes, it can be done, you need to find a good song and a good key for it.

  • @ABrandsma thanks :)

  • THOSE SOCKS ARE AWESOME

  • what's the point of playing bass if you never play a note that goes below the range of a bari?

  • @DCATPYEO The sound is much more impressive, since the bell is bigger.

  • @DCATPYEO I do play lower, and the sound is much more impressive. No bari can beat it.

  • @ABrandsma i play bari and desperately want a bass sax...this conversation just makes me sad

  • @tackledparsley same here -_- i play beri nd want a bass sax..

  • @DCATPYEO some of the lower frequencies and pitches sound.. unpleasant... lol sorry about my speeling. and it might just have a bssier tone. i play bari in an alto range and it still has the bass tone of a bari :)

  • what about some multiphonics and heavy growling with those socks ! .....please !

  • Whoa doesn't even describe this!

  • Tanto di cappello.. bravi!

  • you'd think they would be exhausted, but no!

  • I bet these guys are getting more sliv than bass guitarists.

  • @BazBuzinkum Sliv? sorry I din't know the meaning of that word......

  • @ABrandsma sorry, I meant to type sliz. Sliznatch. Gunth. Fupa chalupa.

  • those socks are fucking awesome

  • @mishaped1 They are getting so famous that I offer to rent them now.

  • @ABrandsma man, that's sweet

  • i Need the bass line part played by giorgio

  • @97berryhill There is no part. Giorgio constructed it from the chord sequence.

    Kind regards,

    Bert Brandsma

  • I also play this. can you give me the music or name of the song your playing?

  • @97berryhill Won't you come home, Bill Bailey

  • @ABrandsma All joking aside I'm a sax player with a music channel myself nicely done gens ;)

  • dit swingt!!!

  • Amazing job.

  • luv the left gus sox

    they RULE!!!

  • Beautiful symphony

  • awesome

  • Man those horns sound nice! I played alto and baritone for about 9 years through middle school and high school. Then gave my horn to my brother and now he plays it. Love to have another. One day i remember I didn't practice my scales and my band director locked me in the instrument storage room. I was all alone so I looked around and found an old dusty sax case. I pulled the horn out and it was a Bass! I put by baritone mouthpiece on it and played it! Sweet! Found out it was know as the Bitch!

  • @graffin00000 that's a cool story. That's pretty funny that your band director locked you in the storage room. I gotta try one of these monsters.

  • & i dont see any music sheets in front o you two? thats amzing thing to memorize !

  • I've listened to this 20 times and its better each time.

  • @kabrinkley Now that is a nice comment!

  • Lovely playing guys. What mouthpieces were you using? I preferred the sound of the Martin, but would be very happy to find a place for either at home!!

  • On the Martin I used to play a 1950's Selmer Bass mouthpiece, number E. It is not so wide as a vintage original bass sax piece, but it worked pretty well. Had a lot of punch. On several other basses I use original wide pieces. you can play softer on them.

  • @ABrandsma

    Thanks,

Am I misunderstanding you? You say you can play softer on a wider piece?

  • @ABrandsma

Thanks, but am I misunderstanding you - I read it that the older, wider mouthpieces mean you can play more softly..

  • In my experience that is often right, but it also depends on the shape of the mouthpiece. I mean the distance between the reed and the mouthpiece itself. If the distance is large, it is less easy to play soft.

Generally speaking, vintage mpc are closer to the reed. But not always.

  • where the heck do you get bass and contras from?

  • Man that was nice.....sounds like some New Orleans second sine jazz....Great Job guys.

  • This is sooo awesome!!!

What are the notes for the beginning rhythm type thing. For Bb it's: ? G Bb D E F?

  • what key are bass saxes in? Bb? Eb?

  • Bb 1 full octave lower then a tenor sax

    thanks for watching,

    BB

  • Yikes, the bare floors and walls mean way too much echo...

  • I'm sorry, we had no other location available at that time and place.

    Kind regards,

    Bert Brandsma

  • @alphakky I think it adds an awesome sound... lol...

  • Nice video! Bass sax kicks ass!

  • lol funny music

  • really a great sound

  • omg, i am sooo sad.. i miss my sax...i have no sax life :( lol

  • cute socks

  • Oh no! Not again! Hahahahahahahahaha!

  • Great stuff! Who cares about the guy's who's only point of view is negative?

  • very different, love it!

  • i think the selmer looks better i dont like how low the bell is but then again i play alto so idk if the bell being lower or higher affects the sound

  • This is fun. It makes me want to take out a 2nd morgage and get one of these things.

  • If this only had real stereo sound and high quality.... :D

  • I don't even hear MUSIC... I just hear two big sounds crashing together...

  • Hahahaha, funny words. When I studied at conservatory we were asked to think about the meaning of the word music.

One professor had the idea of naming it ordered sound.

There definitly is order in the sounds you hear in this video.

If you like it or recognise it is of course another matter, but there definitly is an order. Even a harmonic progression, a melody and all.

    Kind regards,

    Bert Brandsma

  • @ABrandsma ho cares about that? who cares about what music is? i only care about if i like it or not, i don't

  • Then don't visit this video again, and find one you do like!

  • This video always puts a smile on my face...

  • Dudes awesome style (Y) I just dont get it why people say saxophone is better than guitar

God watch out wednesday 13 and zack wylde!

  • @nolan30000 because it its better than guitar

  • @manta965 unless users use sarcasm :/

Jazz guitar players just sound so much and are more skilled than sax players :/

  • @nolan30000 skill is something completely different then the sound and quality on sax it is much harder to get clear nice tone especially on theas big saxophones guitar just tune the strings and pluck or pick what ever and you are done also guitar can play cords sax cant so the fact that there is more sound may make it sound more skilled but its rely there both not to hard to learn or play

  • very nice sound and rithm guys

...but...please nex time choose better socks!!!!!

  • ALL THE WAY FOR ITALIANS :D

  • Thanks gents - you've really cheered up my afternoon (and not just by being funky in sandles) - wishing you many years happy grooving x

  • The guy with the socks and sandals is obviously Italian!!! YAY 4 ITALIANS!

  • The guy with only sansals actually is Italian. The socks are Dutch!

  • how do you see the music when it is so far away?

  • We didn't see it, played by memorie.

    Thanks for watching,

    BB

  • nice blue socks with the sandles there!

    ;) haha

    also, this sounds great!

  • I'm getting famous because of the socks in this movie.............

  • @ABrandsma Well, shouldn't you? I mean, HONESTLY No offense intended but, uh... In America.. Err.... People don't usually wear Socks and Sandals so wedon't really know how else to react except by either complimenting or laughing. :\

  • @PierXanthony Hello Pier, I totally feel no offence. It is just funny. When we did this it was just the intention to have some fun with 2 bass saxes. We had never played together. In fact we had never met before until in this hotel in Portugal.

But it turned out to be so nice musically that we decided to film it, without thinking about our looks. We just wanted to have a memory about this great time, far from home!

  • kicking...

  • Hey that was recorded on my birthday! LOL :D

  • @saxophones1397 was recorded the day after mine! lol :P

  • I ENVY YOU! (and I play bari sax)

  • Every now and then we are all blessed with a video camera, and that video camera catches moments that no one else in this world will ever see had it not been for the beloved video camera... thank God for whoever brought the camera this time!

  • this is very nice.love this instument .keep up the good work

  • those socks are rockin. like

  • would it be hard at first when transitioning from the bari to the bass ? How about to the soprano ? you know because they are pitched differently ? Or does that not even matter ?

  • From bari to bass is not a very big step. One problem might be that middle D speaks not well on most basses, you will have to learn some tricks to compensate. To soprano is a bigger step, requires a more tight embouchure. The difference in pitch is generally no problem, unless you have absolute pitch.

  • @ABrandsma Heard sopranos were a bit tricky to play but didn't know really why. NOw I know..

  • Sounds awesome!

  • Hi Redhead!

    Thanks for listening,

    Kind regards,

    Bert Brandsma

  • Freakin' AWESOME!!!!!

  • Adrian Rollini would be turning in his grave at the audacity of a school girl telling us that the bass sax is really a slightly modified baritone. There are band photos from the 20's where string bass or tuba were substituted by bass saxes of monster proportions .

  • This swings PHENOMENALLY ! Awesome !

  • This is so cool. I play bari, but i am definitely gonna get a bass sax now. Oh yea i am almost certain that at 2:56, one of you two was playing the trombone line from "Snake Rag" by Ellington....

  • oops "Snake Rag" is by Louis Armstrong, not Ellington

  • Well then Ma'am TheMaddierox, I can assure you there are bass saxes, their in Bb, unlike the Bari, which is in Eb. They are still called bass saxes today, and they were the first type of sax invented. I've seen a few bass saxes and listened to the players play them compared to a bari, they are quite different.Saying they are the same is the same as saying an apple is the same as an orange.I'm sure someone else can make a better analogy, but the fact still remains the same. These are bass saxes

  • Great job !!

  • Thanks!

  • goodness bert! how tall are you?

  • 1.87 meter. That's average in the Netherlands. We have many pretty long people here.

  • Wow I have never seen, or heard, of a bass sax before!! That's awesome! I always thought that the soprano, alto, tenor and bari were the only ones.

oh and @themaddierox if you really believe that bass saxes dont exist then wtf do you call the huge ass sax on the video here? that is bigger and is shaped a little different than the bari sax, im thinking your still in middle school and thats why you choose to believe your band director but you need to do your own research and think for yourself

  • @MalignantErythrocyte IDC but i believe somebody that lives band and can make others better than some random person that typed a freaking comment because 1 if there was a bass sax i would be playing it.

  • Soprillo - Bb Sopranino - Eb soprano - Bb Alto - Eb melody - C tenor - Bb Bari- Eb Bass - Bb Contrabass - Eb subcontrabass/tubax - Bb/Eb go on wiki and search these sax's for history of origin and more factual details
  • there is no bass my band derector said there isnt and he has 4 master degrees on this. He has made us perfect.

  • You are misinformed. My advice, find a better band director.

  • Thanks, I try to tell Maddierox, but that person is too stubborn.

  • im not stubborn and my band derector has 4 mastery degrees in this subject i am most certain as the 2nd best player in the band

  • You are very stubborn. It's great that you are a fine player and I hope you will improve to best player. After that I hope you will get your music and saxophone history right.

  • im not taking u seriously i am only to believe that my band derector is right and i am not stuborn i just stick up for what is right

  • That will change as you grow more mature and finally discover the truth.

  • i am already mature and i have already discovered the truth and it is what i stand for

  • Well, your truth then is simply other then mine.

  • i dont care how many degrees your band director has alyou director can do is ponti you in the right direction and you do the rest

  • hm you actully knew all of the saxes i didnt even know of the subcontrabass or tubax

  • thats ur opinion

  • dude stop being a huge ass hole!

  • dude im not a dude so shut up and i am most certain u are wrong it is not a bass sax its a bari with a streatched out neck i have played one with the states best band derector and the reigons best so i happen to know

  • @TheMaddierox there are many types of saxs sopranino soprano alto tenor bari bass contrabass and tubax and essentially all saxophones are the same but ether have longer necks or longer body's as you can see in the two pictures at the beginning both bass saxes have different length necks but are essentially the same thing and hear is an analagy your band director might have 4 masters but most diatitions are obese also don't be afraid to admit you are wrong no one will think less of you

  • These are real bass-saxes! The bari is smaller, with a smaller loop in the top. Google for ´saxophone family´, you´ll see. There are even bigger contrabass-saxes.

  • yes we know that but there is no bass it doesnt matter the size of the neck

  • Why is it that no one can spell Saxophone?

  • idk :o

  • are all these guys idiots those are bass saxophones not bari or contra bass or sub contra bass but bass these guys should really back their info up before saying something is wrong

  • wtf ur wrong its not bass saxaphone its barritone and contra bass saxaphone wich is a heck of a lot bigger

  • Cool - is there an appreciable difference between the timbre of the Selmer and the Martin? In what way? I also want a bass!

  • The American basses in general have a somewhat deeper sound then the French. I have the feeling of the Selmer would blend nice in an sax ensemble. The American are somewhat more suited for playing bass lines.

  • i want a bass sax
