It was really great series. Adrian Paul was brilliant as Duncan 'Mac. I miss that era. My favorite tv shows were in the 90's - La Femme Nikita, The X Files, ER, Acapulco H.E.A.T., Walker Texas Ranger, RoboCop The Series, F/X, L.A. Heat, Spy Game, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, The Pretender, Babylon 5, Lexx, Earth Final Conflict, TekWar, Millennium, MK Conquest, Soldier of Fortune Inc, Dark Skies, Amazon, SeaQuest, Xena, Farscape, Baywatch, Renegade, Melrose Place...
I like how Duncan bows and twirls the sword at Richie after he nicks him in the arm.
--So this is what Richie has to look forward to if its only him and Duncan that are left to fight after all the immortals are gone. (If he was still alive during the series and movies) Ironically enough Richie still gets killed by Duncan later in the series...
I'm glad Richie didn't die here but I don't like how he was killed off and I hated how the series ended. I think it would have been better to end the series with the horsemen. Have them gang up and kill Richie or have Methos kill Richie as proof he was loyal. They could have strung that storyline on for an entire season.
@Hacksaw2k Actually I would of loved to have seen Richie beat one of the horsemen and they made a series about him. I mean the show ended because the main person that played Duncan was like okay I am done I want out.
I LOVE this fight scene. In retrospect it is a bit forshadowing of what happens at the end of season 5, but hey. If you have the DVD's watch the behind the scenes for this episode. By the time Stan and Adrian got to the final take, enough oops moments happened that apparently Adrian is a bit crazed.... one too many knocks in the head and knuckles by Stan, that's all I'm sayin'.
This ladies and gentlemen is the end result of The Dark Quickening. A Quickening that only happens on rare occasions when an Immortal takes in too many evil immortals to the point the darkness of all immortals that they killed consumes them and well, you see the end result here.
Kinda disappointed at the way Richie was killed off... The "Demon-deranged" Duncan was a cheap rip-off from his Dark Quickening self... much preferred another Richie vs Duncan swordfight scene...
" he he he its a good a reason as any " Duncan is the tightest shit as a bad guy they should have killed Richie off here, instead of the fucked up way in the other season he put up a fight here
That dark light quickining story arc isnt new and was even mentioned in the 1st season with Darius. One of Duncans close friends.Darius was a over 2000year old immortal. He was once one of the most powerful, ruthless and brutal immortal alive. But when he killed an ancient benevolent immortal, the oldest back then, the quickining changed him. With all the immense wisdom he absorbed,he came to realization and laid down his sword, swore off violence and became a monk. The quicking CAN work in both ways
@Jagticon that isnt a dark quickening that is a light quickening. and methos is the oldest and has been for a long time back then immortals didnt live long. they were killed of to fast. that is why duncun didnt believe methos was real because immortals died alot faster back then. it mentions in the show that the watchers were searching for methos for over 2000 years and when they started looking for him he was known as the legendary oldest immortal even 2000 years before that
I always thought that this was a bad story arc. How many really, really, really evil immortals had Duncan previously killed without becoming evil himself? Later on, he killed Kronos and didn't become evil again. Were the effects of the healing spring that Methos took him to earlier still in effect? The whole light/dark quickening thing seemed a bit ridiculous to me. What's the point of defeating another immortal if you're just going to become corrupted?
I think it was more of an "accumulation" of evil over the years that finally was triggered. Once the balance leaned more towards the dark, Duncan became evil. I thought it was a good story arc, but everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion and you gave some good points, but possibly the reason he did not go dark again after he later killed Kronos was that the balance was shifted back to the good, or light, after the healing spring enough for the Kronos quickening not to have turned him.
When Duncan is good, he fight with an edge to beat an opponent. But when he's evil, man he has an even greater edge to beat them with no mercy. Don't get on his bad side or you'll lose your head. Thanks for uploading.

It should've ended for Richie right here. At least, we got a few more good episodes with him in the 5th season before his demise.
