If I had to drive a 4 cylinder tuner car it would be an SVO stang!!! The R and D for that engine went on in the 70's and there are a lot of them on yt running 9.0x or faster. They are basically mod for mod just as fast if not faster than an evo, only rwd. AMS started building those things before they were known as evo tuners, since the SVO is a 2.3L engine that strokes out to 3.0L, just like evo's, the shop was tailor made for evo's after that.

Ive got a 79 firebird with a simple 327 sbc de-stroked to 302. It turns 8,500rpm and has 400whp N/A all for about 5k (including purchase price of the car). Most civics in decent shape are like 3k, so that leaves you with 2k worth of mods to try to get 400whp? LOL it cant do that with a turbo let alone all-motor. And you couldnt even come close to buying a supra, skyline, nsx, or any of the "quicker" imports for that price.

The SRT4 is about 2500-3000 LBS and has 325HP and 337TQ. 0-60 time may be faster for the V8 But the high end turbo in the SRT4 keeps the TQ band up. Making the quarter mile. in abou 12.2- 13.1 Sec.

If I had to drive a 4 cylinder tuner car it would be an SVO stang!!! The R and D for that engine went on in the 70's and there are a lot of them on yt running 9.0x or faster. They are basically mod for mod just as fast if not faster than an evo, only rwd. AMS started building those things before they were known as evo tuners, since the SVO is a 2.3L engine that strokes out to 3.0L, just like evo's, the shop was tailor made for evo's after that.

Ive got a 79 firebird with a simple 327 sbc de-stroked to 302. It turns 8,500rpm and has 400whp N/A all for about 5k (including purchase price of the car). Most civics in decent shape are like 3k, so that leaves you with 2k worth of mods to try to get 400whp? LOL it cant do that with a turbo let alone all-motor. And you couldnt even come close to buying a supra, skyline, nsx, or any of the "quicker" imports for that price.

1.) Supra, Evo, STI, VR4, and NSX do not get better gas Mileage than V8s. Hence, you'd have to drive a civic, GSX, or an MR2 to even mention MPG.
2.) Supra, EVO, STI, VR4 all way just as much pre-04 V8s.
3.) Anything can be modified so cut the bullshit about V8s can't handle.
In the end, the fact remains that import needs a turbo/sup to keep up(except 370z).
4.) What i do find funny is that the modern EVO/STI/370z have horrible 60-0 and a 4000lb challenger beats them at that.

The 1/4 mile is also captured by the stock ZR1 with an 11.2 compared to 11.28. But yet again, if the ZR1 had $16,700 of modifications the margain of victory would be wider.

Actually, like dead eye said, the ZR1 beat the GTR, and the GTR even had its nose out in front on the start both times and still lost, 1:21 isnt an opinion. Also ya ever notice a dragster before? I refer you to the point that the ZR1 beat the base spec GT-R. which in a quiet moment GM admitted that they designed it to beat. Whic it did....Just. American V8's are good, just not as good as a Jap Engine. In a line the V8's are good. but on 98 percent of roads all over the planet a AMcar just couldnt compete.

Look around you..everytime I hit the interstates across america, I see 80's-90's american built vehicles everywhere. But rarely do I see imports that old. Even the 18 wheelers are powered by american engines. Imports have no torque and are only good for women or old ladies. Look at toyotas recalls..now thats quality huh?
