  • Marlon Brando and Laurence Olivier. Do you need any other actors?

  • @darthkazden I need cary grant and jimmy stewart

  • @darthkazden

Well, either Orson Welles was "not bad". And, to say one, the young Mickey Rourke was in a league of his own.

    P.S. I love Brando.

  • The best actor that ever lived...

  • I love it how throughout all of Brando's movie's and public appearances, he still has the same adorable walk..everyone do the Brando Shuffle!!!

  • omg On the waterfront such great movie

  • have you ever seen such a pretty face like this?

  • @Nastieee1986 No.

  • WTG Marlon!! GREAT FUCKING JOB!!! I LOVE YOU!!

  • MARLON RULES!!!!!

  • The Oscar should be honoured to be received by him.

  • Holy crap! Bette Davis, Marlon Brando, and Bob Hope on one stage. Never again, folks.

  • Sorry, but Bette Davis looks something between a martian or a Hershey's Kiss in that get up.

  • @KiCreativeStudio : LMAO! You know I was trying to be nice but your comment was just too much for me to resist. I couldn't quite think of the right way of putting it but you described it on key. The funny thing is that I've seen actresses of that era wear the same kind of head attire and they didn't look bad. I believe Bette's hairline was too high and forehead was much too big to pull it off.

  • The book "Ultimate Book of Gangster Movies" notes this in their entry on "Waterfront" with "look up the clip to see Davis in an outfit that would make Lady Gaga jealous."

  • This was when Brando had some humility....they are all grateful at the beginning of their career, later they get arrogant and send phony Indians to the podium....

  • Humphrey Bogart at 1:09 onwards. I could spot him a mile away!

  • @JosephOunsworth great spot that one. Unfortunately he passed away 2 years latter :(

  • whose the space alien?

  • Sitting almost directly across Brando on the right side of the isle, is Humphrey Bogart who was nominated that night as best actor for The Caine Mutiny (and should have won). THAT is a true gentlemen, clapping even though he felt like he had been kicked in the face!

  • @AbridgedPause Thats common courtesy dipshit. I love Bogie, but there is not a chance in hell that his performance in "The Caine Mutiny" even touched Brandos in waterfront

  • That Oscar won a Brando!

  • aight mother of lady gaga

  • @Raks17 thats Betty Davis .. she was an amazing actress in her day

  • Lady gaga of the 50's

  • @Raks17 smart comment right there...

  • LMAO-- Even IF that was considered stylish back then, sitting on top of her head like that reminds me of those old spinning tops we played with as kids...LOL

  • I think Bette Davis was supposed to play E.T.'s mother, wait, when was E.T. released? :D

  • Now that's an oscar acceptance speech!

  • wtf with tinfoil on betty's head? was she abducted by aliens

  • i love bette davis but that outfit...she looks like a walking condomn :))))

    anyway bravo marlon brando!

  • wtf was betty davis wearing!!??

  • My God, Bette Davis looks like one of the Munchkins in that outfit.

  • god,the 50s was so cool

  • And the Academy Award for Best Brando goes to......

  • THE GREATEST ACTOR AND THE MOST HANDSOME MAN TO EVER WALK ON EARTH.

Just finished reading his book. What a man! <3 <3

  • Oscar speeches were so much shorter (and hence better) back then.

  • Betty Davis in Flash Gordon attire!

  • marlon brando deserved that oscar and many more is that bogie i see ??

  • Brando didn't even want to hug her or kiss her. What a boss!

  • He's so gorgeous! I miss the old hollywood, where you were an actor because you were actually talented! They were so classy then!

  • Pause at 0.36 hahaha nice video! I loved the Oscars back then!

  • 1955? Oh Lord! How long ago.....:)

  • I could have been a contender! Greatest monologue I've ever seen!

  • Now I know where they got the idea for the Coneheads...

  • Bette Davis in a Black and white version of Star Trek??

    who knew about this?

  • Screw the Oscars.

    Call them the Brandos.

  • Wow, acceptance speeches were a lot shorter back then

  • What planet is Bette Davis from?

  • the awards should be called "marlon brando"

  • Marlon Brando is every actor daddy.

  • Somebody should have told Bette Davis that auditions for E.T. won't be happening for another 26 years.

  • @AdArmand

    Lol!!!!!! That was too funny!!

  • The Original Lady Gaga

  • One of the greatest acting performances of all time!

  • bette looks line a munchkin.

  • best actor who ever lived, no more to be said

  • Just give him the trophy, Davis, damn

  • wow thats maaany years ago!!!!

  • He is married to a beautiful tahitian, just like me ;-)..looll

  • whats wrong with her teeth?

  • Bogie in the aisle seat.

  • Josh Lucas should play him if they ever do a movie or something.

  • What a bunch of pompous jackasses. At least Brando had a scheme, unlike these other j-azzes, who can't get past their own reflection in the mirror.

  • I loved Bette on Golden Girls.

  • @AceNinja2112 Hehe...good one.

  • I think she wore that little cap/hat because she was filming The Virgin Queen and her hair had been partially shaved for the Elizabethan wigs.

  • The humble Marlon is boring, Make him political, angry and sexy-fat!

  • He was so young back then. Great Job Brando!

  • lord if i was around in the 40's and 50's....he is so handsome!!! and i hate that word because it's so cheesy but goodness gracious!!

  • Greatest performance of all time, but did you see Humphrey Bogarts face. Such disappointment.

  • THE TIN FOIL IS SO ALIENS DON'T PROBE HER BRAIN

  • classy man;P

  • YOU DESERVED IT BUD...

  • Bette looks so cute and funny with that thing on her head.

  • she looks like the witch from snow white lol

  • Marlon Brando was one of the worst actors ever

  • @92af

    Bullshit

  • That was the one he famously used as a doorstop.

  • @razzaxxe I would do the same.

  • young Brando great !old Brando tragic w/sad kids

  • who were the nominees?

  • @Casarzino marlon brando, marlon brando, and marlon brando, he was nominated about 20 times that year but they couldn't fit all of his amazing fucking awesome ass performances into one category

  • This guy is the real fucking deal.

  • This guy is real fucking deal.

  • AHHHHH HES ADORABLE

  • Funny he didn't care about the Indians here !

  • Lol, Bette Davis is like a proud mom- "You were just great!"

  • Mellldelll!!! Humphrey Bogart ali sentado!!!!!

    aaaahahah

  • Mellldelll!!! Humphrey Bogart ali sentado!!!!!

    aaaahahahahah

  • Mellldelll!!! Humphrey Bogart ali sentado!!!!!!!!!!!

    aaaahahahahah

  • damm marlon was even cooler in life than he was on screen.

  • he was the most handsome man to walk the earth.

    he was so sweet.

    i love him.

  • I didn't know Bette Davis was an alien.

  • I didn't know Bette Davis was a martian.

  • This should have been Marlon Brando's second Oscar. The first should have been for "A Streetcar named Desire".

I mean it's nice that they finally rewarded Bogart with "African Queen" but come on. No way it was better than "Casablanca" or "Maltese Falcon". THOSE were the films Bogie should have won for.

  • @Lamporre

i agree, Marlon was nominated for an Oscar four times in a row.

    in : a streetcar named desire 1951,

viva zapata 1952 , julius caezar 1953,on the waterfront 1954,

He was deserves all the time. And Bogart was very bad compared to Marlon.

  • back then, before people became sensitive pussies, you had to fucking run up there to get your award or they won't give it to you

  • best ever...brando

  • hey got up pretty quick! almost as if he knew.........

  • Sweet jog Marlon.

  • alien

  • The Golden Age of Hollywood.

  • What the fuck is Betty wearing.?????!!!! :)

  • FUCK Marlon brando

  • Comment removed

  • Brando was bigger than the Oscars which the last couple decades have proven. The Academy wouldn't give Brando the Lifetime Achievement award unless he showed up to receive it.

  • Betty is wearing funny hat because she promoted condoms, like Marlon Brando promoted Indians.

  • 1950s fashion was funny.

  • I'll bet gay rods love watching him stroke that trophy so well.

  • @TheWhistlingCysts, They must justify the billions that are going around in the movie industry, right?

  • all i know is Don Corleone no one else

    i cant even recognise him

  • Oh my gosh, Humphrey Bogart at 1:11! There must be a whole gathering of dead film royalty sitting in that audience.

  • cant see california without brandon marlos eyes

  • damn before the godfather haha

  • Wow!! His voice must have deepened as the years passed b/c his voice is kinda high pitched, isn't it? Just a little?

  • 17 years later, he doesn't thank the Academy, he doesn't even accept the award.

  • @nick33304

Because Hollywood did not respect the Indians

Civil rights is more important than Oscar

    and

MARLON BRANDO IS GREATER THAN THE OSCARS .

  • @ahmad201020111 Marlon Brando was a QUEER!!!

  • @ahmad201020111 If you're keen on civil rights you'd call them the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas not "Indians."

  • @TheNoirNoir the indians = Indigenous Peoples

i mean the Indigenous Peoples are the american indians

    Where is the difference??

  • @TheNoirNoir Naw. I'll stick with the British description of "Red Indians," because it's funniest.

  • @nick33304 because 17 years later he sees what accepting the award means, excepting the fact that people are being hurt.

    I <3 Brando

  • Is this the Jetsons!? What's on her head!!??

  • I really think he held back what he wanted to say here, I don't know what it was but I doubt it was as gracious. We see the real brando in the 1970's.

  • Bette Davis looks like a Babylonian monk!

  • the perfect speech. very humble and respectful without throwing out an annoying list of names

  • @TheWhistlingCysts I know right - I love the simplicity compared with the awful commercialism of the current Oscars. Turning it into a ridiculous spectacle just reduces the integrity of celebrating the wonderful talent and extraordinary performances of those involved in the cinematic craftsmanship of that year.

  • Is she going swimming later?

  • Contrast this with his self-indulgent, self-important, pedantic rant of a no-show when he exploited a Native American to self-aggrandize and self-fellate himself when he won for The Godfather. He was so much better when he was "just an actor". Instead he got completely full of his own perceived importance and decided to become a self-centered pig of a human. What a waste of talent. Hey Marlon...rest in peace..and I loved your girdle in Superman.

  • @Halgrim Are you speaking from experience...? Kinda bitter there, dude.

  • Somehow, for me, when Brando won the Oscar, that was the end of one era of movies (the so-called "Golden era") and the start of a new era. Not that he wasn't a part of the Golden Era, but it just seemed like a new generation had taken over from Bing and Bogie and all those.

  • The Greatest Best Actor Oscar Winners of All Time: 1. Daniel Day-Lewis, There Will Be Blood (2007) 2. Dustin Hoffman, Rain Man (1988) 3. Robert De Niro, Raging Bull (1980) 4. Marlon Brando, The Godfather (1972) 5. Anthony Hopkins, The Silence of the Lambs (1991) 6. Ben Kingsley, Gandhi (1982) 7. Marlon Brando, On the Waterfront (1954) 8. Philip Seymour Hoffman, Capote (2005) 9. Tom Hanks, Forrest Gump (1994) 10. Jack Nicholson, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)
  • that's a good observation you have there but I wouldnt number them from 1 to 10 ...

  • love how he ran onto the stagee! lol

  • MAN HE WAS A LEGEND!

  • Promotion for "Coneheads"?

  • @smok3nspade18...hahaha..

  • aliens awarded Brando..

  • @Archivioinutile Best comment ever!

  • shes so ugly

  • it sounds like she says:

"What actor has won the Oscar for the best performance... of this shit" lol

  • marlon brando jerking off his oscar

  • @thasnaps Dude. It cracks me up that you noticed that.

  • he was so gorgeous back then,..he's one of the best..

  • he was so gorgeous back then,..he's one of the best..<3

  • He was still well-behaved then

  • @jasper2008ify LG is not talented, it's an insult to the great and late Bette D to say that

  • marlon brando <3

  • wtf is on her head?!

  • I love Marlon Brando... he was a very great actor ♥♥♥

  • TRUST IN JESUS CHRIST! JESUS IS THE ONLY WAY TO HEAVEN!

  • @jasper2008ify not at all - she was classy, Lady Gaga is not.

  • HAHAHAHA.... is Betty wearing aluminium foil as a head dress?!?!?....hahahahaha

  • dam brando was cool back then. amazing to see how fame and success changed him as he got older.

  • @jasper2008ify lol, it did fell like I knew her :))

  • possibly the best actor of the last century

  • Sweet jog Marlon.

  • @iliketacos27 isn't it? I have always thought that when I have seen Marlon running, he looks really sweet.

  • people that comment twice in a row without deleting the first (presumably less desirable comment) are moronic.

  • Nice hat, Ms. Davis <3

  • That hat is cool that Betty is wearing

  • "Well when they told me i was gone to the oscars I gave them an offer they couldn't refuse"

  • Betty is wearing a funny hat because it was the year she played Queen Elizabeth, and they made her shave her head.

  • @axecalibore Thank you for clearing that up. It looks elfin and I wondered why she'd wear something like that in the glorious 50s!

  • @axecalibore she could have a worn a more stylish hat

  • @Stefandurr It's a tragedy that even on such a classic and classy video such as this, the top rated comment is included the words "I hope you get fucked by a bear". Shame.

  • He looked happy and grateful but, I guess he lost the joy of acting...

It would've been great to see him receiving his Academy Award in 1973, that is one of the best performances in the history of cinema, if not, the best.

  • Betty has a condom on her head.

  • Betty has a prophylactic on her head.

  • I wonder if they had the SAG awards at that time if Brando would have won ?

  • pure class

  • They used to jog up there?

  • brando rocks \mm/

  • wtf is she wearing? lol
