Paul, I agree wholeheartedly about the destruction of the living planet, but I think we must lose the idea that humans are responsible. Humans are not a blight on the planet. Humans are not creating the devastation. Civilization is, or at least what is happening is systemic. Consider that the concept of discrete entities is contrived, including the concept of agency. The earth is an infinite, unbroken flood of cosmic causality. In that sense civilization is not human activity.
cut down the economic system that rules the fact that we cannot handle to our natural ways, legalize everything, every being thinking for themselve will use by his needs, this is a war against ''the man'' we cannot win... and actualy the world will save itselve by adapting to the mass 'dirt' we produce , law of entropy
The rate-of-rise is what is alarming. This is not a linear trend, but an accelerating curve. See
"Alarming Acceleration In Carbon Dioxide Emissions Worldwide
ScienceDaily (May 21, 2007) — Between 2000 and 2004, worldwide CO2 emissions increased at a rate that is over three times the rate during the 1990s—the rate increased from 1.1 % per year during the 1990s to 3.1% per year in the early 2000s"
@paulstamets So, I guess you're also saying that the trees aren't that hungry and the many millions of people that are populating the Earth don't need the oxygen in return? I'm thinking this whole thing might not be as big a problem as it is made out to be. What am I missing?
Paul - I need to clarify something. @ 2:08 you stated we are at 385 ppm CO2 and this is up from 20 years ago, when it was 365. Ok, That's one ppm per year average. Then, you mentioned the number 1200 as a point when asthmatics would have difficulty breathing. Do you realize that at the rate you've described this event will take place 815 years from now?

Paul is so on the button, mycelium and in particular mycorrhizas are a hugely overlooked part of the earth as an organism. Us humans need to interact more honestly and directly with nature, to continue our evolution, otherwise we are ******
Some religions, eg Genesis 1:28 have been misconstrued to encourage humanities separation from nature, this is the equal to pushing the self destruct button!

Can we put them in our landfills and make a difference? This would be a simple thing that all of could do! Just put the fungi kit in the garbage.

@DreamingTurtle
You're thinking in linear terms. The curve is an exponential one.
