Also, these were probably for sale as pets...cats have little edible meat on them to begin with, so dealers usually let them get a bit bigger before they are sold to restaurants or breeding farms.

only your own western ethnocentrism says that they're not "meant to be eaten." In southeast Asia cats have been a food source, like dogs, for centuries. We do equivalent things to pigs, chickens, cows, and turkeys. Do they deserve it more? You're just hypocritically pissed because they're doing it to something cute and fuzzy, get over it already.

idk, why don't you look it up? All I know is (from living in China) that cat has been a traditionally accepted, edible meat and has played role in Chinese medicine. As weird as it is, they believe giving the cat a painful, torturous death results in better meat and a release of the meats healing/aphrodisiac qualities. I like cats, but I accept the way things are over there bc they're not going to change bc we say it's bad. Duh.

@jerrynog That's where you're wrong. Change will not happen because westerners command it, but because successive generations of Chinese are becoming more receptive to new ideas. Even now there is a burgeoning animal rights movement in China. Eating cat and dog is no longer as socially acceptable. If change occurs, it will have to come from within.

Also, these were probably for sale as pets...cats have little edible meat on them to begin with, so dealers usually let them get a bit bigger before they are sold to restaurants or breeding farms.

@BIGGESTxxEMINEMxxFAN I dont support animal cruelty, but eating cats (not how there treated or killed but just eating them) isn't wrong, all animals and killed and cooked. Its hypocritical to say otherwise.
For example pigs are much smarter and cleaner then cats, its been proven they are as smart as 3yr old children but they still get eaten. And some farms treat animals like chickens badly but i dont see people fussing over them.

But you have to consider the economy of china, and the food source. How hard would it be to set up farms, and as you see there are so many cats.

I see your point on why a cat is no different from a cow or other animal , BUT 99% of the time the animal is boiled , tortured etc. before it dies .. these things are NoT as bad with other farmed animals .. the human race is a terrible race , we farm animals to eat and carnt even treat them with respect and care ..

I agree that the way the cats are killed is cruel. But if thats the culture's way, whose to stop them? Not half as many people would care if it was, say, cows, and not fluffy little kitties. Plus, these cats probably aren't even going to be food.

That is so not True. I'm Thai, and not one thing in my culture, says anything about eating cats and dogs. There are so many stray dogs and cats here, but even poor homeless people do not eat them, instead they beg. I feel offense at your stereotypical representation of Asia. I'm disgusted.
