Eric, Thank you for your comment. It makes me happy to see that people appreciate Gracinha's wonderful vocals' I'm always happy to hear from other musicians. thank you for the compliment.
Gracinha Leporace is THE VOICE of romantic Latin-American jazz. Great music as usual from Sergio Mendes. Thank you Giacaterino for uploading this video. My compliments to you as a great musician...from one electric jazz bass player to another.
Thanks for this unique material! Very nice playing on Magic Lady, where you're playing a different arrangement from the album version. I always found that album arrangement an incredible tour de force, with the strings and the percussion and the piano all blending in so well, and the saxophone soaring on top of it all. That must have been a great experience. (Too bad it cannot be posted on YouTube...)
No, the girl in black is the Brazilian singer Gracinha Leporace, Sergio Mendes' wife. Lani Hall left the SM&B66 group in 1971 to pursue a solo career.
I ALWAYZ HEARD THE FEMALE SINGERS.....BUT NOW THEY MADE THE PERFECT MIX OF THE AMERICAN STYLE WITH THE BRAZILIAN....... WITH THE SERGIO STYLE.....WOW WHAT A TUNE!!!!!
Sergio Mendes is the greatest piano player of all time. He started in classical music at the Musical Conservatory in Niteroi, Brasil, where his father was a doctor. (Imagine him walking along the beach in Niteroi watching sailboats in the afternoon sun on the way to his piano lessons.)
Then he started studying jazz, and by the time he settled in California he had absorbed all these influences. The result was Brasil '66 and this great piano playing. Check out the piano solo from 6:50 to 7:20.
Back when TV was classy! Thank you for the uploads! You guys were the best!
