If this amendment passed, and I was a teacher, and some student tried to use it as an excuse not to learn evolution, I'd say, "You know, before the 1950's, it was generally accepted in Christian circles that evolution was God's method of creation. Then the Fundamentalists came along and misinterpreted the Bible. It's not against your religion. Do the assignment or get a 0."
Although Im against this whole thing its kind of pointless, its not like fundie Christian students are even going to give evolution a thought.
"I ain't come from no monkey" will be their answer against evolution no matter how much we try to explain that evolution doesn't say we came from a monkey.
Parents who care about giving their kids a religious education would home school or private school anyway, so who cares? Why do you care what they do? They aren't changing the curriculum or anything like that. I'm more concerned about corporal punishment still being used. There are way bigger things to get upset about than this. I live in MIssouri and am an Atheist and an Anarchist. I will NOT be sending my kids to public school regardless.
Good...they have a right to. Its freedom of religion...and you dont think there isnt some alternative assigment for believers? dude, u dont respect anyone's rights when it comes to believing in a higher power....you just dont....youre a fool and youre completely unpatriotic,,,,...the reality is NO laws can be made for one side or the other......gwt your head out of your ass and RESPECT people's RIGHTS
@misterwobblehead You forget that, like all other sciences, Evolution and Biology are backed by empirical evidence and peer reviewed scientific documents. What you have to understand is that in a PUBLIC EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM there is a standard for learning that must be met. Since evolutionary biology is recognized as a genuine science, it is a requirement for students to learn. This new law will affect college-bound students as well as public school standards ratings.
This makes no sense since evolution taught in science class has no religious connotations behind it. Therefore, it does not violate anybody's religious beliefs, and nobody should be complaining that it violates any of their personal religious beliefs.
This could be science in general for some, even courses on logical thinking, physics etc... could all fall under this absurd nonsense. Even courses that cover literature which might be objectionable on a religious basis could fall under this general statement.
