I rarely buy games because they are often too expensive for what they are. But I think I'll buy this one.
Except a few things they need to fix, like the Ultralisks kind of shaking when looking for somewhere to go, or the Mothership having a tiny explosion when destroyed, it just looks awesome. I bet the campaign will be awesome too.

Levitation and cliff jumping are added to make new and interesting mechanics. This is SC2, not SC 1.5. If you don't like it, stay with Brood War. Just because it's new doesn't automatically make it imbalanced. The game isn't even in beta - give it time and see if it works. They're new, interesting ideas that can definitely enhance the game.
Actually, it does. In SC1, to enter enemy high ground you had to breach the ramp or air drop both with risk of suffering heavy damage. This is the high ground advantage..
In SC2, they messed this up with collosus and reapers. And zerg don't have a unit that can jump up high ground. Totally unfair and imbalanced ... destroys high ground advantage and disadvantages the zerg. You can't say it doesn't because it obviously does.

They need to fix the unit sizes. Mutas look waaay too small like a sparrow in SC2. In SC1 Mutas looked much more menacing. Ultras are kinda too big. Hellions too tiny.
They need to size the units like in SC1 so they are more easily controllable. If they don't its going to be a huge macro-craporama. That's what I hated about other rtses like Age of the Empire, Total Annilhilation, CC--all one big macro-barfarama.
We want micro specific control over 1 unit vs another. Not Macro-sodomyarama.
You obviously haven't played SC a lot. SC is a HUGE macro game. The difference between SC and other games is that there's BOTH macro and micro, and it's lookin' to be the same in SC2.

In SC1, you had the option of early micro or mid/late game macro.
In SC2, with overlapping units and super small units all blended with buildings, background and weather effects, it's damn impossible to win a game by micro-ing. With super yellow minerals, SC2 is designed to by a macro-poo-erama.
You obviously play too many unlimited mineral maps to care about the beauty of micro in normal maps in SC1. FYI, mucho money maps are for newbies, not pros.
Don't comment on shit you don't know. If you'll watch any of the BR's (mediocre players playing, not even pro's), you'll see plenty of micro there. Also, games are won and lost with micro. Once the game gets to mid/late game, if you don't micro, you suck. I don't care if the battle get big, the pro's still micro plenty. And no, just because Zerg doesn't have a cliff jumper doesn't make it imbalanced. They still have transports and air. You haven't played it, so don't criticize what you dont know
Every single Battle Report is staged from top to bottom you fucking tool. All the supposed "micro" u see there is for show. So neither of you can tell whether the games enviorment will turn out micro rich or micro poor - that needs the people to play and test. Besides that as I've said SC2 micro will feek different as it's no longer creative, you will simplu use and micro units as Blizz intends ppl to.
its actually not staged. I think it would be more complicated to stage a simple game like that then to actually have a couple of people play some games, pick out the good ones, write some commentary, and release it.
ur last point is valid, but again, these are baby steps that blizzard is giving us. good players will be able to create their own strategies and strategies against such expected micros will wear them out.
It MIGHT NOT be entirely staged, but at least Blizzard will tell them what units to make in each specific battle reports. I won't be surprised if they were even told what strategies to use, The goal of the report is to showcase their progress. Each battle reports features different units, and has good dramatic timing for the information to be delivered to the audience. Solely belief of my own.
The Zerg can send their forces into Nydus buildings (I cannot remember what was the real words to describe them), and use Nydus Worms to transport their units into dangerous hot spots that their Overlords can't do, they can create Infested Terran Marines anywhere (as long as you reveal the areas in the fog of war of course) to crush their enemies, they Queens to support their actions, and they have more than meets the eye! You're truly right, they don't need cliff jumpers, why would they anyway!

Dustin Browder - the lead SC2 designer is responsible for at least 2 C&C games - thats his previous work experience. So yea it has a lot to do with whats going on. Why do you think they removed the unit grouping limit ? Now every nb with no skill wont have problems with moving a large army around therefore making long training less rewarding.

Every oppinion here is based on experience - if not with just SC then with a lot of other RTS games. Blizz isnt going for a breakthrough with SC2 - things like unlimited grouping capacity have been done before in every C&C for example - and it failed, people still chose SC coz they like the challenge in controlling a large army - a group limit makes it resemble real warfare where its difficoult to issue commands to multiple army groups making them advance simultaneously. Its a step back.
How can you micro against units anymore??? It's like every control group masses up together and overlap each other in a blob. The hellions moves too fast and too wierd (like it moves faster than its wheels are moving ... well that's what it looks like). Can't Browder get anything right? If someone assasinates Browder, will good things happen?
I dunno, all the sound effects are rather shitty, they sound like little action figures firing at each other. The whole look is so cartoonish, and the movement of the units is really unnatural.

in sc2 everything is too smooth, the zealots move and attack like dancers and their blades look like torches. they dont have the fierce appearance of sc1. yeah many units in sc2 are too smooth.
this lack of effects that make the world feel physical and athmospheric i noticed in diablo2 as well (diablo1 was super atmospheric).
SC seems to be following the same pattern as Diablo, even tough D2 was a much more sophisticated game it felt artificial, it lacked the atmosphere of the original - and if you look at the design - D1 items, both normal and unique look far better than their D2 counterparts. Same for SC design unfortunetly. Thats why many ppl agree that even tough Blizz is producing shiny awesome looking games its not what it used to be.
I actually think the new style suits the Protoss very well, and though Zealots are driven by rage, their fighting is still refined. But as for being smooth, I agree when it comes to the Terrans; the structures looked rugged and worn in SC. But now they look like Lego.
the overall suckage of sc2 is its lack of coolness and how could i say...
well in sc1 the units have more impact on your senses. the zealots rise their blades for attack and every swing makes you trembel in fear as a zerg player cause you know they are ripping apart your poor zerglings. so protoss players can be impressed by the mere sound of tanks going into siege mode and the following blue goon-liquid running over the battlefield.
Blizzard sucks. I'll bet this game is going to undergo perpetual tweaking month after month to try and fucking balance it just like they do with WoW. Blizzard as a company are not making balanced games anymore.
Vespene geysers suck ass as well - they are so symetrical now they look artificial. Since they're so into graphics and diversity it seems strange that they wont do like 3 - 4 different types of vespene "volcanos" to make it look better. Also the 2 geysers per main and 6 workers start is a bit lame - will push the game more into tech and exping making all the sweet little all ins and micro strats obsolete. :<
Thats what made buildings easily distinguishible in SC - all the production facilities are bigger then tech buildings - makes them easy to find and click on. SC2 Gateway is way to small at least at its base.
Also i don't know how you ppl feel about buildings but after awesome designs like the chatchery nex core pylon etc. they cam up with fucking spine crawlers ? I mean wtf is that ? And also gateways feel a little too small like they dissapear amidst all the tech buildings. Tech buildings look awesome and they're fine being smaller - but your main unit producing facilities should look like they can warp in things as big as a house.
Another couple of things - rine rifle sound is ridicolous. Zealot attack animation sucks - the SC1 was better - made you feel they dig in. Jim Raynor is no longer Jim Raynor - in know some ppl will say yeah he could have grew a beard but still doesnt feel like Jimmy at all. Kerrigan has fucking braided hair - so im asuming shes a gangbanger now, and Zeratuls fight was awesome untill that bullet time action - srsly bullet time is corny, SC action doesnt need that to be awesome.
I agree on the graphicly polluted enviroment - ppl have raised that issue ever since the early developement but Blizz apparently doesnt give a shit. Srsly like wtf does every protoss unit have to shoot a shiny bright projectile thats followed by a mile long equally shiny trace of it that covers everything ? As soon as protoss units start shooting its viva las vegas baby.
why should the overlord not fly? the zerg are not completely analysed yet by terran scientists. the overlord could have some kind of gas inside his belly that makes him float like a balloon. his tentacles could be used to supply food to the zerg beneath him for instance, or to grab them for transport.
there are loads of possibilities for a flying octopus i think :) just activate your imagination
its not about activating your imagination - everybody heres got one. Its about whats corny or not - and flying octopuses are not fucking cool at all dude regardless of what makes them fly. For me they could dance can-can and they'd still be useless as a SC concept.
hm, i play sc since 1998 and i never thought they would be out of the sc-concept. the unit design has always been strange. goons look like spiders for example, that was strange for me in the beginning. but i think this is sci-fi. it is part of an alien race to look odd, thats why they are alien.

I rarely buy games because they are often too expensive for what they are. But I think I'll buy this one.
Except a few things they need to fix, like the Ultralisks kind of shaking when looking for somewhere to go, or the Mothership having a tiny explosion when destroyed, it just looks awesome. I bet the campaign will be awesome too.

Graphics wise though, it's a majour improvement compared to early SC 2 vidoes.

OMG, Why are air units levitating ground units??! That is the dumbest idea eva! They need to take out these dumb ideas. Seriously!
It's like why have long range air siege units like Carrier, Guardian (I mean Broodgaylord), Battlecruisers ... if you can just do something stupid like levitate ground units. It's like 1 dumb idea destroying multiple good ideas.
Also, why can collosus walk onto to high ground and reapers too ... too imbalanced. Makes high ground useless. Dumb ideas need to go.

Levitation and cliff jumping are added to make new and interesting mechanics. This is SC2, not SC 1.5. If you don't like it, stay with Brood War. Just because it's new doesn't automatically make it imbalanced. The game isn't even in beta - give it time and see if it works. They're new, interesting ideas that can definitely enhance the game.

Actually, it does. In SC1, to enter enemy high ground you had to breach the ramp or air drop both with risk of suffering heavy damage. This is the high ground advantage..
In SC2, they messed this up with collosus and reapers. And zerg don't have a unit that can jump up high ground. Totally unfair and imbalanced ... destroys high ground advantage and disadvantages the zerg. You can't say it doesn't because it obviously does.
Browder was so hyped about reapers that he will never take them out

They need to fix the unit sizes. Mutas look waaay too small like a sparrow in SC2. In SC1 Mutas looked much more menacing. Ultras are kinda too big. Hellions too tiny.
They need to size the units like in SC1 so they are more easily controllable. If they don't its going to be a huge macro-craporama. That's what I hated about other rtses like Age of the Empire, Total Annilhilation, CC--all one big macro-barfarama.
We want micro specific control over 1 unit vs another. Not Macro-sodomyarama.

In SC1, you had the option of early micro or mid/late game macro.
In SC2, with overlapping units and super small units all blended with buildings, background and weather effects, it's damn impossible to win a game by micro-ing. With super yellow minerals, SC2 is designed to by a macro-poo-erama.
You obviously play too many unlimited mineral maps to care about the beauty of micro in normal maps in SC1. FYI, mucho money maps are for newbies, not pros.

Don't comment on shit you don't know. If you'll watch any of the BR's (mediocre players playing, not even pro's), you'll see plenty of micro there. Also, games are won and lost with micro. Once the game gets to mid/late game, if you don't micro, you suck. I don't care if the battle get big, the pro's still micro plenty. And no, just because Zerg doesn't have a cliff jumper doesn't make it imbalanced. They still have transports and air. You haven't played it, so don't criticize what you dont know

So neither of you can tell whether the games enviorment will turn out micro rich or micro poor - that needs the people to play and test. its actually not staged. I think it would be more complicated to stage a simple game like that then to actually have a couple of people play some games, pick out the good ones, write some commentary, and release it.
ur last point is valid, but again, these are baby steps that blizzard is giving us. good players will be able to create their own strategies and strategies against such expected micros will wear them out.

It MIGHT NOT be entirely staged, but at least Blizzard will tell them what units to make in each specific battle reports. I won't be surprised if they were even told what strategies to use, The goal of the report is to showcase their progress. Each battle reports features different units, and has good dramatic timing for the information to be delivered to the audience. Solely belief of my own.

The Zerg can send their forces into Nydus buildings (I cannot remember what was the real words to describe them), and use Nydus Worms to transport their units into dangerous hot spots that their Overlords can't do, they can create Infested Terran Marines anywhere (as long as you reveal the areas in the fog of war of course) to crush their enemies, they Queens to support their actions, and they have more than meets the eye! You're truly right, they don't need cliff jumpers, why would they anyway!

Dustin Browder - the lead SC2 designer is responsible for at least 2 C&C games - thats his previous work experience. So yea it has a lot to do with whats going on. Every oppinion here is based on experience - if not with just SC then with a lot of other RTS games. Blizz isnt going for a breakthrough with SC2 - things like unlimited grouping capacity have been done before in every C&C for example - and it failed, people still chose SC coz they like the challenge in controlling a large army - a group limit makes it resemble real warfare where its difficoult to issue commands to multiple army groups making them advance simultaneously. Its a step back.

in sc2 everything is too smooth, the zealots move and attack like dancers and their blades look like torches. they dont have the fierce appearance of sc1. yeah many units in sc2 are too smooth.
this lack of effects that make the world feel physical and athmospheric i noticed in diablo2 as well (diablo1 was super atmospheric).

SC seems to be following the same pattern as Diablo, even tough D2 was a much more sophisticated game it felt artificial, it lacked the atmosphere of the original - and if you look at the design - D1 items, both normal and unique look far better than their D2 counterparts. Same for SC design unfortunetly. Thats why many ppl agree that even tough Blizz is producing shiny awesome looking games its not what it used to be.

I actually think the new style suits the Protoss very well, and though Zealots are driven by rage, their fighting is still refined. But as for being smooth, I agree when it comes to the Terrans; the structures looked rugged and worn in SC. But now they look like Lego.

well in sc1 the units have more impact on your senses. the zealots rise their blades for attack and every swing makes you trembel in fear as a zerg player cause you know they are ripping apart your poor zerglings. so protoss players can be impressed by the mere sound of tanks going into siege mode and the following blue goon-liquid running over the battlefield.

Blizzard sucks. I'll bet this game is going to undergo perpetual tweaking month after month to try and fucking balance it just like they do with WoW. Blizzard as a company are not making balanced games anymore.

Vespene geysers suck ass as well - they are so symetrical now they look artificial. Since they're so into graphics and diversity it seems strange that they wont do like 3 - 4 different types of vespene "volcanos" to make it look better. Also the 2 geysers per main and 6 workers start is a bit lame - will push the game more into tech and exping making all the sweet little all ins and micro strats obsolete. :<

Thats what made buildings easily distinguishible in SC - all the production facilities are bigger then tech buildings - makes them easy to find and click on. SC2 Gateway is way to small at least at its base.

Also i don't know how you ppl feel about buildings but after awesome designs like the chatchery nex core pylon etc. they cam up with fucking spine crawlers ? I mean wtf is that ? And also gateways feel a little too small like they dissapear amidst all the tech buildings. Tech buildings look awesome and they're fine being smaller - but your main unit producing facilities should look like they can warp in things as big as a house.

Another couple of things - rine rifle sound is ridicolous. Zealot attack animation sucks - the SC1 was better - made you feel they dig in. Jim Raynor is no longer Jim Raynor - in know some ppl will say yeah he could have grew a beard but still doesnt feel like Jimmy at all. Kerrigan has fucking braided hair - so im asuming shes a gangbanger now, and Zeratuls fight was awesome untill that bullet time action - srsly bullet time is corny, SC action doesnt need that to be awesome.

I agree on the graphicly polluted enviroment - ppl have raised that issue ever since the early developement but Blizz apparently doesnt give a shit. Srsly like wtf does every protoss unit have to shoot a shiny bright projectile thats followed by a mile long equally shiny trace of it that covers everything ? As soon as protoss units start shooting its viva las vegas baby.

Too many fireworks and all units LITERALLY get hidden inside it.
Do you need to target a specific enemy unit? Good luck finding it...

why should the overlord not fly? the zerg are not completely analysed yet by terran scientists. the overlord could have some kind of gas inside his belly that makes him float like a balloon. his tentacles could be used to supply food to the zerg beneath him for instance, or to grab them for transport.
there are loads of possibilities for a flying octopus i think :) just activate your imagination

its not about activating your imagination - everybody heres got one. Its about whats corny or not - and flying octopuses are not fucking cool at all dude regardless of what makes them fly. For me they could dance can-can and they'd still be useless as a SC concept.

hm, i play sc since 1998 and i never thought they would be out of the sc-concept. the unit design has always been strange. goons look like spiders for example, that was strange for me in the beginning. but i think this is sci-fi. it is part of an alien race to look odd, thats why they are alien.
okay its all a matter of taste.
but do you have an alternative design for the overlord? that would really interest me.
a point i fully agree is: sc1 was better!

Gawd, everytime I see the flying octopus and the spider like blinkers it just seems so out of place for a futuristic based rts. These characters look like they belong in Diablo 3 or WC3.
SC universe is supposed to make sense. How can an octopus with wiggly legs FLY??!! JEEEZ-LOUISE!
