LXDE or XFCE are both light weight. I have to mention though, I lost Compiz in LXDE, which is a bit irritating, and I also lost the search-field in the menu-bar of Mint Menu.
I think Compiz can run on XFCE, but I do not really like XFCE. Somehow it feels not user friendly.
@MsPwain Yes, XFCE can not make console interface obsolete. With KDE and GNOME you can live without terminal. And "lightweightness" of XFCE is something to be questioned cause it does not consume much less, yet cuts on features that are usefull.

Hey I think your great at what you do. Don't let the negative crap some people say. I do agree it is sometimes hard to understand you i may have to watch a video over. Maybe try your own captions it'll make it easier for users to understand & its great for seo.
@iliescosmin It's not Tom's fault that he suffers cerebral palsy and can't speak more clearly. This doesn't make his tutorial less useful or enlightening, and this doesn't mean that it shouldn't have been made at all. Those that have difficulties understanding him (poor English, hearing impairment or whatever) will just need to find another way to learn, that's all. If you understand OK, then don't complain and enjoy Tom's vids. They're really great.
