  • Still Babs for me!

  • Just compared this version with Barbara's 1975 'Funny Girl' performance. Barbara can hit higher notes, but otherwise it's all Linda. More control, more power, more precision. When do you breathe, girl? Barbara is a Linda wannabe.

  • Check out IF I HAD MY WAY BY LINDA EDER AT YOU TUBE. DONT RAIN ON MY PARADE

BY LINDA EDER IS FLAWLESS.NO ONE CAN SING IT LIKE HER.LEA MICHELE VERSION

    IS NOT GOOD.

  • nine people have had their parades rained on

  • This video by Linda Eder was from her concert at Mohegan Sun Arena November 2011.

Its on the dvd Christmas Stays The Same. Please check out IF I HAD MY WAY BY LINDA

EDER at you tube. Please check out other you tube videos by Linda Eder.

  • She may not be a Barbara wanna be but her voice sounds JUST LIKE HERS!! INCREDIBLE CONTROL, that final note was over the top!!! Kudos Ms. Eder!

  • By far the best version , but barbara and lea had more emotions . If not linda would have owned lea :D

  • THIS SONG IS ON LINDA EDERS BROADWAY MY WAY CD.

  • Breathe! Woman! Breathe!

  • Her and Barbara are neck and neck with this song...its just Barbara acts its better

  • she's the only one of the theatre chicks who can sing this..it completely swallows Lea Michele, Sutton Foster, and Idina Menzel

  • She sings the big notes of this the strongest of anybody I've EVER heard, including barbra. But Barbra and Leah Michele act the song more fully, which is what gives the number its electric effect.

  • WOW!

  • Her breath control is ridiculous! Dang!

  • She does a better attempt than Lea Michele by far. Lea's voice is way too thin, and Linda's is rich. That's the kind of voice you need to belt out a Streisand song.

  • woah....

  • Holy crap. She blows everyone out of the water. No contest.

  • She belted in full chest for 21 seconds! The woman is amazing.

  • I can't really even process this . . . . I just find myself weeping . . . WHO SINGS LIKE THIS??

  • She and Frank Wildhorn are a match made in heaven - Her voice, his songs. YouTube has done a great job listing many of her songs - but there is another absolutely beautiful one missing - the title is LET HIM FLY. I've seen another song with the same title, but not his melody. Linda's is about a mother and son and you could just imagine, with her voice and heart, what it sounds like. PLEASE YOUTUBE - ADD THIS ONE.. I CAN ASSURE YOU LOTS OF HITS!!

  • Lea Michele's version shows a thin voice.... This particular song requires a much bigger voice - such as Linda Eder's...... And Linda Eder's version shows how marvelous her technique and phrasing is.... This is the best I've heard this song sung....

  • @cocoagirl61660 I don't think Lea Michelle has a thin voice. She just is the Barb wannabe that Linda talks about and she's young.

  • 9 people are clearly deaf

  • NEVER SMILED SO MUCH WHEN WATCHING A YOUTUBE VIDEO!!!

  • No beats Linda Eder. EVER. No one on Glee can compare, no one can. She is the greatest that ever lived.

  • This performance was held at the Mohegan Sun Arena,CT. in 2004 and divorced her husband-composer, Frank Wildhorn the same year.

  • Saw her in concert twice, at the Greek theater in L.A., and at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano ca. True, she's not a household name and very underrated, but this dynamic performer has a voice they can accelerate from 0-60 in no time at all.

  • How could ANYONE think that Lea Michelle's version of this song is better than Linda Eder's? Can they not tell a good, powerful version from one that, well, isn't quite so? Linda's isn't perfect, but it is far superior to Lea's nasally version. Linda's a Broadway star, who is well known in quite a few circles. She may not be a household name, but she isn't "unknown." I love how she ends the song

  • She's good, but it's hard to listen to her w/o hearing Barbara Streisand.

  • @Hannah Glassy - I am as well :) I suppose its her tone/nasal I'm not the biggest fan of but I do envy her power.

  • i think shes brilliant her timing was a little out in some places but so what? People dont give you a standing ovation for nothing What would they think of her on BGT? I mean she would bring the house down

  • I don't like the way she sings it, don't understand me wrong, I usually love her, and the end it's great, but in the first part it sounds a bit like it's very difficult for her to sing it, I don't know how to explain, but it sounds just not right, for me.

  • sorry but I don't really like the way she sings it.... it sounds a bit like it's difficult for her to sing it... don't understand me wrong, usually I love her, but this is by far not her best performance

  • okay...just curious...do any of you have vocal training? because this horrible and i cant believe that so many people actually like this.

  • @KathLovesTad agree. okay it's not horrible, but it's not that good

  • @KathLovesTad - I'm a seasoned singer, been training for most of my life starting when I was just a kid...and I adore her sound. Sure, it's a bit rough at times, but she has such power and truth to her. The narrow sound is just how she sings, I happen to personally have a very wide sound, it's different for everyone. She's fantastic, plus her lung strength...I would KILL for strength like that.

  • @HannahGlassy - I am as well which is why I posed the question in my earlier post. I suppose its her tone/nasal that I'm not a fan of, but I do envy her power.

  • I thought I'd listen to this version because of other comments. Her voice inflection is HORRIBLE. She sounds like someone is choking her through most of the song. I can't believe no one HEARS it. Its annoying as hell. And people compare this to Streisand? How insulting. I guarentee you that Linda is nowhere in Barbra's league on ANY level...including ticket sales. Linda Eder is still an unknown singer for a REASON. I remember her from Star Search...and not since.

  • @cmf4321 i agree, her vibratos are like ear splitting, and not in a good way. Babara is WAAYYY better.Lea Michelle did a better cover and she hasnt even got half of linda's training

  • @AlisonXDmess I want to share with you Barbra Streisand's greatest live concert performance. If you haven't heard it...it will blow you away! It's on youtube under "Barbra Streisand YENTL (Medley)". Watch it. It brought the house down!:-) Only Barbra could harmonize with her own voice and knock it out of the park:-) Enjoy:-)

  • @srickrok You can't be listening to the saame Linda. Wound up??? Barbra's voice is grand, but the power behind Linda's makes Barbra's pale by comparison.

  • Linda Eder - vocalist of all vocalists ladies and gentlemen.

  • Love Barbra but... Lind is a true WOW!

  • Shouldn't she star in a version of Sunset Boulevard? She must be nearing 50 now.

  • She's a pleasing cross between Barbra and Cher.

  • Christ! Does she have an extra lung hidden somewhere? That last note makes my toes curl!!!

  • Linda's voice is SO powerful! she's so amazing!

  • Linda has great vocal acrobatics, but Streisand has a much more unique sound and is the whole package. I'll stick with Barbra.

  • I'm a fan of both Streisand and Eder..where I hear a difference is in diction...Streisand's is effortless and clear as a bell. Both these ladies are incredible

  • Why does she sound like she has a wet rag stuck in her throat?

The main thing that distinguishes Barbra Streisand from mere other singers is that Barbra's singing is completely effortless. Everybody else seems like they're trying too hard.

  • Sorry....have to disagree. Linda's voice is too wound up. Barbara's flows...

  • There's so much intensity in her voice. Beautiful. Less star appeal though compared to Barbra.

  • @Mardawn3 No, no, I meant she belts effortlessly and maybe that's the problem (I know it´s a very hard song to sing) when you're a singer you have to act the song, no matter wether you're an actor or not, and I think that's there where Linda fails; but c'mon there aren't perfect singers. It's only an opinion.

  • take THAT Lea Michele

  • She starts so big, you don't think it can get any better - and then she just keeps building and building and blows you away

  • Wow, as a lifelong, die-hard Barbra fan, I have to give this woman a virtual standing ovation. That gave me goose pimples...that ending was epic epic epic.

  • Probably Barbra couldn't hold those note with that ease BUT that doesn't mean Linda can sing better. She's vocal perfection but the sound, the nuances, the emotion aren't at Streisand level. Linda is belting the hell of it but her face is like what's for dinner? and that's death for a singer. No matther how loud or high you can sing, if you're boring you have no career. Streisand quality of sound and feeling are unmatchable, you can't top that with some carzy belts.

  • Wow!

  • I grew up wuth Barbra and have seen her sing in coincert 3 times over the years, always in the UK, and discovered Linda Eder 20 years ago, Sadly, she is relatively unknown in England and WHY WHY WHY when she has such a power, passion and stunning range. ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS - breathtaking and awesome.

    JB

  • does anyone else realize from 3:11-3:30 all of that is from one breath?

all 19 seconds are on one breath

    that is crazy

  • @danefritz2006- That's nothing. Linda has held out much longer notes than that! you haven't seen nothing yet!

  • my mom saw this song on glee...and i had to find this performance again to show her how it really goes.

  • I LOVE The fact that on both "I'll march my band out" and the very last note she looks like it's SO easy for her she could do it in her sleep! At one point it's almost like she's thinking "Oh.. and I still singing??". UNBELIEVABLE! She is definitely one of my vocal heroes!!

  • I literally clicked the thumb-up botton several times while watching this. A thousand times wouldn't be enough

  • I grew up being a die-hard adoring Barbra fan, but I must be honest and say that I much prefer Ms. Eder's version of this classic song so much more so. For once, I can actually understand the lyrics! Ms. Streisand's annunciation has always been a mystery to me and as much as that song was a personal theme, it is not even more so. Ms. Eder is a vocal force and stage presence to be reckoned with. Oh, to have been in that audience and be blown away for the very first time!!

  • Linda Eder is simply amazing.

  • shes the best

  • Great Song. Great Music. Great Performance.

  • Pls watch REGINE VELASQUEZ's version of this. Good version too

  • Wow, she's gorgeous. I fell in love with this song in Glee, but I think that Linda sings it much better than Lea did.

    (I want her jacket!)

  • She looks so familiar!!!!!! BTW she may even have a better voice then barbra!!!

  • @MrMusicstone

She's incredible. Anyone know of any site that has vid of her doing Judy Garland My Way songs?

  • i'm sorry but i didn't feel any broadway here. It's like making Beyonce sing a broadway song. OR that Charlotte Church singing this broadway-style music.

  • I can't comprehend how this woman holds her notes with NO tension and no pitch waver and never runs out of breath....its like her notes use 75% less air than the rest of the world. Even her face, posture, is relaxed the whole time!

  • @circuitmedic that's a good way to put it!!!!!

  • She is the kind of singer I have always wanted to be. Fearless.

  • Barbra is Barbra...

    Linda is Linda!

They both got the voice, but let's face it Barbra is a legend. Watch Barbra's rendition in Funny Girl movie. This song is written for her movie. Means that this is meant for her to perform because nobody can sing it better than the Original....BARBRA STREISAND! :)

  • Eder is an undeniably great vocalist who can certainly belt out a tune, but like all the others, there is no emotion to her singing; she simply hits the notes. With this song in particular, the words are meaningless for any other singer unless you are Barbra Streisand. The WORDS were as relevant to Barbra Streisand as they were to Fanny Brice whom the song is written about. Comparing HERSELF to Barbra ... bad move.

  • @mikesterSTLMO That is how I find Linda Eder. She has a beautiful voice and can certainly sing Don't Rain On My Parade. But she does not have the emotional intelligence of the one and only Streisand. Point in comparison are their versions of Nine's Unusual Way. Streisand commands the song and delivers the lyrics with sincerity. Linda sings it.

  • @mikesterSTLMO I disagree. I see great conviction and connection to the lyrics in Linda's singing here. To each his own.

  • Remarkable !!! I've seen her perform in person and she is every bit as good and for a reluctant diva a tremendous talent.

  • i love her voice, and she's fab but she really killed the song. it already has big notes in it, and she changed it so much so that it didnt sound like the original version and i think she killed it. it lost its melody.

  • Sorry Barbara, but I think that Linda out Streisanded, Streisand in this performance. What an f'en voice...........

  • Phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal. Linda Eder is such a great singer. It is too bad that barely anyone (on MY side of the world at least) knows who she is. A real shame. Bravo Linda Eder!!

  • I love and respect a LOT of singers, but Linda Eder is the greatest singer alive today in terms of technical finesse, absolute control and sheer power. The absolute best.

  • Linda's version is at least on par with Barbra's. What a set of pipes on both of them!!!

  • Linda has great vocals. I am a fan. She may hit the notes well, but streisand's acting makes it more than just a song. That has a lot to do w/ subtle phrasing and movements. There is just something about streisand. If she didn't sing this song i doubt it would have been as big a hit as it has been.

  • linda rules!!! ... by a wide margin ...

  • Unbelievably fantastic!

  • everyone does it differently to make their own.....so get over urselves

  • OMGosh, how could you say thta Lea Michele is a better singer than Linda...Negative...sorry....she is a classic....

  • you can't compare ANY of them, different stages of their careers across the board!

  • exactly! each brings their own unique and lovely twist to the song.

  • shes wonderful, but too much vibrato for me. There are almost no straght tones from her

  • Linda completely OWNS. It's crazy to think that some people actually prefer Lea's weak little summer-stock belt over Linda's rich, well-trained vocals.

  • She is good, but Barbra rules with this song... even Lea's version was much better... I would like to hear Lea live with this... But Barbra is the greatest star of all with the greatest voice!

  • Linda owns this, sorry Barbara and Lea fans

  • Linda is FABULOUS~~~!!!!! Barbra is MORE FABULOUS!!!!!!. Period.

  • If someone asked me who the best singer I've ever heard in my life is (and there are many) I wouldn't hesitate in saying, Linda Eder. Hand down--she has the most powerful and versatile voice I've ever heard. Her phrasing is outstanding and the things she does on songs like Man of La Mancha, Once Upon A Dream and others is mind-boggling and stunning at the same time. I highly recommend her Broadway My Way album. She on her way to 50 and STILL sounds like this. Her technique is tops.

  • Wow. She DOES NOT breathe, apparently. Craziness, especially the end.

  • Wow... she is so incredible...

  • OMG i'm a Linda Eder fan now!!! She's got some awesome set of pipes!!!

  • Are you for real? I LOVE Linda. She's great, but someone actually thinks Linda has eclipsed Barbra? That is one of the stupidest comments I've read on youtube. There is literally no basis for that comment in reality.

That being said, I love Linda singing this song. She does a great job. So does Barbra. Barbra's the original. Linda does a tremendous cover (complete with an amazing ending).

  • Face it, Barbra needed to pass the torch to Linda Eder years ago............

  • @THEmotownboy really? I don't get the Linda Eder thing. She doesn't come close to Barbra.

  • I've seen Linda Eder live four times in the last 10 years and she sounds as great live as she does in the studio. She doiesn't need any digital enhancemenrt that is the norm now. Obviously, Barbra had quite an infuence on her as she has had on many singers. Linda doesn't pretend to be the queen of anything. She just has this incredible voice and talent.Barbra's DROMP in the 1975 clip on the related videos list on right pales to this one.

  • I guess to each his own. I just don't feel anything when Linda sings. There's just something unique about Barbra that I can't put my finger on...:) Anyway, hope all's well:)

  • Perhaps it just takes looking at Linda as an indiviual and not thorugh Striesand-colored glasses.

  • the first song i heard from her was "this time around" and i just kept thinking, this lady has some SERIOUS pipes! her notes are so clear and powerful! i'm so falling in love with her voice and this is amazing! Babara who?

  • Freaking awesome! Much better than Babs.

  • She makes me wanna do the "hallelujah" dance @ the end of all her songs. My chills are so massive whenshe sings...I LOVE HER!

  • I'm with everyone else, there is no comparison between her and Barbara. I think Linda Eder is one of the most talented singers ever and she is so original. No one sings like her.

  • You know this was barbara's song... right?

  • everybody knows that but linda sings it better.

  • @Mistys120 Well no offense... but no, she doesnt. SHe hits the notes beautifully but rambles through the words oddly. barbara sings it more incredilby than anyone

  • Ok they both sing great, but you can deny that Linda has a voice, the thing is that Barbara keeps changing her way in singing her songs.

  • @Mistys120 I never denied that she had the voice. I love her in jekyll and hyde above all things, but i just think barbara sings it better... also leah michelle :-)

  • @BellatrixNellieLovet Have you heard Lea Michele sing it live?

  • I like her voice a lot, but I don't really like the way she kind of mumbles some of the lines in some of the faster sections.

  • I agree! I don't know why people minused you. Shes got an incredible pipes, but she has no enunciation in the sens that she rumbles through her words :-)

  • Linda has the most incredible voice I've ever heard! What an incredible talent. Why don't we hear more of her??

  • Barbra WHO?!

I love Babs don't get me wrong, but WOW Linda!

  • Yeah, Poor Barbra, Linda has totally eclipsed Barbra with her career.

  • Yeah? who knows Linda and Who Knows Streisand?

  • Better then Barbra!

  • She´s a great talent. Great video and thanks for posting it.

  • 10 times better then Babs!

  • she blows barbara away im sorry..She is incredible!

  • Miami: I certainly agree with you. I have most of Streisand's LP's, and I think she has a beautiful voice. BUT, if people were really honest they would agree that she has not been able to sing with such vocal projection, intensity, and with the ability to hold those big notes like Eder shows here for decades. Even Streisand's 1975 clip, shown on Youtube, can't match this! But, they both have beautiful voices, and I appreciate them both.

  • @sas9023055 you should know that sound systems back then are not mastered and cleaned up as the live shows of today before put on dvd. compare any of linda's long notes of the lighter and still soaring ending of streisand's Piece of sky. the marvel of streisand is that she doesn't have to make her voice dark to soar. Linda makes it dark which makes it sound big. I love linda's vocal prowess but streisand has more feeling.

  • @MiamiMase Linda is a gifted technical vocalist but no real drama to her voice. Streisand adds that to this "risky no melody song" it was considered when it was first out. Remember that the way houston, MC, and Linda sing the way they do because streisand made that type of singing popular. Garland did not belt this high and streisand was considered the original. People will out do the original some day, it took Linda 40 years to match it :). streisand puts urgency, Linda is about granstand only

  • TOTALLY!

  • @MiamiMase I love them both but in very different ways. Linda is a good actress and has an incredible voice, but Barbra has the voice and is a much better actress. I will say that I never before heard talk of Linda trying to be like Barbra, but I did say that to myself after watching several of her videos a few minutes ago.

  • This is one of the better ones I have heard....Still not as GREAT as Barbra but she does do a great job!!

  • Great joB!

  • She is incredible!!!! Bravo!

  • Is it me or does she put on the best performances without breathing? Lol!

  • I prefer this to Barbra's -- Linda's got SUCH amazing technique. This is fantastic. Especially "Hey world, here I am!" and that last note!

  • this is just, just amazing singing!!!!

  • She is definately one of the all time great singers, saw her live in Colorado, she brought the house down in Jeckyl & Hyde.

  • Saw her in that on Broadway - amazing!

  • She is FANTASTIC!

  • The "hey world, here I am" is incredible!

  • I got to sing background to Linda Eder in Houston for TUTS Gala...love singing this song!

  • He's also the conductor of the ensemble so he's got to be a little more animated to note the changes of the slow notes and such. :)

  • This is how it's done! Ms. Eder doesn't need to take a backseat to anyone icluding the truly amazing Ms. Streisand! Ms. Eder isn't just a comer, she's here to stay!

  • the last note was held from 3:15 to 3:29 on my count. Very long note.

  • Technically even before 3:15! She didn't take a breath! AMAZING!

  • the breath was held longer, yes, but I was referring to the single note itself. The singing before was a bunch of different notes held in one breath. I agree, amazing. :)

  • Very nice. But BARBRA she is NOT

  • Linda is like BUTTA,......but Non Jewish. And I bet she looks better NAKED than Barbara,.....but thats just ME being a Pervert! Have Fun!

  • this version makes me warm on the inside.

  • AMAZINGGGGGGGG

  • i love her

  • I feel that Linda and Barbra both sing this song differently. Barbra sings it from her mask, which is what she's famous for. Linda sometimes goes into the mask. But, both have amazing versions of this song. You can't really compare the two women because they have been successful each in their own right. Also, Barbra has the 1960's voice and it's nice to see someone today emulating that type of voice again. It's refreshing to hear real talent when all we have is pop songs by Britney Spears

  • It is impossible to not draw comparisons between Linda and Barbra. They did it when Barbra came along in the 60's with judy Garland. They are all amazing talents, each with her own style and special vocal qualities. Lets not insult anyone with different tastes, it hurts to hear negative comments on my favorite singer, so why do it. There is no denying the talent of Linda or Barbra. Each stands alone, sharing their talents and making us feel pleasure and sometimes awe.

  • the greatest vocalist EVER!

  • Excellent.

  • What a voice, one of the best vocalists ever. My only negative about Linda is that I want her to put the mic in a stand and just stand there and belt.Apart from that, WOW!!!!!!!!

  • sooo much better than barbara streisand. she's so much clearer. you can understand every word that comes out of those amazing pipes of hers.

  • I respect your opinion but totally disagree. For me Streisand controls her vocals much better and even the clarity of words. Also this woman seems to be struggling with the tempo. She has strong vocals but lacks warmth and doesn't interpret the song quite as well. Linda is singing while Streisand tells a story.

  • I am neutral, I think her tempo is more influenced by jazz, and reminds me a little of the way Frank would change up a song. Streisand thinks her fame gives her political clout. I dont know this womans political views, so I like Linda better.

  • Barbra's fame does give her political clout. She is a hero

  • I have admired Barbra all my life! But I have come to realize over the years that she is more interested in her views on the world then her binging an artists. Linda Eder on the other hand is a devoted artist and tries to perfect her performance which I can't say for Barbra. Most of her songs she sings sound roughly the same while Linda brings something new to the performance every time.

  • For this song Barbra sings this song with warmth and emotion because she has had a first hand account with the show and song - if you know what I mean - as for Linda she sings the song her own way and she is not trying to tell a story. And Linda has all the warmth a performer needs.

But hey that's my opinion and I totally respect your :)
