The choir at the high school I went to did it much better, and do so every year. However, they are the best choir in the state, so I expect it. Overall, assuming there wasn't much rehearsal, it's not that bad.
this is an amateur production.... aren't they just the best.. respect to every chorister.... love it... well done... and was able to sing along without feeling out of tune.....have been there and total respect!!!!! happy Christmas .... you made mine!!!!!!! amen
PRAISE THE LORD GOD OF HEAVEN! His Name IS called Wonderful, Counselor! THE Mighty God. THE Everlasting Father, THE Prince of Peace!! Bless the Lord God of Heaven! There is NO WAY this song can be sung wrong seeing it is GOD's Holy Word.
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
I really think your taking that too far. I'm fine with being very religious, I personally am. However, just because a song is religious doesn't mean it can never sound bad.
i am in the Fleischmann choir in Cork School of Music in Ireland we are 1 of the largest choirs in Ireland.we sopranos altos tenors and basses i am 1stbass
Inspiring...well done one and all,i really appreciated it and was uplifted,as i have been down recently, trying to cope against the world ,the flesh, and the devil.Thankfully ,my lovely Jesus will bring me through this time .
Seasons greetings to you all.
By the way,the Hallelujah chorus was terrific as well. Thankyou .
obsoleteodds, have a great Christmas, may the Prince of Peace reign in your heart! His Kingdom will prevail, not just for the whole world, but for YOU!
I was in that production & I've been in it for the past 5 years we get together late Fri. for a rehearsal, we rehearse 3-4 times on Sat. we rehearse once Sun. afternoon, & then rehearse for the first time with the orchestra late Sun. afternoon, & then we perform Sun. night. Half of the people are under 16, & aren't trained vocally in anyway. I'd appreciate it if any critisism against this would stop, & if it doesn't, I would like to challenge you to do what we did & do a better job!!!
It was lovely. Your choir is to be highly commended. There is an old saying: Those that can, do; those that can't, criticize. Take heart - yours is a "Can Do" choir! Blessings!
sure, considering they only hadt 2 days to learn the piece it is ok..... but if you know how to place the voice, you still will place it even though if you learn a piece in two days... that doesnt have anything to do... and being an amateur doesnt mean you cannot sing right
One more point: cheap handheld vidcam in the back of the hall... it's not going to give you a very realistic sense of the tone or even the pitch. Let's not get overly technical with the criticism based on a lousy video. Props to the Musicon peeps!
OK, you guys, maybe it's not perfect. Did you get the part about TWO DAYS of preparation? This is not a standing choir, and in fact most of them are amateurs. I think it was pretty amazing given the circumstances! One - ONE - rehearsal of the orchestra, and with the orchestra.
the choir's okay... when they have to hold long notes, they either go flat. or don't end singing at the same time. I like the timpani though. just needs to know when to mute it.
Sorry, only recorded these two parts! I should have recorded "purify" because that seemed to be the theme of the weekend. (This isn't a standing choir. Most of them actually came together on Friday night, spent the weekend in rehearsal, workshops, and worship, and delivered on Sunday.) Anyway, the theme for the workshops was God's purification of his people, which is also a big theme of the Advent season - which we liturgical types are in right now.
"And he shall purify" is sort of a the twin of this part of the Messiah. This one is G Major and the other is G Minor and has the same type of fugue setting. Combined they're great.
God loves it and so do I.

These are not the words of God. These are the worlds of Handel. It does praise God though.

I absolutely prefer the original song "No Di Voi Di No Fidarmi"
That song has so much more passion and drama, and the version I have has this beautiful clear tone and ring. Absolutely inspiring...

This is the most audible video of this part of the Messiah on youtube. Superb.

the choir is flat because the notes are not well placed... the women sound like little girls singing...

choir does not look enough at director...
bass terribly ...hu...unconvincing.
Violins must be amateurs...
Too legato and out of tune...

Yes---and no---
"And He Shall purify" is a mirror of "His Yoke is easy"
(check out the introductions, tempi relations, and key areas)
"Hallelujah!" is a mirror of the "hammerstrokes" of "For unto Us"
Keep smiling
