@mAscArA81 Really? Both have quitars that are always wavering on hardcore (real NYC hardcore), unless it's one of the slow songs, and the vocals range from whispers to full on belting to ridiculous screaming. I'd say both are quite similar, which is absolutely a good thing for both of them.
comparing deftones and glassjaw isn't far fetched...but i think the new glassjaw sounds much better than the new deftones...that's just my opinion....white pony was the last good album the deftones put out, i think...although, there have been a couple of really standout songs here and there since then. idk...i think glassjaw take their time (:-|) releasing their albums, but the wait is totally worth it...opinion; don't kill me.

Both bands are amazing but I just see more ground being covered and progression while still retaining a core sound in Deftones. Idk why ppl dont like their Self-titled its actually my favorite and while it doesnt have a flow to it that most of their albums do The songs just kickass as stand alones I think but modern Deftones are at their peak and just really coming into their own as a band
All that being said I do think Glassjaw is a more complex band when it comes to musicianship but for me it comes down to vocalists and well Chino steals the show for me great frontman captures the audience better then any other that I've witnessed (Youtube vids dont do a live show justice fyi) but that also is just my preference and I cant fucking wait for some new Glassjaw!

Ya I will say seeing deftones anywhere from 2004-2008 was not the most enjoyable period for them. The hearts werent into it lots of drama and chino was still getting over his weight. If u see them now ul be very much surprised lot more energy lot more power I think this is the best they've ever been actually

Also, I should have represented myself better: I didn't like Everything's production quality, though most of the songs on it are relatively well put together. That was my bad.
its true that glassjaw and deftones share similar influences and styles.. however .. there are a significant amount of key differences in the respective sounds of the two bands.. deftones definitely leans to a more hip-hop-ish sort of ambience while glassjaw's post-hardcore influences give the band a different sort of vibe.. i prefer glassjaw but i would say i love both bands equally

But all I know is that they made it okay for bands to put other influences like jazz in "rock" music, you don't see Glassjaw just always going heavy on every song they have softer parts too. @Jessikacutey34 This is so damn wrong. I'm a big, big Deftones fan. I've been for years. And even though Chino's work has more mystique and his voice has that irresistible tone, Palumbo has WAY more vocal skills than Chino.

I'm not saying that I know more about music any more than the people arguing about the Beatles and Glassjaw. But all I know is that they made it okay for bands to put other influences like jazz in "rock" music, you don't see Glassjaw just always going heavy on every song they have softer parts too. I bet that this band has more Beatles influence than most people will ever know. But on the brighter note, I agree with 12ozshark GLASSJAW IS AWESOME AND SO ARE THE BEATLES!
