  • one of the best songs ever.

    thanks.

MTV was much better those days :)

  • ffsd

  • wow that smile 3:03

  • couulllll the cars

  • 55555*

  • bad video but lovable...ah, university days!

  • What do you mean "bad video"? This video was really funny and entertaining. You want me to describe what a bad video is? Watch the R.E.M. video for It's The End Of The World As We Know It. That is one of the most horrible videos ever made!!

    ~Dutch

  • time flys by doesn't it, wow the cars are awesome, R.I.P Ben, and its kinda odd that the girl in the TV screen flashes out April 2000 which was when Ben was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer.

  • great f-d up video. Cars made some bad videos and this is wonderfully bad!

  • 3:04 God, Ben was so cute!!!! RIP Ben xx

  • was it just coincidence that the girl at the beginning flashes April 2000, thats when Ben found out his cancer was inoperable and he passed away 6 months later. Now THATS strange. Rest in Peace Ben, the Cars arent the same without you.

  • buenazaaaaa

  • @Dutch i remember that too i was 4 now im 28

  • @comic93 yep, i was 9 & now 32. Its strange to be in love with Benjamin Orr who is a year younger than my dad.

  • From their least popular album Door to Door, but the album still made it to platinum and will be aruond for years to come cause its the CARS.

  • back when mtv cared about music

  • I love the cars! they do have some 'filler songs' like every other band does. But along w/ funny their completely scary......MULLETS!!! I had one in high school. They were cool back then Lol.

  • @cavityfix1 I read what you said about filler music; have you listened to all of their music that was not on the radio? They have rare finds on all their albums. If you ask Cars fans which song is their favorite, it will always be different and change periodically. Their music is fluid and sublime.

I really like their live performances, but one of many songs I adore is "This Could Be Love"

I have lots of their good stuff on my channel. Rock On!

  • Gotta love the 80's, in Uruguay, every 25th August, theres a special night, called "la Noche de la Nostalgia" (the nostalgic night) where all the dance clubs put only 70's 80's and 90's music, is a really popular night, I love it cause it keeps the old music alive.

  • Looks like Ben is playing roulette;

    (strip roulette)

    black 21, you loose.......

    remove that shirt.....please

    LOL

  • The Cars hit #17 in Billboard, 10-24-87. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! RIP, Ben Orr.

  • Una de las mejores canciones y clip de los 80s. Que buenos esos tiempos para la música. Saludos desde Perú

  • Good, very good 1 :]

  • Hey don't feel bad if your still stuck in the 80's, you just miss when song artist had true talent own individuality, wrote there own songs and had amazing voices..

  • This song reminds me of my childhood... I feel ancient and im only 33, lol... Great song, great memories... Its funny that it says Classic MTV, its when MTV actually played music 95 % of the time... Other than that tv show Remote Control that I always wanted to be on...

  • @ThemanDeshawn I know how you feel. I'm 33 too, and I feel so damn old especially since I am so out of touch with today's society. I like old music, old shows, etc. The internet and cell phone are about as techno as I will get.

  • @RetroJenn Lol, Wait until you reach 42!!!!!

  • Funny enough, I'm 32 now and I remember when Remote Control first debuted on MTV in 1987. The same year The Cars released the Door To Door album. I was 8 years old in 1987 and my second grade year of school was from late 1987 to early 1988 and every day when I came home, I would turn on MTV and watch Remote Control. However, that was still when MTV was the bomb because like you said, they actually played videos then and now they just have a bunch of worthless reality shows.

    ~Dutch

  • The 80s had so much great music; original, written from scratch, and performed as a group. The 80s have the highest song remake rate. It's no wonder; the music was great then and it's still great now. Hard to live up to that decade again music wise.

  • Now I know where the makers of Austin Powers got the idea for the fem-bots.

  • My favorite song of theirs easily. Just a pretty song.

  • I know they don't stand out as much and Ben and Ric. That's because Ben and Ric were the lead singers, but what I was asking was if you thought either Greg or David were attractive. At the start of the video you see David taking pictures and then you briefly see him tap Ric on the shoulder and point out the chair with the radar screen in front of it. Greg is the one with blonde hair who turns up the room with the frozen girls in it too high until they deteriorate too fast.

    ~Mr. Make Believe

  • What was your opinion of David Robinson and Greg Hawkes? David is the drummer who has dark hair and Greg is the keyboardist who has blonde hair. Greg is the one who turns up the defroster too high in the video and causes the frozen girls to deteriorate into freaky appearances. As for David, he's not seen as much but there is a part of the video when he's playing a drum set that's moving forward.

    ~Mr. Make Believe

  • Cheesy 80s videos, but The Cars are the ultimate in their style of ballads.

  • love them from chicago always looking for friends to hang with love the music from day one

  • this video is hilarious - and the space ship opening like an orifice with the phallic space thing @2:47 ... thanks for posting...never saw this before...

  • is it me or does ric look like fred gwyyne of the munster's

  • Check out those spock ears- oh wait... they're his.

  • Okay, those chicks at the end scared the living daylights out of me.

  • Great song! \m/

  • Happy 62nd birthday Ric! Hope you get to spend it with those you love!

  • Happy Birthday Ric

  • "The Cars are bi-winning. Win here, win there, win, win, everywhere!"

  • While Door to Door is probably the worst album by The Cars, I'll take The Cars at their "worst" over a lot of other groups at their best. The album has my favorite Ben Orr vocal in Go Away (probably one of my top 5 Cars songs ever). Sure, this song wasn't in the same league as their earlier stuff, but they certainly know how to write a damn catchy tune. To me, that's just as valuable. And Elliott's solo in this one is proof of why he is so underrated. He has melody and taste for DAYS!

  • Funny enough, Door To Door is actually my all time favourite Cars album. I thought it was a fantastic album and coincidentally, Go Away is my number one favourite song off the album! Go Away is such a beautifully performed song with lots of vibrant electronic sound and Benjamin Orr sang it so enthusiastically to a point where it was just such a great powerful track. Unfortunately it never made it as a hit but I feel it truly should have.

    ~Mr. Make Believe

  • great song, great video. I think they should of picked a different song for it though. the songs too sad and serious in my opinion. oh well. the song was popular, none f the other tracks were. they did what they had too do.

  • GRAN TEMA SALUDOS

  • So if Greg is taking over bass, what happens to the keyboard sound he was so innovative with?

  • @John32070 He was doing both at the concert I was at , songs sounded the same

  • I remember when this first came out. It trips me up to see it was an MTV Exclusive compared to the cesspool that network is now.

  • It's verified! A new CD and tour early 2011!Greg Hawkes is tackling Ben's Bass Guitar chores. You can hear one of their new songs on .music.aol. I'm thrilled to no end!

  • @outacontrol41 The Cars posted pictures of themselves working in a Boston studio on Facebook. In 2005, Greg Hawkes and Elliot Easton toured as The New Cars with Todd Rundgren on lead vocals. They released a CD with a couple of new songs, including Not Tonight, which they made a video for, and the rest were older tunes.

  • Sexual innuendo in this video for sure. The joystick Ric is holding simulates masturbation, and their spaceship "Docking" insinuates intercourse action. Very inventive video. The alien women at the end are a hoot! Word has it The Cars are re-uniting and are in the studio. So sad Benjamin Orr died. It wont be the same without him. :[

  • @Deanocub The Cars re-uniting? More information on this?

  • @outacontrol41

Yea they're making a new album, heres the minute long preview of it.

    watch?v=1og9ws8Q984

You can also see it in nice high quality on their Facebook page.

  • good memories, from when I was a child

  • In the USSR there was such transfer "Morning mail" and in 1989 have shown this clip :YOU ARE THE GIRL

  • it s my love sign

  • love the cars!! 21 over here;)

  • Cool!!! I love this video.

  • I think it would be awesome to have a guy sing this to me ,lol but anyways hell i guess it don't hurt to dream , anyways this is a real fun feel good song R o C K on

    Love The Cars !

  • Excelente Música y Video. Siempre los escuchaba en Lima en mis épocas universitarias. Lo Máximo : THE CARS

  • I wish that someone will sing this for me someday xD

  • lol This video cracks me up. Good stuff!

  • WHAT CAN I SAY , THIS WILL SOUND BRASH, BUT THIS WAS MY LOVE MAKING TUNE IN THE 80"S , THE GIRLS LOVED IT I LOVED IT & I WANT TO THANK ALL THOSE HUNNIES WHO BENT OVER BACKWARDS FOR ME , BADA BING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

  • Recently have had to use a car w/a Cassette deck in it & Damn those are harder & harder to find theese days (Cassettes) I have to go to thrift stores & I got Door to Door for 50 cents & I Really Really Like it more & more the more I listen to it AWSOME!!!

  • tras la gracia y la broma, el anhelo de encontrar a "la chica de tus sueños", linda!

  • Not even worthy of their great past. Sad to see a great rock band rely so much on synthesizers because everyone else did. Sounds like a band going through the motions. First three albums were classic, this is just embarrassing.

  • Too much money!

  • Too much money!

  • really inapropriate

  • Hit #2 rock, #12 AC, #17 pop in Billboard. God bless! RIP, Ben.

  • I can't believe I've never seen this music video! This is classic! I like how in the end they are like "fuck it" and get with the alien babes.

  • I never seen this video before. It's funny and cool as hell.

  • That girl kinda looks like daryl hannah..amazing tune, its got spunk!

  • I have liked this video of The Cars, because I like science fiction; I thought they did very well; and end of the world in science fiction with only aliens from outerspace for hot dates does come up, sometimes. I read it by metaphor, and there is a statement about the hoard of women who showed up for The Cars.

  • damn the Cars are great.

  • que musica sin palabras

  • Again, all Ric for the most part.

  • Loved the 80's. Those were the good old days!

  • poor benjamin oar ! he left too young !!!! his music will live on forever !!!! so whos gonna drive u home?

  • ahh...... ESTO ES MUSICA !! : )

  • I thought they banned this video long time ago!! cause it had some nudity!!

  • last top 40 hit for the Cars, peakin' at #17 in Billboard.

  • I never found mine

  • Lo Maximo Esta Cancion Una De Los Mejores Rock De Los 80s Saludos Desde Lima - Peru

  • The best music ever.... my favorite band... Perfect electro pop....

  • From the movie...Date With An Angel

  • My god, I must haven't seen it for 20 years, but remembered every frame. I didn't know a word in English back then.

  • REAL MUSIC!

  • @bjroberts65 espectacular

  • close-up penetration shot at 2:54 - this video should be flagged

  • Seriously, Zorn76, you need to get over yourself.

  • dude just shut up

  • love bens smile when he sees all the aliens

  • this is my favorite tune from the cars. I love them, they were so cool in the 80s.

  • I do not get tired of looking at oneself in youtube the cars, for me the s is the best in music of the endings of the 70 's and beginnings of the 80.

  • Sorry all you droolers....this techno, electronic drum crap is what ruined this band.Their first 2 albums were rock classics, but this fluff-beat crap doesnt hold an audience. THIS type of tune is for the "flavor of the month" crowd, a la Flock of Seagulls or Naked Eyes. As soon as next month, people that like this are onto something else. If they'd kept going with stuff like the first 2 albums had, their career would have continued, so you can attribute their demise to this schlock !

  • Definitely one of the weirdest and funniest music videos ever, by my all-time favorite band. Damn these guys were good. Thanks for posting!!!

  • Did you see Ben`s smile at 3:04 when he sighted so many female aliens? Funny!!!

  • lol its great

  • petacular

  • Buena Rick Okasek

  • La mejor cancion de The Cars. Excelente

  • Tienes razon!!!

  • Looks like they are really having fun in this video. I miss them so much!!!

  • amazing song from the best band ever

  • It's amazing. Door to Door is by far the Cars' weakest album. Their earlier stuff is head and shoulders above their output during the 80's. However, this is my favorite song from my favorite band: the Cars. I guess even when they were cheesing around, the Cars were still capable of pop-rock gold. This is the song in my head when I think about the only girl I've ever loved.

  • Best Cars song!

  • 1:35. :D

  • lmao this is is so fun to listen

  • omg, was it me or was that a lil funky things? at about 3:51 looks like something we should all recognize... lol the cars are so rad.

  • Grande the cars me acuerdo de los ochenta una fan de PERÚ

  • PLOP

  • ke melodias mas bellas

  • Any chance of a THE CARS DVD coming out?

  • double trouble by the cars also kicks ass....great band......

  • I remember this song from the movie, Date With An Angel. I loved it ever since.

  • That's exactly the movie where I heard this song for the first time!!!

  • uuuuuuuu this one rocks...simply great

    where are you now Cars?

  • His music is pretty rock.

  • After "Panorama" The Cars were pretty much mainstreamed into the pop-rock radio-friendly world. This song is a good example of that. Always found it to be far below Ocasek's writing standards. The dangerous, creative edge he displayed on the first three albums was pretty much gone by this time.

  • i really love this song....

  • Good tune, but the video would have been better if it featured more Benjamin. The guy is sexy as hell. No, instead, they have homely Ric and that other blond guy taking up air time. Gee, you would think that they would have wanted to display Ben more, since he was really the only good-looking one in the band! Ric may be talented, but I really don't want to look at him all that much. LOL.

  • yeah!!!

  • I think the reason Ric got the most face time in this video is because he was the one who sang lead vocal on this song. If Ben had sang lead vocal then he probably would have been seen the most. Didn't you think that David Robinson or Elliot Easton were attractive at all? I'm referring to the drummer and the lead guitarist, not Greg Hawkes of whom you referred to as the other blonde guy. David has dark spiked hair in this video and Elliot has wavy reddish coloured hair.

    ~Mr. Make Believe

  • I love that first model in the video her name is Ashley Richardson. I was in an elevator with her in Paris France one time. She has been in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue before. Oh Yeah, I love the Cars.

  • why they cut the song at 01:29?

  • funny!

  • i think this is a nice song i use to dream about a girl friend with this song. just memories of 14 years ago!! what a life..

  • So sweet

  • Does anybody know if there was a video made for their song "Go Away" from their LP called "Door to door"?

  • for....

    Clara.

  • Love the song!

  • I looked this video in 1988 at the first time and felt in love with The Cars!

  • @DCdent151 you mean 1987

  • @lovtheoldstuff I lived in the communist country (USSR) and it was very hard to get musical hits same time as other world. Album Door To Door was realised in 1987, but i see this video at the first time only in 1988.

  • LOL!!! Look at Benjamin's face at 3:04. I love it when he raises his eyebrows. lol

Thanks for showing us this video! R.I.P. Ben

  • this has to rank right up there as being one of the most bizarre music videos ever made. even by the Cars' standards. this was directed by Andy Warhol, if i'm not mistaken.

  • My absolute favorite from THE CARS!!!!

  • I think Mike Meyers may have been influenced by this video. There are some ideas that are very much like the Austin Powers movies.

  • This is a real good song. I do not believe this album killed the Cars. The cars started making money in 1977 so the were strong until 1987 with this song. Then the 90s came and new music began to replace the 80s music. The cars were huge from 1978 until 1985. But I love the Cars. One of my favorite groups. I also love the Cure too.

  • there was a time when this song meant some thing now it just the cars

  • I have no clue what u r talking about?

  • WOW! I love The Cars and it is the 1st time I have heard this song. Really dreamy. The videos funny!

  • I heard this song in a grocery store in CA. So I looked it up on the web and found it on U Tube. I knew it was either a CARS or Ric Ocasek song when I heard it. I was 24 years old in 1987 when this song came out. Too bad I did not hear it then. I think this song is awesome.

  • you are the mullett

  • LOL.

  • my friend..

  • Jesus christ, Steph you are my..... :p

    good song!

  • Totally forgot about this song. Another great one from Ric Ocasek and the boys.

  • This song is awesome! It is the first time that I ever saw this video. I miss the 80s. I am now 45 years old and the past 10 years have gone by in a blur.

  • prepare to dock...ahhhhh!!!! ha!ha!

  • This is rare.

  • Oh maaann...

That's the first time i seen the vid for this song,I mean,I LOVE the song, but, this video SSSSUUUUCKSSSSS!

tHESE GUYS CANNOT ACT, and ALL the girls were uuhhhgly,

    the song skipped too...

    *mmmuuttterrzz unnnnder breath.

ps: I love playing to this on Bass guitar.woo-hooooooo.

  • In MY dreams...

  • brilliant.

  • Dang this looked like one of my dreams after watching Flesh Gordon back in the day ....lol

  • Never noticed all of the sexual innuendos.

  • Back in the 80s you had to be more discreet. Though is you look close it [sex] is pretty damn obvious. LOL.

  • I love this song and some of the others that came from door to door but in the end it was this Album that killed the cars.. :-(

  • This album didn't kill the cars. It just happened to be their last. They were on the way out before it was released. This album was very underrated also.

  • GET OFF MY ROCKS BANDS

  • What a band!!!! I was completely in love with Benjamin Orr!! LOL! Back when MTV actually played music videos! Brings back sooo many memories, thanx for posting.

  • Thanks for posting this. It's a fun video (and you can tell it is) and sadly the last single to make the charts for them. I also like their hair a lot better. The Door To Door album really isn't bad but if you listen to it it it just sounds like the music style is all over the place and I think that threw fans and critics off. I think there are 1-2 more videos from this album but they are hard to find.

  • I adore them :))))

  • O i LOVE the CARS

  • Canción muy buena, hace 6 meses no se encontraba, saludos de Perú

  • Wow that's a space dick!

  • "Do not handle when wet"

  • "Do not handle if* wet"

  • i heard this song when i was in corps korea 1990

  • The female droid looks like Britney Spears
