At that time we were maybe 1% of the population. Good music, good dope, good idea, better ways, but we were isolated. See newspaper articles the day after Kent State to see what the country thought of us. MLK was the only man-in-a-suit that didn't want us killed. Now 3 generations later my how it's grown. These times are better.
This is one of he first albums I ever bought. Growing up in the 80s they were before my time but I had the fortune of seeing them perform as the airplane in 89 at Great woods
growin up in the 90s was fckin cool as well,I was fckin stoned every fckin day of my life from about 99 `till now.And we are still alive,we are the same as you lucky fckers that grew up in the 60`s and 70s except,90 percent of the music is SHIT!!!And what do we get-our favorite bands are all gone, most of them, and our idols are dead.I will never see Morrison and Hendrix,Bonham and Kobain.
@dhilberg Well I wasn't around either, but I'm sure it was bad. But look where we are now. Things were wild, sure, but there was true freedom back then. Now the government thinks they can control every little part of our lives. What I'm afraid of is that my kids won't know the joys of freedom. Back then, people cared. Now we're all floating through life letting what happens happen. Look at it. Do we REALLY get out there and try to change our world? I'd really like to see it in person.
Good morning, do you like sixties? Listen and pod cast my program " great sound of 60' s " on the site plumfm. Greeting and made blooper in rock and roll. Salut, vous aimez les sixties ? Ecoutez et podcatez mon émission "le super son des sixties" sur plum fm. Salut et faites gaffe au rock'n roll
@stevevandien, I've actually started to listen to some of their stuff after Crown of Creation. It seems like they made 2 stratospherically great albums (Crown of Creation and Baxter's). Beyond those 2 I can see why they're not considered one of the greats. They are very talented and put out other good albums, Volunteers being one of them. But the rest were not draw dropping.
@pq02lamzo I know what you mean, and I agree. The Airplane reached its highest heights between the first album ("The Jefferson Airplane Takes Off") and the sixth ("Volunteers"). Don't think they could have achieved more with this particular lineup AT that particular time.
@REDtwotwotwo man me and you gots to join forces this bieber person has been to the videos of all our great music and is spreading hate. we gootta bring a revoloution, VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA!
@nirvanawishiwas96 alright i dont really hate any mainstream artists but i do not like them its just they dont compare...they will all fade away at some point.
@berky1 totaly, all the lyrics from the 60's made sense, said, something, made a point, now every r&b song talks about having sex and nice cars. what happened to oogum boogum? the wind cries mary? so long marrianne? for god sakes, across the universe still makes me think about life and how mine can change one day, drastically for the better.
I was so lucky to be around 20 when this stuff came out. We really thought, or some did, that there was gonna be a revolution, anything seemed possible. Now there''s just jobs (if you're 'lucky') and taxes.
"..You can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high water mark - that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back". ("Fear and Loathing", Hunter S Thompson).
@newaccountdebzbd How? We'll never be able to see The Beatles, Jefferson Airlplane, Jimi Hendrix, The Yardbirds, The Rolling Stones with Brian Jones, The Grateful Dead, Cream, The 13th Floor Elevators, CCR...we can only watch youtube videos of it.
@slpplexi1969 Here's an idea: stop watching, start doing. Get off your ass and out of the house and start making the world you want. That's what we did. We could have all stayed inside and watched American Bandstand, but we didn't. Believe it or not, there are musicians around today who have the potential talent of those you've listed. But they need to be sought out and they need your support. Join Occupy, support live music, be a freak.
@newaccountdebzbd I've actually been the guitarist/bassist in a band that plays 60s style psychedelic, garage, British invasion, and blues for or over a year. I was also the Paul McCartney in a Beatles tribute band for a short time, and I played guitar in a 70s style rock band before that. You assume too much.
@slpplexi1969 Well, here's something almost unprecedented on YT: I apologize. I believe you, and I respect such talent and ability. But I was referring to political activity. Although you may beat it at that, as well.
@newaccountdebzbd -and so it goes on, age 50 here and in between politically and age wise but the belief and passion put into the music of the time is something that will not be forgotten. A changing era in many ways! I was just a kid but it was the music that I grew up with and also the music that I keep coming back to!
