Its amazing how parents "forget" what they did to you when they get older. My father is like this woman. I often called him the most selfish man on earth. Yet, he thinks he was like the dad on the Cosby show. I can totally relate to Mindy. I tell my dad "you did such and such to me and it hurt me so bad". He's all "I never did that". It drives a person insane because they are so adamant that they never did anything you begin to question yourself even though you know you are telling the truth.

This woman has NPD, narcissistic personality disorder... one of the worst mental disorders to have because there is no way for a psychologist to get through to this type of person. Family members suffer considerably because they feel as though they are banging their heads against a wall, and outsiders frequently do not believe that the NPD individual could REALLY be all that bad. Also, the "mother" on "Dr." Phil is a wonderful candidate to be left in the dust by her daughters for ONE very important reason: refusal of accountability for her actions. As long as that goes on, the less likely it is that anything will change. Also, the "mother" is much older, now. She's deeply set in her ways, and it's not far-fetched to charge her with some sort of mental illness ~ narcissistic personality disorder, perhaps? Best to leave her alone; unlikely she'll acknowledge her actions.

Daughters should give up on their mother. I did and it worked wonders. Quality of my life shot up to an A+ from an F -. Why don't grown children, especially daughters concerning their mothers, do what I did? Deciding to quit communicating with my mother took a lot of courage, three years ago, whereas all those years beforehand, I was constantly trying to find ways to gain her approval. Her comments cut into me like deep gashes thru my growing yrs. I took control and quit talking to her in 2008.
