if you truly think there is no such thing as marriage brokering going on in the world, then your sadly mistaken. and "strangers getting married" is nothing new at all. not in the sense of marriage brokering, but haven't you ever heard of the term betrothed? strangers get married every day. as far as the other... it most certainly DOES happen, and was once a faddish thing for men here in america to send off for a foreign bride, and i'm sure they aren't the only ones.
people tend to hate what they fear. they fear Baha'i because it is new to the world. the same has happened with the dawning of every new age in history. think... if the Jewish had accepted Christ as intended, there would be no more Jewish. The same goes for Christians not accepting Muhammad. we are not absolved from this way of thinking. society is just not that developed yet.
Maybe your 'Great Race" should think about why you are so hated? I mean, I know you love to question things, so why have you been so hated throughout histoy??
I don't disagree that there are men who abuse women, but women are just as likely to abuse. Lesbian relationships have the highest DV rate but since it shows that women can be just as bad or worse, so the results were suppressed since it does not support the idea that all men are abusers while all women are victims.
you know that's funny, because gay marriage is not even recognized on a national level here. i also always thought it was funny that they request it in the first place. this is only because according to statistics, in average of several i've seen in fact, that a homosexual will have between 60 and 100 partners in their life. I'm sure the isn't the case for all homosexuals, and may be less for women, but the point is... why ask for marriage if you don't even intend on being with just 1 person?!
of course many straights are promiscuous as well, but not on that high of level. my bias also comes from my strong belief in God, and that the sexual acts of homosexuals is forbidden to man/woman marriages as well.
In regards to women not ever being abusive, of course they can be. Any human has the ability to inflict harm, although it is a tad difficult to bring someone up on charges for abuse here in the US. There has to be strong evidence, and never just on word alone.
i hope your not implying that i am a supporter of this awful organization?! no need to pass judgment on me... or for me to repent to you, or anyone other than God Himself. of course i don't approve of the travesties committed by peoples involved with IMBRA, and i'm sure they will answer for them someday, however, it is not for either of us to pass judgment to anyone. this act is also for none other than God. please, i mean no disrespect, and i'm glad you don't approve of IMBRA as well :) peace
with regards to her being a Baha'i, i doubt very seriously that she's involved with IMBRA, or in sync with their views and practices either. sorry for the misunderstanding. her whole speech is about the equality of men and women... that doesn't sound like support for male order brides, does it?
This Bitch was very involved in passing IMBRA, and Mail Order Brides is the wrong term to use just as Lesbian Whore is the wrong term to use for Feminists
and i apologize again for the misunderstanding on my part. I did more research and found that IMBRA is not responsible for the marriage brokers (mail order brides IS what this is commonly known as) ,but rather they keep these marriage brokers 'in check'. that is a HUGE difference my friend. When you have a group of people doing something seemingly wrong, it is a better idea to administrate rather than try to do away with completely. if you do, they just go underground with nobody regulating.
To some extent. However, notice that it makes exceptions for American dating sites. Also, if women need to be protected, why stop there? What about the American women abused by their husband/live-in boyfriend?
i'm not exactly sure why those sights are exempt, but i have a feeling it's because those sights are predominately just dating sights, and not used for marriage broker purposes. American women are abused, and it is sad just as it happens everywhere, but there are separate organizations responsible for dealing with this. we have safe houses, hot lines, and other resources geared towards helping these people.
No disrespect, but sometimes what is considered abuse is Bull.
Just raising your voice in a argument these days is abuse. Not "feeling" safe allows the VAWA to be used.
If my mom was a feminist, she would have left my dad years ago because of his temper problem. But not once has he ever hit her. He does not drink and he is faithful and devoted to her. But she has common sense to accept that my dad is a man and not a Magina and the common sense to know good men are hard to find.
Sorry, but I really have a low opinion of her and Mail Order Bride is not the right term to use. Besides, if that term was right, than I could just easily have my beloved shipped to me in a box for a shipping fee. Also, I would not be traveling to meet her
if someone has 10 good qualities, and 1 bad one, you should focus on the 10 good ones. Layli is doing all SORTS of things to bring about equality, how about you? just because it's not all better (injustice to women) does not mean work isn't being done to fix it. it's a lot to fix and isn't going to happen overnight :( but you can't argue that there is progress in this. what you may not realize is, that up until recent times and the development of IMBRA, it was as easy as having a bride shipped.
You are right about qualities. Now if only AW did that and they would have no trouble finding a husband.
And I am doing much more than Layli ever has to promote equality, by trying to get this Draconian law overturned. IMBRA has set back equality.
You know, we should apply that law to women so that they have to turn over information about how many times they have been raped/accused a guy of rape, prescription drug use, times married/divorced before they can say hi to a foreign man so its =
i do agree that there are women who falsely accuse a man of abuse, but there are even more women who truly are abused and never say anything out of fear. it's a double edged sword, and i think both parties should be reviewed before a relationship is made. this is why i don't agree with marriage brokering at all though. it seems that relationships stemming from friendships, instead of strangers, is a better way to go. i don't mean to speak for anyone, really, just my own thoughts :)

@yekeshgh1 that's so wonderful :) it's amazing that more people haven't also come to that realization, because of the obvious sense it makes but...
are you a Baha'i as well?

Yes Layli, if you go through history you will see that jews have always been hated. I could only watch the first 22 seconds.

Practice what you preach. If you are serious about equality, repent your passage of IMBRA
