  • great job, this song i very sad.

my sister is 5 months pregnant and i never really gave a thought to how i would be right now if she had an abortion. i am glad she has decided to keep the baby but i know that it must be one of the hardest thing to do, to give up something that could have been.:(

but i think how he could have felt when this happened it must have been nerve recking. it makes me soo sad.

  • Great job!

  • I was clapping at the end and saying bravo!! Abortions are no joke.. BRAVO~!!!!!!

  • sensational work

    5/5

  • I think you guys did a pretty good job making a video to this song. The end could have been a little different, but it was good.

  • actually this song is really about Ben Folds.

He got his girlfriend pregnant in late high school and then had to pay for an abortion.

  • The song is DEFINITELY about him taking his girlfriend to get an abortion. NOT drugs. If you listen closely every line has a meaning.

The day after Christmas he gets up to take his girlfriend to get it done. He takes her to the doctor; hence :"they call her name at 7:30"

When it talks about him pacing around the parking lot its because shes getting it done and he's nervous.

"I walk down to buy her flowers, and sell some gifts that I got" He sells his Christmas gifts to pay for the abortion.

  • I really liked it. It looks like you put a lot of effort into this. It comes off as a little rough in some places, but I definitely enjoyed watching it. I feel you did justice to a very powerful song. Well done! :)

  • To me the song never felt like a song of people breaking up. But anyways the video itself is good, I just don't think it (the song) all fits in that well with the video.

  • its about drugs

  • noo its about him taking his gf to have an abortion back when he was in college

  • definitely drugs

  • definitely drugs

  • One of my favorites.................

  • Zan Thorak... ur pretty much a tool, people are on here to give u constructive criticism, and ur just being an ass

  • I'm a tool now? I don't really see how I am a tool. Enlighten me. (Why can't people just type in English. This is so frustrating. I feel like I'm talking to hormonal teenagers and I don't want to talk to hormonal teenagers. UR is not a word. How hard is it to type two more letters? I don't mind "constructive criticism" but I want it from people who care enough to use real words.)

  • The only thing I have to say is that everyone has a different interpretation of every song. What it means to one person, may not be the same for another. THAT is called artistic expression. I don't think the maker of this video should be calling people names for having opinions. It's very childish. He should be happy if someone give ANY input on his work. He should be proud. Not upset, because they didn't find the same meaning. At least someone's listening. It's about expression and learning.

  • Thank you. I agree with you on most of it. All except the line "He should be happy if someone give{s} ANY input on his work" Thats not true. If you had to read half the crap that I do then you would understand how I feel. Some people just have no common sense. Others have nothing better to do but make fun of people for the music they listen to. I apologize for being "childish." I was having a bad day and that was just the icing on the cake.

  • @ZanThorak You are a moron. You don't know how hard it is to get get feedback. You made a shitty music video and got lucky that people saw it...

It's actually fairly depressing. No artist should take feedback for granted.

  • i think the by and girl should have been more cold and awkward toward each other, cause it seems like things are awkward between them in the song. Also it seems like to me that they would be more solemn.

  • Sorry it took me so long to respond to you but I feel it's important. If you can't spell "BOY" then I DON"T GIVE A FUCK WHAT YOU THINK. You wrote two sentences. How hard is it to look over to make sure you spelled everything correctly?

  • oh dear. i can spell boy. it was just a typo i didn't notice. i was just saying what i thought, you don't have to care.

  • I apologize for being so ... rude. I was having a bad day and I had just finished reading a bunch of comments from this kid who didn't know what he was talking about and I get really upset when people have typos. To respond to your comment more rationally...I know they are awkward towards each other. I was trying to show their relationship before they had the abortion. I really didn't plan on what I was going to film until we started filming it, so I just went with what I got. Sorry again.

  • Haha. Some of your posts are pretty amusing.

This is ryan by the way. I still love this video.

  • I don't think he missed the point of the song at all. But I think I know what some people are saying. It just seemed like at points the video wasn't going along with the lyrics, completely. but your point is made and you are spot on about the meaning of the song. So I don't know what the big deal is with some of the reviews. I think you did a good job. People don't realize how tough it is to what you did. Nice Work. I love Ben Folds...always nice to see some fan vids out there.

  • I just want to point out another YouTuber's comment; "very acurate portrayal of a relationship pre and post abortion. *hugs* great job" -gnrfadetoblack. Just to show you that I'm not crazy and this music video is not that hard to figure out.

  • You completely missed the point of the song. It's a well done video, but it's about an abortion. The girl is crying, he is stunned, there's no happiness and coffee dates.. Seriously, this is like.. making me angry.. It's not happy and date time and everything good like that. It's about death and having to be forced into that situation. Did you listen to the words?

  • "Did you listen to the words?" are you kidding me, Did you watch the video?. Did things like "Tacoma General Hospital" and "Birth Center" kinda give you a hint that I knew what the fuck the songs about?

I can't believe the ignorance of some people. By the way its called creative rights you should give it a try some time. I don't even feel like I need to justify myself to you but for you and the rest of the people who like to repeat comment conversations I will.

  • Yes the song is about abortion. "The Day" that takes place in the song doesn't necessarily have to be a single day. The beginning of the music video is the beginning of their relationship. The end of the music video is the end of their relationship. The song *at least in my opinion* is about how having a child when not ready, even if aborted can ruin the relationship.

  • With that said the beginning of the music video they are happy, walking around campus getting coffee, that sort of thing. Then it cuts to the present. She goes to the hospital and gets the abortion. Then towards the end it shows them still together but things are getting difficult. Finally the slap symbolizes the end of the relationship.

  • I'm sorry that I'm being an ass but you talk about being angry after watching it, do you ever think how frustrated I get when people post stupid comments? Everyone always says, "They look too happy." No one ever thinks, "Why do they look so happy?" If you still can't figure out, be nice. Do you know how many "points" can be taken from a single song. Your 'point' the 'majorities point' does not mean it is the right one.

  • So next time post this, "Why do they look so happy?" I would respond much more willingly to that. I also wouldn't type with contempt because of some ignorant asshole.

  • Well, be fair. You're doing an interpretation that is different from the song itself. Some people will naturally get upset, since it was not really what they envisioned.

  • They look a little too happy walking there....good video but you missed the point of the song.

  • lol i like when it says " because i was tired of lying" he layed down on the bed.

  • i always stop for coffie when i get a baby aborted

  • nice video, but i think you missed the point of the song

  • nice slow-motion

  • Actually... Even though it's not Oscar material... I like it a lot. It's light years better than the crap most students make.

  • pfft everyone is a critic!

  • Very nice job!

  • i liked it, alot.

you even made them look like it could possibly be 1997/1998, by how they were dressed.

  • shut up u prick.. its a badass video

  • it is not! this is nice

  • I applaud the effort, but uh, maybe you should learn the director's trick of subtlety. This has all the subtlety of a sledgehammer which makes it kind of silly.

  • great job! you captured the meaning of the song extremely accurately and thank you, THANK YOU for knowing how to play the actual piano part instead of bullshitting your way around the keys. 5 stars

  • Actually, I would have to disagree with you on the interpretation; It's a great video, don't get me wrong, but I'm 99.9% sure that this was a reminescence of taking his girlfriend to get an abortion. It just didn't really seem that way to me in the video. But again, it is a good video...

  • This is really good!

And the slow motion slap was pretty awesome.

  • This was in my humble opinion... excellent.

    Excellent.

  • i dunno if i would have had them holding hands walking in the park before something big like that. dunno..maybe bad acting. they should have been more solemn/sadder. perhaps more close ups on there eyes..tears. oh welll good try anyway

  • I agree with you if you think about it as one day, the day of the abortion or the day she finds out she's pregnant. But I filmed it more as a metaphor for their relationship before they found out.

  • YES thank you you know what the song is about

  • You did a very nice job

    on the video

    I loved the slow-mo slap

    lol

    =D

  • very acurate portrayal of a relationship pre and post abortion. *hugs* great job

  • For whatever it is worth...This idiot is impressed.

  • This is like the first time ive seen a music video that is actually about the song... wow, nice job, 4.9 stars

  • And third, have you seen Ben Folds Five's actual music video? It's very bad, it flat out sucks. The only thing they have going for them is they have the actual band in it where as in mine; believe it or not I'm not actually the signer.

"Shame on the director" really? Come on. It was not that bad.

  • if you think that the real music video sucks then you suck. it portrays the song extremely well with the addition of excellent camera shots and the actual feel for the song. now this music video wasn't that bad but if you compared it to the real video then it looks like shit.

  • Yeah, but music video's are never a literal interpretation. Don' get me wrong though, yours was great! Four stars! ****

  • Was that you? You're much cuter than Ben Harper

  • Second of all they are in college and the rest of the music video is about how a great relationship failed because the girl got pregnant. If any of you have been in a serious relationship where your partner slapped you, that is a definite sign that things are over.

  • Okay, first of all when in this song does it flat out say that it's about abortion? I know it's about abortion but he never says, I don't have to say it, it's implied! I do show a scene in a hospital with "Birth Center" on the sign. (By the way, it's illegal to film in a hospital).

  • Exactly I'm pretty sure a couple dealing with something as heavy as abortion is going to fight at some point.

  • I love the song, and the message that comes with it. However I do not think the video clip does it any good, and just makes it look like the song is about to fighting teenagers. Shame on the director.

  • No offense, but if you're gonna make a music video, make sure you know the story of the song at least, it isn't him just fighting with his girlfriend. It's about him getting an abortion with her when he was in high school. I saw that you were at a hospital, but it was just so random and I'm sure anyone could get confused by it.

On it's own, I guess it's a fine school project, but I'd say just choose a better song that you know well before doing this again.

  • Not sure any music video can do a song about abortion justice, poor choice...

  • that wuz so kool

  • this was pretty good. nice job.

  • i really enjoyed this.

one of the best fan made music videos for this song.

    5 stars. and a favorite.

  • This song makes my heart break every time. Heheh. Cool video. I like the slow-mo slap. Nicely done. lol
