Can I get some advice here please? I had a real bad knee injury years ago, have attempted to squat, I can do it but it's not comfortable. Find this exercise a good replacement, but can't go heavy! Literally 40Kgs each side is my limit, not because of strength more comfort. I've been doing 30-40 reps x 4 sets for a few weeks, will it make a difference to leg size, or will that only come with real heavy presses? Hate the thought of not doing legs and being an 'upper body guy'!
@fuckoffno Your funny. You say he trains like a bitch when all of these video's are instructional. He can shoulder shrug 4 plates for reps. I don't think that makes him a bitch. Along with the other shit he can do.
@Singetally lol 4 plates is nothing and he does it with horrible form because he wants the 'reps' and his shoulders are out of proportion to his retard chest go look at zyzz you ball licking stupid cunt :L
@fuckoffno Zyzz did steroids (Omg start flipping out!!!) and he honestly acted like a douche a lot of the time. He was a really arrogant guy. rip...but what do you mean watch zyzz, he doesn't have instructional video's....
@Singetally lets be honest we all know he didnt do steroids he just mastered CYCLES and ate perfectly and you dont see instructional videos just watch the guy with the best shape in your gym do it, if it looks like hes doing it wrong then there you go dont do that but why you'd be using this machine is mindblowing as its absoloutely useless Learn proper squat technique bro
@teddybear1829 He trains to look good as a model not as a body builder. He is healthier than all of those huge guys that shoot up. I no for sure Scot would walk all over them in endurance, cardio, and athleticism. Not to mention his heart is most likely stronger.
There doesn't seem to be anyone else from scotthermanfitness . com, yet our man still introduces himself the same way. In a way, it takes his ego out of things, makes him part of his company and not the face of it
@monfuckinstrosity You call this guy skinny? pahh bull shit... he might not be the biggest guy in the world but hes strong as fuck anyway.. you dont have to be a hulk to lift much tbh... maybe you are one of those fat chicks and just are jealous? just quit it <.<
my friend does the "one leg press" for this machine for the calf muscles, he places half the sole on the machine, presses with the toes, and back with the sole on it. Does that hurt your knees?
Nah it is ok, it's a usual way to work out the calfs since you can often load it with more weight+it's usually more comfortable then most calfmachines
@wheredah0odat Higher reps is unnecessary for training the bigger muscles in your legs. When doing squats, leg curls and leg press you should be in the 5-10 rep range, depending on your goal.
However when doing calfraises you should aim for at least 10+ reps per set with a HEAVY weight.
@kripposoft wrong wrong wrong. you should train all rep ranges for you bigger muscles in your legs. doing 6 reps every set every workout is only going to get you so far. include 20 reps squat every now and then and watch your legs grow.
Have you ever tought how much you left swet and your own germs on those expensive devices because of not wearing a shirt. And how much you can get from that? It goes either way. At least use a towel...
another thing, training without a tshirt on using the equipment is not hygienic. this person here is nothing but a showoff i hope he wiped down the machines after he used them
This type of leg press machine is not manlet friendly hence why i must resort to light wieght squats after deadlifting as if my lower back wasnt stressed enough. might aswell stick to the leg extensions
Respond to this video... well you can also see which muscles are being worked with a tshirt off - plus he's getting all the female viewers this way lol , its a nice marketing ploy - same reason all the twi hards watch Twilight - cuz of that Jake werewolf
if you adjust the seat back so your laying down more you'll work your glutes. right now hes workin the lower portion of his quads and some hams on the way back down.
Thanks for this video! I'm trying to add more compound exercises to my workout, though I've found that I can't do squats (injured knee). I'll be trying this machine for the first time tomorrow. Thanks for the tips on how to do this correctly.
@Agonar81 Try to stretch your legs more before you workout. That might be the problem. Is it in your knee cap that the stinging is occuring? If so you might be locking you legs during the workout which eventually cause injury. Never lock during any workout. If none of these are the problem causers then you should go to your docter.
@iHubble reccommending stretching for preventing injuries just shows what a jerk you are. There is no evidence that stretching will help you, prevent pain or injuries. It might help, and then again it might not, it might also be wors for your muscles to stretch, noone knows since their are no studies.
To improve the burn a little more, try to get the weights as close to possible to the other weights, but don't let them touch. This causes you to go slower and work harder.
spot on with explaining how to do this exercise and same goes for the squat on what u said about making sure u dont let ur knees go by ur toes and that u do not lock ur knees out when extending ur leg.not only does it increase the chance of injury but u take the tension away and u therefore defeat the purpose of the exercise, u wanna work the muscle, down my gym i c people doing it all wrong and dont have clue, they constanly have there feet wrong, knees over toes and jerk out the movement!
The leg press is a great exercise but my favorite leg exercise is the squat. I think it's my favorite exercise period. I like all the variations of the squat. The squat also fixed my lower back problem which was a surprise.
squats RULE...but only if you don´t have back and/or knee problems (like me!)...so the leg press is the next best thing...as to the correct way to use the machine: i´ve heard millions of variations from all the so-called knowalls one meets in the various gyms around the world....for me, it´s simple: if there´s no pump, or there´s pain, then i´m doing it wrongly
Yeah there are many guru nuts that says there's one way, but there are indeed many ways. It all depends on how much quads, glutes and/ or hamstrings you wanna train with it. Just like mana guru nuts say you should not go too deep with squads while many natural weight lifters have been doing deep squads for years and never had any joint problems. In the end thought, we can all agree, the leg press is an excellent exersize!
The leg press - probably the worse exercise in the world. Non-functional, supported, machine-based exercise. Also, who says that having the knees go over the feet is bad? Have you even seen an Olympic lifter perform a snatch?? The next time you go up a flight of stairs, check your knee position compared with your feet. You will see knees over toes. No offense, but your legs are damn skinny and weak looking. You need to squat buddy! Forget the leg press, leg extensions, etc. SQUAT!!
Dude Im glad you are a supporter of the GOD of all exercises (the squat) as i myself am,
but come on dont say leg press, leg curls and extensions are bad. They are alll very important for developing well SHAPED quads and hams. leg press lets you push heavier weights then you could with a Free weight squat, and the isolation exercises are good for detailing.
Jeez dude, you clearly don't work out your quads/hamstrings/calves very often, they look disproportionately smaller than the upper body. My advice, instead of concentrating so much on chest and arms, try doing some damn legs.
It is incorrect to say that this machine/exercise works the hamstrings, cause it does not. Yes, the hamstrings contract as you extend the hips but they lengthen as you extend the knees, so since you do both in this exercise at the same time, they cancel eachother out and the hamstrings remain pretty much inactive, although under tension.
y'all. i heard if i take off my shirt when i lift weights i will lift 300% more on all my lifts. can someone please confirm/deny this statement. thank you.
@SteveSCENE33 There's actually a TINY bit of truth in this. Generally, if you take off your shirt for any workout I think it will increase your intensity, especially if you're one to get turned on by looking at yourself working out. Pretty much irregardless, it will make you more aggressive due to the increased flow of testosterone, as I would think that since being shirtless would make you feel more manly, and in turn, providing your body with more testosterone. It all sounds silly but it's true
I have that leg press machine at my gym... It's annoying because, when performing the full range of motion, my butt raises off the platform unless if I grip my hands firmly on the arm support, which wears me out faster. Not a well thought out machine. I prefer the seated leg press descending from a lower angle.
Hey Scott.. <- Mike here.. uhm,.. im 15 years old.. im taking Creatine, BSN 'Syntha-6'... ZMA before bed, Multi vitamin, L- Glutamine.. and i'm Doing Biceps Back... triceps chest... legs... abs.. week split.. and im wondering if i should buy a weight gainer? or antyhing..
i weigh 125 and i bench 135, squat 185, deadlift 185, and i want to be a pro bodybuilder some day.. any reccomendations?
@jordanlarson dude u dont and shouldntbe putting all that shit into ur body at 15! exercise is good at all ages but for you just eat well no supplements maybe a protein shake and a good multi but thats it. at your age your body hormones are wayyyyy wayyyy more powerful than any man made supplement out there so take advantage of that. :)
@jordanlarson I say disregard everyone else, if you want to do it do it!! according to your body type its depending, you seem like an ectomorph right off the back so I'd say go with a gainer but the most important part is your diet, fix your diet and tighten it up and then everything else is accessory
Hi Scott ..Thanks for showing the proper way to do this type of leg press,, I would like to have a question regarding this exercise ...Would this exercise put lot of pressure on the lumbar spine ? Since i had lumbar disc surgery , i don't wanna do the 45 degree leg press anymore, but still wanna work on my lower body..Thanks
Hi, during our athletic PE class a guy was using a different version of this machine. It allows you lift a lot of weight. The guy put 800 pounds (I am not exaggerating.) But he was locking his knees. Is this really bad for you? I was debating weather to tell him or not because there was a whole group of guys there cheering him on. Should I tell him its bad to lock your knees or leave him be? Because I know its way easier to lift more if you lock your knees. thanks! :D
one question, at the gym on my lower body days i use machines for my legs instead of free weight squats and deadlifts and thats because of ankle and knee injuries. do machines build muscle mass in your legs is what i'm asking really?
yay - this is one of the few machines i actually use (mainly do cardio)
question though: at my gym the seat is always almost straight up, not at an angle like yours. Never seen it in any other position so i dont know if it can move, why is that? is it a problem?
Hrmm grungy old gyms: I think UT Austin qualifies in that department for old gym equipment :) I'll have a look around. I'd think I wouldn't be able to reach my potential just by putting plates on my feet.
Hey Scott, I was wondering if there are any machines that work the Tibialis Anterior (front shin). There're machines for the calves, but not for this muscle that I've seen.
this exercise is mainly for the quads and glutes, right? and by opening ur feet and closing them on the pad ,u either concentrate on the quads or glutes, is there such thing scott?, coz im not sure about that..
Another great video by Scott, natural body builder. Been getting youtube 'recommendations' where these body builders have bloated abdominals (it's kinda gross looking). I got an idea what does that I think...but I'll hold judgment.
You're so good at teaching us how to not kill ourselves at the gym LOL! You'd definitely be great at teaching a fitness class at your old high school. You seem like a pretty damn good role model,so I hope it all works out!: )
Does the distance between your legs matter? (As in, the farther apart they are, the more they'll work your inner thighs and if they are together they will work your gluts?)
My trainer had me use a similar machine. The only difference I noticed is that the seat is on rails and moves back, while the footrest remains in place. Are these machines the same, just a different style?
scott you rock man.

asrsniperx 1 year ago

Because I know its way easier to lift more if you lock your knees. thanks! :D

good video though.
one question, at the gym on my lower body days i use machines for my legs instead of free weight squats and deadlifts and thats because of ankle and knee injuries. do machines build muscle mass in your legs is what i'm asking really?
thanks.

Oh and I love this machine, huge fan of leg press machines.

How long were you at the gym filming all the parts?
AntiMale 2 years ago
yay - this is one of the few machines i actually use (mainly do cardio)
question though: at my gym the seat is always almost straight up, not at an angle like yours.

There're machines for the calves, but not for this muscle that I've seen.
jrg305 2 years ago
I had no idea I was using the machine wrong! I would always lock my knees. Thanks for showing this vid!!! :D

I hate using this machine at my gym. The range of motion is so limited that it does absolutely nothing for me. The 45 degree leg press is much better.
By the way, Scott, will you make videos on how to do free weight exercises.
RelicHunter321 2 years ago
Does the distance between your legs matter? (As in, the farther apart they are, the more they'll work your inner thighs and if they are together they will work your gluts?)

My trainer had me use a similar machine. The only difference I noticed is that the seat is on rails and moves back, while the footrest remains in place. Are these machines the same, just a different style?
