I thought these had real tape in them. You should all throw yours in a raging fire before throwing yourselves in for paying such a ludicrous price for, what turns out to be just another digital piece of feces.
Hi Madlove! ignored by who? I don't buildt these babies, nor have I ordered my Mello at BCM...my advice would be, terrorize BCM daily with emails, till they answer, and if thats not enough, you can still beg your money back.
but beware: I would'nt want my money back, because the M4000D is worth the wait. and just to let you know, I ordered mine, even before it was mentioned on the Mellotron com Website, much longer than a year ago, and had to write literally well over 50 mails!
I just got my M4000D and I was wondering how many sounds does yours have? mine only has 25 sounds and I''ve read that the M4000D normally comes with 100 sounds...
Hi, yes, I'm one of the first, who got the Mello, and I have a very OLD software on it. I met Markus Resch 2 days ago at the MuMe in Frankfurt, he had the new Software with him. He thought I only have 10 Sounds on my Mello, but (like you) I have 25...so he took the Flash Card back and said, that it would't be good if I update the Mello now, better I wait another month, when all the 96 (not 100) Sounds and the new Update is available.
Does anyone know what's going on with these? I ordered and paid for mine in August of last year and was promised delivery by November. I have not heard a word since then and have not received any answer to emails.
If anyone knows what's going on with these I would deeply appreciate any information! Thank you.
How does the keyboard feel compared to an M400 or MkII? Can you affect the beginning of a note by the amount of pressure you exert on the key or does the key just work as an on/off switch?
it feels like the real deal, I'd never had a MkII under my Fingers, but it feels like a very well maintained M400.
yes, exactly: it is NOT like an on/off switch, the deeper you press, as louder it gets. that was one of the main programming difficulties (as Markus Resch told me) but it works flawlessly. Of course you can turn off that Option and have your "on/off switch".
the Samples are from the original Masters, as Mellotron (the Maker of this M4000D) is the owner of the original tapes. they are uncompressed 24 bit digital, as close as you'll ever get to the real deal. Unlike it's infamous Cousin from Manikin, which used old tapes from Trons. (and it's cheaper, AND made from wood, with wooden Keys, made bye the guys, who make the Keyboards for Steinway Pianos...!
I've now owned the M-Tron software, the Memotron from Manikin and just took delivery on the Markus Resch MELLOTRON 4000D.
THERE IS NO COMPARISON! I am not an audiophile whatsoever, but there is a SIGNIFICANT difference in the quality of the samples in the Mellotron 4000D. 24-bit sampling was the way to go. It's probably as close to having real tape in the machine as possible. It's made out of wood...it's a beautiful machine. The feel of the keys, as well, is pretty stunning.
Hi Garret, cool! congrats for this beautiful instrument, I'm eager to see your posted Mello Clips! how many sounds are on your machine right now? and what Version is your M4000D (check under System Info) mine is 1.2 / 2010-08-16
Can you be a little more clear about why the quality is superior to the Memotron?
I dont see why it should be so -- Hoffman used a sample rate of 32kHz = audio bandwidth of around 14kHz. The useful bandwidth of original Mellotrons was lower than this. To me the 4000D sounds juiced up with digital efx, reverb, etc. The raw sound of a mellotron is nothing like these 4000D Utube demos. If you tweak the sound of the Memotron Rack unit you'd be surprised how good it can sound.
@fueledbylove No...I can't. I loved the Memotron and I love the Mellotron 4000D. The samples sound "thicker" to me. I'm not an audiophile, nor is my hearing the greatest. There are no onboard effects on the 4000D...just raw samples. The Memotron was wonderful with there little onboard FX, but it was just a pain in the ass to load it everytime you wanted a different sound. They are both wonderful machines. Personal preference.
Thanks for the demo! I REALLY want one of these and I could figure out where to put it if i did (I am OUT of space!) but in a few weeks I start a new job with a 25% pay reduction so . . .I have to not buy anything for a long while . . . :-(
...no character selected, I hope that will be possible in a future update.
At the moment there are 24 different sounds on the M4000D, I hope I'll get the rest of them soon (Should be around 99 Sounds).
The Unit is still kinda BETA Version, a little bit buggy, but nothing I couldn't live without it, as soon I have time, I'll send some requests to MR...but I'll leave him now this year...I guess I sent way too much mails to him :-)
HI Damon, I have my Electro 3 @ the rehearsal room right now, so I can't compare it in realtime. But what I know: both Instruments sound VERY good and usable, the new M4000D has a "Character-Option" where you can change the tonal character Between "Chamberlin M1" (very little coloration) and an "M400" (little more colration of the sound) I like the M400 better. Markus Resch told me, there will be also a MKII-Character in a future update. Unfortunately its not possible to have ...

Thanks for your (fast) reply!
Luckily I'm not the only one who "only" has 25 sounds, that's a relief anyway...
So basically what you're saying is that I should wait for the next update in about a month.
By the way, should there have been a flash card included in the package? since I haven't seen any anywhere in there.
Thanks again!

@Earthasphagnum
Hi again, no there was no Flash Card. Contact Maruks Resch from mellotron com, he'll advise you how to go on with the upgrades. best wishes.

@robyale terrorize BCM till you get an answer, or get your money back...but I'd say, wait for it, because it's worth it.

How much does this cost? I've been looking for a price online but can't seem to find one.
