Not even fifteen years ago I was reading reports of misery, alcoholism, drug use(and dealing)in reservations. Nowadays they have casinos. Great for them. I hope it BEGINS to compensate them for 150 years of misery.

This isn't a road to serious scholarship on the matter of Native American history or culture, but it will give you a feel for the level of alternate societal developement and pit falls they experienced here in North America. Read the "People of ........" series of books by Kathleen O'Neal Gear and W. Michael Gear. They are extremely entertaining and very accurate in the use of known scientific facts where possible. They had issues, they had greatness.

Heh. One thing the History Channel said that really cracked me up was that about a third of men(boys, actually) abducted by indians(pre 1850s) and half of the women did NOT want to go home. Their life was just as hard and the indians were nicer to each other.

The current system can not sustain itself much longer. They have known this for 60 years and have been trying to fix it. The longer they put it off the more expensive it becomes. The public option is like any other insurance company and for the most part it will be sustained by the premiums people pay. The fact that people think it is free is a misconception. For lower income people the cost will be based on income... but most people who would get free care are already doing so.

No I mean the entire system. Private insurance premiums keep going up while wages stay the same. They decide who lives and dies. Health reform is definitely going to happen. If they do not include the public option in the plan we are all SCREWED. Most of the people I know without health insurance have trouble paying their car insurance. They can not handle the added expense of being required to have health insurance at the current rates. Kids in college don't have money for that.
