@paulflute - Well, maybe we're being too hard on the videographer. Maybe he is a struggling, misunderstood auteur. Maybe it was meant to be avant-garde...
If I was one of the people trying to convince people that I was a human I'd say the following: "What do you do after eating a vegetable? Put her back in her wheelchair."
I'd like to see a computer program use profane humor to convince people that it is human.
touring test is hard for a computer - it would have to dumb down its answer - and get mad when not believed - it would have to say i dont know when asked what is 5421389706 divided by 6079831245
You have to find the link manually by going to the main website > EVENTS > AUDIO AND PAST EVENTS > FIND THE EVENT (the date of the event is 4th of may (bottom of the second page when this was comment was added)) Hope this helps :)
I once accused a real human being on a tech support chat of being a robot. He was not a very convincing human. He didn't even deny being a robot, which I found strange.
@FutureMillennium you can download the full audio file here: thersa.org/events/audio-and-past-events/2011/a-defence-of-humanity-in-the-age-of-the-computer. Thank you for the suggestion to add in the links.
@theRSAorg Cheers. The page says "Sorry, the page might have moved" though. Am I missing something? Also, the video description would be a good place for the link.
The true is, we arent like machines, we are machines. Logical system of matter is in everything. There is no diference between wood, stone, silicon chip or brain. It is only in configuration of atoms, that can do complex logical operations with different power. You discover true in this century.
Just replace current human robots (desperate masses seeking "jobs" in distorted economy) with real robots. Its technically possible. No one really needs computers for chat with so many people around, at this point.
I feel adamant that I could determine if something is a computer in the Turing test myself, at least at current technology. I can't help but think that the reason that the 2008 program that convinced 75% of the judges was a result of picking overly-scientific judges. I mean, just ask them as many societal pressure points as possible... make them upset and the line between ppl and computers is going to be razor sharp. Silly scientists...
@zassounotsukushi And yet, so many kids are outsourcing their social needs to the internet; there are many Youtube channels out there dedicated to simply showing a group of friends, hanging out, and people watch these videos in preference to actual human interaction. Scary; just because there's a surplus of us, doesn't mean we want to talk to said surplus.
It's scary to have computers do all kinds of stuff.

You guys need a different filmmaker. Super-slow dissolve to the profile of the guy listening? A closeup of the speaker's armpit?
Surely, RSA can do better.

I hope those computers who fooled the judges are better than the Loebner winner bots. I really do.

Humans are flawed, and therefore, it should be the machine that must convince another machine that it's "behaving humanly."

I assume the book is Brian Cox's newly published book, "The Most Human Human: What Talking with Computers Teaches Us About What It Means to Be Alive."
It might make sense to add a link to where the book can be purchased in the lowbar?
