I saw him in a tiny club in New Haven CT in the late 80s. I sat like three feet away from him all night. something I will never forget. one thing in remember was feeling I could just flick that fiddle out of his hands with one finger. Holds it so gentle!
Just had to put some Vassar on here tonight!!! What a incredible guy met him and Floyd Fest a few years ago. Asked me if I would like to hold his fiddle I said thanks but no sign my guitar though he smile and signed
...wrong...see "Crossing the Catskills" -- an old album featuring Vassar and David Bromberg...it's from Rounder Records and was released in 1973...the first track is "Paddy on the Turnpike"...it's almost to the note the same as what he's playing in this video...
I have almost everithing what Vassar was recorded. Like many songs same but different names...check Fiddle patch-Oklahoma Stomp....tanx for comments anyway.

Greaty tune and excellent fiddling. Too bad he isn't backed by guitar, mandolin and banjo

Vassar could take an old war horse like "Paddy" and simply make it his own. He is just, freakin' outrageous!

Avalanche is uniqe Vassar song, both songs have same chords, but Paddy is traditional and have much simple melody.
