I saw this movie when I was really young, like 10-12 and cried myself to sleep. Then I found the book and tortured myself further. Saddest movie and book EVAR!

There was also a sequel tv movie, "Sunshine Christmas", starring Cliff DeYoung, Barbara Hershey, Meg Foster.

Sam takes his kid (the baby from this movie - now 8 or 10) to his parents home in Claude, Texas for Christmas.
