i love victor wooten but the baddest man on the panet when it comes to playing electric bass is not Vic, its the Budha, Bill Dickens....if you have never heard him then you have not heard the best ...the stuff he plays makes Vic shake his head.
Bill has more chops than Victor, but I think Victor has a much more musical style than Bill, who tends to be more of a "shredder" bass player. In my opinion Victor is better because of that. His music brings more beauty than Bill's

I've seen Victor 5 times live, most of it - close up. Including fretless. By the way, watching Victor live is another ball game. First of all, you don't blink, secondly - your blood gets to move at a very high rate.
Most musicians rehearse a solo before they perform, i dont think that he's playing a "written" solo as much as he is drawing from different licks that he has played before and sound good, he's a brilliant musician, he really knows his shit

i know it sounds shameful, but i like fretless and want one so i dont have to worry about slapping, because i just can't get the technique down! does anybody have any advice?
Slapping takes A LOT of practice. It may be that you're trying to do too much. Start with slapping open strings, do this at various tempos. Eventually when you can do this comfortably, go on to slapping all 4 open strings in random succession, then try slapping out scales. When you feel comfortable with that, start to introduce popping. Be patient and put in a lot of time and you will be able to slap well.

i know it sounds shameful, but i like fretless and want one so i dont have to worry about slapping, because i just can't get the technique down! does anybody have any advice?

buy a bass with a thumb rest. it will help you with slapping and help you slap ghost notes between the notes you slap

Slapping takes A LOT of practice. It may be that you're trying to do too much. Start with slapping open strings, do this at various tempos. Eventually when you can do this comfortably, go on to slapping all 4 open strings in random succession, then try slapping out scales. When you feel comfortable with that, start to introduce popping. Be patient and put in a lot of time and you will be able to slap well.
