yea those steam whistles are pretty creepy lol. But its one of the interesting things i like about living in and being from York. Its weird when ur my age and get used to it over the years haha. You can hear it anywhere around Springettsbury and Spring Garden Twp i kno that for sure, but idk how far it goes

It is a rare type of steam whistle called a Mockingbird that was originally designed to make a siren-like sound for fire signals. Inside the whistle is a sliding baffle that shortens or lengthens the chamber inside the bell, raising or lowering the musical pitch. The steam is turned on and the operator pulls a cord that moves the baffle. It is very difficult to play music on it, and there are very few of these whistles still in existence.
