LMFAO you are one funny motherfucker man, been watching all of your videos and you have the skills and talent to pull off some damn good modeling, and a good sense of humor you don't often see in this hobby. good shit bro, good shit.
@bnsf9876 I hot glue the cork down then I simply use Track nails to hold down the flextrack. Nothing else is needed in fact. Then after the track is painted I apply the ballast on it. Then I use white glue mixed with 50/50 water to glue the ballast down. I FIRST spray all the ballast down with water that has a small amount of rubbing alcohol in it. i soak the ballast by spraying it then apply the glue mix. DONE!
If you solder make sure you clean the area after the work is done, else if there was any acid within the flux it will want to slowly eat away at the work. Try using non-acid flux such as SuperSafe... when done all you have to do is wash the soldered area with water.
@paulknowles100 When I buy train lots from people I ALWAYS keep the track and I have had a ton in the past but I USED to buy it all from M&P Train club but the price there is about $4.50 now so I am fucked just like the rest of you.
Great ideas for tunnels, that will eliminate many headaches! Something I was thinking about was noisy roadbed. Have you ever had this problem with noise resonance?
@callinstead09 Yes I have had that problem but it was with Foam Roadbed not Cork. I originally used Foam, on my layout but every expansion after the first initial build was done using Cork. I have since replaced some older track sections with Cork because of expansions and bad track work. I would estimate my layout mainline to be about 90% cork today. I am very happy with Cork and would NEVER use foam roadbed again nor would I ever recommend it.
@MonsterRailroad Awesome! I always stayed away from foam, but I was a bit confused with all the other methods. All of your videos help out BIG TIME for any future expansions! Thank you!!
GREAT idea with the magnets!!! Our club could sure use that! We have some massively long tunnels that always seem to have derailments. I might just have to do something about that....
gd gd c i live in england when u ballast ur track how do u do the points part am realy unshow how u do it can u help i think its gd how u do all the videos and put the on here keep up the gd work al
@paulknowles100 Hey Paul. I will be working on Phase II this week I think. I have been working on my track work to make sure all is well before I get into the scenery. I am still having issues on the East end and when I resolve it I will be doing phase III. Haters will hate and I am OK with it, fuck em.
Great video as always thank you for the tips and I will hopefully see you at the BIG E in a cpl weeks. You wouldn't happen to be from the spfld. ma area would you?
Al, I was bit with the model railroad fever just a few months ago after buying a cheap little HO set from Hobby Lobby. Since then, I have completely taken over our basement to build a double tier layout. I just want to say HUGE thanks to you, flymanjg, nsmodeler24 and thebige61. One question, have you done any complete repaint/decal jobs on diesel locomotives? You recommend using acrylic paint for such a task? I've got a intermountain KCS ES44AC coming this week, I want to make it a CSX...
You made mention of the turnouts! you didn't Comment on Walther's? With the magnets, you could use as Velcro. It's a good layout and showing I am learning a lot witching!
lol, search up savage flux, thats the kind of flux i have lol. nice video, and hey I got my SD40-2 4 days ago BTW, adn an, TYSVM for hookin me up and thx for the shout out, and man, you should see the new blue box now! OMG!
i know you have your plans made out. but have you ever thought of putting in a coal yard. with a coal loader and unloader on the layout. i think that would be cool to have. also have you thought of buying a steam engine. i myself like diesels. but a steam engine would be something diffrent for your layout.
Al. When you get to gluing down ballast, have you tried Pledge floor cleaner with Future polish? Yup, that's the name. For 50 years, I used white glue, wet water, scenic cement, and alcohol. The Pledge works much better. No mixing, no clumping, no diluting. Just apply right out of the bottle to the spread ballast with an eye dropper. Note: it doesn't work on light weight material like sawdust ground cover, but it's wonderful for ballast. I will use it for the next 50 years.
@avlisk No I have not. For doing ballast I did a video of how I do it. I simply spray it all with Alcohol/water mix and then when it is soaked I simply use 50/50 mix Elmers glue and water. Works best for me and is the easiest.
@iusetano THANK YOU!! That is ALWAYS my goal when I do ANY video and it is to make sure it is NEVER boring but informative then I throw in Jokes to make it FUN!!!
on my layout i have the same backdrop material as you only its the actual wall so the grooves are facing out. should i lay new material over it or could i just fill in the grooves with puddy or Spackle and still have it look right?
@nardp96 Well if it is a LOT of backdrop to mud I would simply redo it with the backside of the Woodpanel and then all you have to mud and sand is all of the joints where the ends join together.
OH HELL NO,you did not just put on that fake beard,LMAOOOO!!!!!!!!! Nice job Mr.Mayo watching these vids puts confidence in me for when I can start my model railroad
Thanks for taking the time and make the video while you rebuild your layout! I am not a train fanatic, but I just love watching your videos.
