So when a person is old enough to work, he has no work ethic, a poor education, and there is no job. Ron Paul would return liberty, and this always spawns prosperity. I agree. why gold was a standard for so long:

- you can smelt it pretty easily to get pure gold (low melting temp)

- easy to reshape

- it doesn't rust away (key!)

- you can melt it down with lead or other metals to hide it and smelt it again to regain pure gold

I think the *idea* of a standard isn't so bad, but limiting yourself to just gold is pretty dumb. Platinum, etc are also very valuable. we also use gold in electronics.

You lack any understanding of money if you think that a gold standard will mean more control by the wealthy. Allowing a private central bank to issue fiat currency and then debase it at will, is the definition of control by the wealthy. A gold standard means that the value of your dollar cannot be debased. You cannot print gold out of thin air, unlike dollars. You should really reevaluate your position.

You're wrong. When the population grows to 20 people, you may still only have 10 coconuts, but because the economy has doubled in size, the value of the coconuts will have also doubled. Now a 1/2 coconut will buy you the same as 1 coconut did before. The value of money is relative.

A deflationary depression, which is what you're referring to, is caused by a contraction of the money supply relative to goods and services, not lack of expansion.

The banks got ahold of so much money during the roaring 20's that in '29 there wasn't enough fiscal stability to support the stock market, and it collapsed on Good Friday. That's what happens with a finite backer of money like gold and silver. Fiat money is based on population and has to be printed or destroyed in pace with it. It's not however, and that's the problem.
