This is my favorite concerto, my favorite piece of piano music....very possibly my favorite piece of all time. And Lipatti's performance is def my favorite of this piece. Argerich rocks my socks off, but Lipatti sends me into literal raptures.
excelent!!! thanks marc! this is one of my favorite play and now that i have discoverd this performance from Lipatti i could say that Schumann would have been happy to hear him play this concert.
There is another live performance of this with Ernest Ansermet conducting from that last few months of Lipatti's life. The liner notes on an old LP, written by Lipatti's widow, explain that at Lipatti's insistence, his doctors drugged him heavily (supposedly at great risk) to kill his fever so he could perform one more time.
Lipatti's Schumann glows...it is so beautiful It makes me cry. I think this concerto is the most beautiful in the entire repertory and the Lipatti version the finest of all...no other performance can compare. Good sound, too, considering this was recorded in the late 1940s. Thank you for uploading! I shall be returning again and again!

I love Richter and Michelangeli, but for me this recording is the best.

You're right. There is another performance with Ansermet conducting, a live one ( not sure
about that) His last piano concert ever while he was very sick. A bit slower but boy, it's
fantastic. Heard that when I was 17, some 40 years ago but will never forget it.

Is this the 1947 recording with Karajan?

@youtubisters
You.re right ! Karajan was conducting and Lipatti was in better shape compared to the
performance later with Ansermet when he was very sick. Different but both awwsome.

Do you have Solomon Cutner's Schumann concerto? if so, please upload. I had a vinyl disc in the early 1960's but lost it. It was superb.
