in sunderland the mackerel season is in progress i caught 6 in around 5 mins but...due to heavy weather the sunderland pier is closed due to weather damage :/
@CaptainClungee You don't get mackerel on the south coast of England. They take herrings from the North Sea, spray paint them and release them from places like Penzance and the Isle of Wight. Taste them and you'll see.
@Polyfooka Yes you do if you don't believe me go down to Seaford on the south coast near Brighton and fish at high tide of the beach and I can guarantee you will catch at least 5. Just use mackerel feathers and a beach caster rod.
it's less cruel to break their necks fairhill if you know how to do it right. simply put your thumb inside their mouth to the roof of their mouth and your index across their forehead and lever their head back till it breaks. personally i carry a flip out stanley knife. and by just putting the blade to their temple and inserting it where you'd imagine their brain to be, they just die instantly. i'd never just leave a fish to die of suffocation. helpful???
i see when you put the mackerel into the bread you did not remove the lateral bones, that can be painful. (assuming that you did not remove bones off of the footage)
oh go hug a fucking tree why dont ya and have a little pixie campfire and sing kumbaya and worship the nature gods and such bullshit ...Its fucking fishing
mackerel is indeed a fishing ground for in Ireland. But mackerel in Ireland has lost it's large fishing fish! Let the fish populate for the next 20 yrs or so... sardines, maybe???

Its amazing how u stand there ripping a fish out the water suffocating it to death & feel nothing, i will never understand ppl like u it has been proven that fish feel pain. Have u never heard the saying dont do to others that u wouldnt want done to urself? For u to have any idea what this innocent fish might be feeling let me put a hook through ur mouth & drag u under the water for just 5 minutes if u survive that & tell me you would like to experience that again i will take my hat off to u
I don't think the Lord had fish in mind when he came up with that piece of advice! But... I'm never one to shirk a challenge: prepare to remove your hat - just give me a minute to put in a bit of hyperventilation.
I think you should get off your high horse and look at the conservation measures we have because of anglers protecting watersystems and fish from poaching, I'd say anyone who holds a rod licence has done more to save fish than you ever have or will.
@pukaman2000 Bio-accumulation of things like mercury and PCBs is worse in fish that live longer; such as sharks and tuna. Mackerel mature around two years old, and only live about seven years anyway, so there isn't time for toxins to accumulate in their livers the way it does in longer-lived fish.
Fresh Mackerel is just about the tastiest fish that swims, it beats tuna by a mile. The trouble is it spoils quickly. It's good to see an angler preserve a modest catch rather than catch a mountain of fish and let them spoil so all they're fit for is bait.
just home from a days fishing at sea off the Bangor coast in Co Down, my god it was slow. things got so bad i made a 10 hook trace which only produced 3 mackerel in 3 hours. but hey, thats fishin for ya
how did u go mackerel fishing and catch like 7 in a day go to castletownshend near skiberin well i dont no how to spell it but in south west of ireland all u need is a line with about 6 hooks with 1 feather of any color but must be bright colors i caught 50 in 1hour
come to australia and you'll catch a 100 in a day, 2 times bigger, and guess wat, we dont eat em, we use them for better quality fish, like kingys and tuna!
Great videos and I agree about using the light tackle. But you really have to start wearing life jackets or PFD (you also have to make people aware of the safety aspect). In a small boat like a dingy it does not make any sense not to. I can understand not wearing one on a charter boat but in a dingy it is a must.
@deniscoghlan I have a heart condition and live in an area where the water can be near freezing even in early summer. If I fell in, I'd die before anyone could get me out PFD or no PFD, so there's no point me wearing one.

@xLampy Next time you catch a "mackerel" give it a good rub with your thumb. When they can't find herring, they use big sprats.

Come fishing in North America some time. Macks are used whole as bait from shore here, 28" is minimum size for stripped bass here.
