  • 1:22 "Who put that there?"

  • Forza is nothing compared to this game! I am unworthy!

  • looks better than the 1st port of ridge racer for the ps1 which also seemed mind blowingly amazing at the time..shame SEGA couldn't have made the 32x free with the game and carried on cartridge support along with the saturn..wish more companies would offer life support for their older consoles instead of having to completely phase them out..surely us consumers are complex enough to realise different formats can exist under the same company umbrella..(maybe i am drunk and nostalgeeeeyoizn) ;/

  • @dannyofthededd If they gave the 32X out for free with a purchase of this game, they would have sold and made so much more, they could have probibly become a major competitor with sony, microsoft, and nintendo today.

  • @supercj12 SEGA aint doing bad as a company these days putting out some good gear on the current consoles.maybe they don't need their own at the moment.shame they dropped the ball back then though..I would've liked to see what could've been achieved at the time with the hardware i loved so much as a young un.

it is the games that matter really although i still love my old MD as a system..shoot me if you like but i love my SNES the same..great machines.great times..

  • @supercj12

Even if the 32X had been a hit, they had two failes consoles afterwards. The Saturn was simply not well marketed, nor could it compete head-on with the PSX (in fact, before Sony revealed the PSX, the Saturn was purely a 2D console. After the specs for the PSX were revealed, they had to slap on some 3D hardware before release.)

And then they made the same marketing mistakes with the Dreamcast, an otherwise great console.

  • this is badass for 32x/genesis, people are retarded for thinking it was a failure just cause it didnt sell well

  • can some body help me, I can get this rom to work for the 32x. It keeps saying its in the wrong format

  • This is a good version, but the 32x should have been able to get really really close to the arcade version. You can tell it's a first gen game.

  • "Virtua Racing"=Will Ferrell

    "Time Bonus"=Don Knotts

  • The growth of 3D graphics was amazing, one year after, was released Daytona USA, and the difference is really huge!

  • I'm still impressed that the game was so advanced for its age.

Everything was actually 3D instead of sprites that look 3D.

    There is a replay view.

    And a cockpit view!

The game must've been like the 360 when it first came out.

  • I only played the 3D ages version. Was it based upon the Saturn version?

  • 3D Ages version was based on the Arcade version. But then again so was the saturn version

  • This is the best version of Virtua Racing on any console. Better than the Saturn version which had more features but was plagued with god awful loading times.

  • Intro music is almost spot on from the original arcade version.

  • The game is much more fun when manual has been chosen. :p

  • I don't know what's wrong with 32X, the graphics are excellent, and expected of the set up.

  • 32x was too expensive and underperforming

  • @noxvet

Most of the games weren't like this. You can count the good 32x games with only your fingers [although, to be fair, there were only about ~50 32x games IIRC].

If you're looking for other good, 3D 32x games, there's Virtua Fighter, Star Wars Arcade, and Shadow Squadron. I'd add Darxide to that list too, but it doesn't play as well as Star Wars or Shadow Squadron [although, it looks far nicer, texture mapped and everything].

There's a handful of great to decent 2D games on it too.

  • I love the intro music

  • VIRCHA RAYSIN!

  • I'm a big lover of this game and I still play it for horus! Check out my retro review channel to see more of this and some others!

  • the game was pretty cool, but the engine sound from the cars sucks ass!

  • Definatly looks better than the racing game on Jaguar.

  • Virtua racing was the reason I bought a 32X for 7 dollars at a flea market.

  • I'm old enough (26) to actually have owned a 32x, I got it when it first came out... I also bought the sega cd, I was such a sucker.

  • so did I (I got them for free though) and I loved them. Thunderstrike and road avenger for sega cd and virtua fighter and the awesome shadow squadron for 32x where my best of the bunch for the respective addons.

  • "I also bought the sega cd, I was such a sucker."

You and me both! I always wondered why I was the only person in my neighborhood to own a Sega CD.

  • actually runs nicer then SNES 3D chip

  • didn't Ridge Racer come out in 1994 (around the same as this game) and kicked its ass?

  • anyone know how to check your megadrive for the 3D game compression chip that can run the cartridge version? would be a big help

    thanks

  • hahaha lol

  • virtual racing = daytona

  • virttuuuaaall RACING

  • at least the time bonus guy wasn't as annoying as the guy who sings "daytonaaaa!"

  • Stupid Modern gamer. DUH! it has only about 10 polygons, but it came out about 20 years ago.

  • 10 polygons my azz!! This game came out it bested all other home technology in terms of graphics and 3d.

  • chill out!

it's as strong as the gba.

    but it's true.

    ...

the guy at the start saying virtua racing needs to die(not literally).

  • the TIME BONUS, however, is not irritating.

and of course it only has 10 polygons, would you expect a Halo 3 style(128-bit) graphics on a 32-bit system?

  • Seriously, would you expect Halo 3 to work on a 32X at full speed?

Besides, this game came out in 1995, so would you expect 3 million polygons in one car in a 32-bit game. certainly not.

and how come KevinReloadedcom gets +2 and i get -2 and -3 for saying the exact same thing?

  • Gotta love the jazzy chords in the intro music. Sounds like Richard Jacques but its prob one of the guys at wavemaster who did it.

  • i have a sega classics cd for my ps2 but i think it has the mega drive version of v.r on it.and the car just drifts all the time its nothing like the one i had on 32x the car drives almost sideways, i think it may have been a programing issue?

i used to have the 32x and vr it had an f1 car and a stock car and something else? can some one help me find it

  • SEGA FOREVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Micro$oft sucker

  • BALLLLLLIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNN

  • yea, I bought that game at game crazy, I just need a 32X adapter thing
