  • if elevator music was this smooth i wouldn't get out

    usually its all midi

  • elevator shred

  • Brilliant..! And this with such a clean, sweet tone, no overdrive/distortion/fuzz or whatever! Love it - btw: 22 people have hemorrhoids in their ears ;-)

  • why guitar is daT???

  • Insanely good improv while not even look at the guitar. Silk smooth sweep picking and tasteful tone, all mashed in one? Yea, this guy is incredible.

  • EguinoxParadox91, much appreciated.

  • Viewers out there, would appreciate if anyone knows the chord progression so I could try to improvise.

  • @MrFeelsogd Bb, Gmin, C, F7, Bb, Ab7, Eb, F7, Dmin, Gmin, Cmin, C7, Cmin, F7. Then repeat.

  • Tigersoul7 and John, so beautiful. May I know what the chord progression is?

  • That was one long elevator ride.

  • Damn good but Monte Montgomery is the best unknown in my opinion.

  • beautiful did ur friend john go to any musical schooling?

  • slick, smooth, and soulful......there are many people who attempt to play the guitar and a few of them develop serious chops, and even fewer of them r able to keep their high degree of technique tasteful......you are in an elite league of guitar playing my friend!

  • Tasteful sweeping. Very nice.

  • hahahahahhah

  • John you're the king!!!

  • I was like woow and then I read you're improvising then you're god for me!

  • This should be the final song on "Guitar hero extreme edition" or something (:

  • The moral is, play of love and not for fame and fortune.

  • Wow! Amazingly talented. I enjoyed this thoroughly.

  • love your sweeps :O :D

  • epic face epic face epic face jizzed in my pants...

  • love your facial expressions bud =D

    you're fucking epic.

  • wow man you are fucking awsome

  • i enjoy playing clean tone, but when i change to distortion it always sounds horrible, cant control the sound of the other strings. Totally sucks when trying to rock it up a bit.

  • I like the phrasing over the shredding but either way it sounds fantastic.

  • What would MAB say to this?

  • 8 out of 10. Very Good.

  • Many people claim to be the greatest, and some have their so called greatest favorites; mine is Pat Metheny, but I would imagine that John loves Pat's playing as well; I hear influences there. Some may not appreciate this old horn player's opinion, but that's cool...JOHN is really one of the GREATEST guitar players in the world...all I can say is this ....VERY TASTY.....EXTREMELY TASTY!

    Thanks for sharing.....Larry Wiseman

  • larrywisemandotcom

  • @larrywiseman lol, I just left a Pat Matheney video. I love pat!

  • Your Phrasing is just amazing.

  • not my style of music but i felt my hips moving lol, but that is some sweet improve brother, cheers

  • your guitar makes me angry >: |

  • amazing guitaring but 1 weird guitar

  • this is the coolest fat guy i've ever seen.

  • rofl his face looks like he is falling alseep sometimes and waking himself up and other times it looks like he is constipated D=

  • he plays very well but he should better buy a semi-acoustic ;D

  • Thats inspiration , that's wat ur eyes tells

  • If you close your eyes...is FRANK GAMBALEEEEEEEEE LOL

  • @tiroso

  • Fantastic playing Man

  • There are so many great guitarists, but for me personally there are very few whose playing can really move me. John Champion is one of a handful of guys who just plays with passion and soul. The sound of the guitar is beautiful and it just sings to me. Eric Johnson is another with a unique sound that I love, as well as Steve Vai, John Petrucci and Gary Moore to name a few. I am after all a rocker at heart, hence my years of rock drumming :)

    Great, great stuff here John.

    God bless...

  • i thought this wasnt inprovised then i read the info!why isnt this guy fucking famous??!!!!

  • kind of just crapped my pants. I mean...seriously, wow...and he hardly even looks at a thing he is doing on the fret board. He must be an alien.

  • This guy is a huge Holdsworth fan amirite?

  • this is nice show of talent man

  • Awesome!

  • my shit flew out of my ass so my dick can fly into my ass. Holy shit crazy guitar work

  • His playing reminds me of Frank Gambale. Such a nice tone. I bet he's a guitar teacher somewhere.

  • Amazing. What is his name?

  • it's so amazing. your friend RULESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My jaw dropped to the floor.

  • I attached the Johnny Hiland video because it's improv too, nothing like John, but pretty killer playing just coming off the finger tips. Not bad at all!

  • I'm IMPRESSED!! I love guitar and know how much you do to play like that. Keep it up and maybe someday I can say I knew you when :-) Your fretted friend

  • muzak

  • Well, it's nice elevator music. Kool

  • at 23 me likes the sweeps! i suck at sweep more than the everything else but i try, i have 3 of the most HORRIFIC improv vids ever, see if theres any worse than mine, you wont find any worse improv vid than mine but this guy can improv better than most people can write, he earned the 93,213 views he got

  • someone ate the the half neck

  • hes one with his guitar!

this is how a guitar player has to play like

  • you are a great, man!

  • legit

  • Great playing! He has an original style....at least I think he does.

  • Very Jazzy! Very soft, not so completely emotive, yet, smooth. Thank god youve got the guitars volume down and its undriven. Your not even using the one bridge pickup, i bet, it sounds like youve got the selector set to a middle combo.

    Very Nice work.

  • that was a LOT better than I thought it was gonna be! haha that kicked ass :)

  • no one noticed this cud be fake look at the stereos behind him u tards rofl

  • So nice! And no tapping, lots of sweeping but good melodic flow.

    Me likey!

Maybe you should get a guitar with more strings? LOL!

  • señor, con todo el respeto, es usted una bestia para la guitarra, en cuanto a misica suave, se destaca mucho, y aprecio un trabajo bien hecho, como muchos de mis compañeros youtuberos. saludos y que mejore mas

  • A chosen one in the vineyard

  • u r an inspiration to me. ur my guitar hero man. hell ur my guitar god!

  • Nice, but how many view will it take until it's no longer unknown. Close to 90,000 at this point.

  • Awesome :D I want to play like this in the future :)

  • He's not even watching!Dang!That rulz!

  • Nice! Weather channel worthy

Super job , music like this takes me to another place thats for sure . Rock On

  • Sir, i am a 13 Year old guitar player, and am just amazed by your guitar playing. You are no doubt one of the most talented guitarists in the world. Your feel and musicality is just unbelievable. As a listener, i can sense the emotion and feel that you are feeling. I hope to practice more and more and become like you. I hope when i upload videos, you will check them out.

    Warm Regards- Kenneth Jang

  • John!!! Your are an amazing example of what a person should be!!! Your Humility and character far exceed your musical ability..... that being said.... I don't know anyone that can do what you do!!! You are the best guitarist in the world!! WOW!!!!

  • Can someone please get this guy a Weather Channel gig!!! But seriously, great job Mr. Champion!

  • great backing track.....

    awesome playing too....

  • OMG THIS GUY KILLS

  • is this a floyd rose guitar?

  • @Softairguy, it's a steinberger, with a similar whammy bar system to a floyd rose.

  • so smooth and clean. very well done :)

  • i swear this is the ONLY time that when i clicked on a "best guitar player clip", i wasn't disappointed after watching the video. of course he's not the best, nobody is. but when i talk to other youtubers about great guitarists i mention john champion in the same breath with guthrie govan and alex hutchings!

  • Amazing! Pure sound, musicality, technique. As we say in french: "I'm on my ass!"

  • Pure skill heart and soul! This guy is astonishing!

  • very very nice who knows how many musicians like this are walking around tnks for show us

  • Wow, i wasn't expecting much....But you are incredible and have insanely wonderful tone.

  • wow! great job, keep up the good work!

  • fucking amazing

  • where can i get tht backing track

  • Crazy playing, clean tone adds to the epicness of the improv imo...Anybody know if these Steinbergers are actually good guitars, apart from looking awesome?

    5/5

  • what kind of scales do u usually use?

  • wooow

    this is totally HOT

  • ok what the hell! where is the head of the guitar?. Im confused, and a little bit scared, how does thjat makes ence without a head on teh guitar, someon please help me

  • Steinberger bro... Steinberger

    Look 'em up!

  • the strings go in the opposite way then would with a normal guitar.. they lock down at the bridge, and thats where you tune it..

  • you tune it from the bottom instead of the top

  • it dosnt tune at the top , its just a rare guitar of choice but they are pretty cool . put it this way, its double the trouble of rigging strings where a floyde rose is .

I want one but their that rare and Im left handed . that probley wasnt informational at all sorry .

  • should do some elevator busking

  • I love that Steinberger.

  • Who cares about the type or style of music, it's the art of playing it the is important and this guy is very good indeed!

  • He plays very great. but i hate cha cha cha :/

  • wow! great stuff : )

  • very nice playing!!

  • This guy is definately a better player than many famous guitarplayers out there.

  • Beautiful andsubtle phrasing and tone... this guy IS one of the best undiscovered guitarists!

  • just goes to show that some of the greatest guitar players in the world are plumberes and teachers and you'll never see them on TV... maybe YOUTUBE, but not TV :) Peace

  • great sweeping

  • where is the head?

    Great playing!

  • its more of a fusion thing sounds nothing like jazz.

  • right... it doesn't sound EXACTLY like Joe Pass or Pat Metheney...

  • that doesnt even make sense.

you saying all jazz has to sound like joe pass or pat.

i dont get it. its funny how many people have put little stupid criticisms in and you got to some shit shredder with no vibrato and horrible phrasing and everyone bum licks them.

    kudos to this john fellow.

  • hey, you're the one who said it sounded "nothing like jazz." I was just being sarcastic.

  • this proves that ill never become a famous guitar player..... if hes not.....

  • you won't with that attitude man.

  • Awesome man!

  • Haha...I love the subtle digs people have to throw in...how could you say he's playing with no feeling, just look at him. This is actually a quite impressive jazz improv...try not to blatantly show your jealousy in the future.

  • I have to say after watching all of his videos, while this particular video did not move me, I am very impressed with the versatility of his playing, and his attitude.

  • Comment removed

  • what kind of guitar is that

  • Hazard a guess and say that guitar is a Steinberger, at least that is the best guess I can give!

  • truly amazing...

  • Cool guitar ;)

  • You're awesome, but that guitar gives me the creeps.

  • very nice, good job!

  • i love how you used the lounge music background (sorry, the best way i could describe it) to help bring to tone and the feeling of the composition here. Overall 10/10

  • lol you need to know gustavo guerra

  • He's pretty known.

  • 2:09 Wes Montgomery Influence!

  • Wow John! what a great melodic player you are! Nice job. How refreshing!

  • ...very fluid...

  • can i ask where is his guitar's headstock

hahah he must of made it

  • Very nice!

but I was sure the greatest unknown was Shawn Lane?!

  • shawn lane was known, not as popular as satriani of course but he wasn't unknown for sure

  • Wow, this is beautiful. Your sense of melody is unbelievable. I LOVE your runs and sweeps, you NEED to be discovered!!

  • Wow... love your improvised.

  • wtf that was improv?

  • I was thinking exactly that.

  • You are a master of jazz scales. Incredible sir

  • There's no question that you play

"tastefully",and I want to thank your friend

for "exposing" you! Do I see a blues jr.

  • dude y r u not famous

  • Perfect? The speed you take it at perfect timing... what more you want me to say, nice feelings man ;) I play guitar too, but hell i aint near your level of playing. Would probably be known as a beginner next to you haha!
