Hmmmm... you seem to be very focused on the engineering. If I'm not mistaken, the engineer would have made sure that the wheel doesn't 90 degrees on landing (jeopardizing people's safety), and thus when they are still standing be regarded as "great"!
That would have been a great video if you hadn't ruined it with your cheezy video editing and your inability to form a lucid thought. And what's with the music? It sounds like something someone from the 1980s with brain damage would compose as part of their rehab.
Man, did you barely learn how to use editing software and thought the retarded song would fit the retarded text?...and whats up with the reporter style description? just say "Great pilot land plane with faulty landing gear."
Great engineering and good pilot you must be taking the piss. If it was great engineering it wouldn't of happened in the first place and all the pilots did was land as they usually would wouldn't be suprised if the computer did it and for the muppet thinking its a boeing back to aircraft recognition school for you mate
You are a retard. You act like this video is amazing, and try to look important. I wo0uld rather have seen just the plane land than have all the shitty writing across it.
This is kind of contradictory, you said they were all saved because of great engineering but the wheels came out on the side instead of forward, that was a engineering mistake, so if the engineering mistake never would have happened then this whole incident could have been avoided.

The point he was making was that it didn't collapse even though the tyre was turned 90 degrees to the direction of motion, and it didn't catch fire, those were sparks...
OMG, come on, every plane crashes if the owner does not invest in maintenance. It's like saying, what these US soldiers did in Abu Greibh, is the normal and general behavior of all US soldiers. Is that true? No. Airbus builds as great airplanes as Boeing does and everybody who says different, has no idea or is full of ignorant national pride.
Well there is a new report, that planes (Airbus AND Boeing), owned by Air France do crash 4 times as often as planes of other big Airlines (American Airlines, Lufthansa, United Airlines or Quantas) do. So it has nothing to do with the plane itself, it's the owner who is responcible!
gprovopo, no great engineering in the aviation industry ?? would you mind elaborating on that ? Maybe you mean that the concept of flying is simple ? (or became simple once we figured out what makes planes fly). In my opinion, I think there are lots of engineering greatness in aviation, but they are subtle and not very clear to the naked eye.
Aviation is based on great engineering concepts. But when no failover mechanism is used in such a critical but simple system as the front wheels, this shows clearly that cost reduction shrunk any enginnering grateness of this industry.
Making a flying vessel is a great achievement, but when safety is dropped by such a lack of system's redudancy......fail.
Additionally....same planes 30 years ago...same stuff today....lack of evolution too :(
seriously dude...how can u say that. an airplane is no doubt a true marvel of engineering..atleast I think so..I am wondering whats ur major in engineering!
As I stated above it could be if safety and quality held the first priority. Defining the physical principles of flying was a true marvel of science.Implementation wasn't that marvelous though.
And my major in engineering is nanotechnology, which of course lies with the second major...informatics technology.
yeah!...nanotech really fascinates me...its amazing how there are the tiniest mechanisms which perfectly fit together and even move..I wonder what would be the order of tolerances in mems devices..
I remember watching this LIVE a few years back...
I was screaming my encouragement to the TV the whole time.....
Thumbs up if you think the pilot deserved a raise after that landing!

Why was the front landing gear rotated 90 degrees? :O
TanksSkool 10 months ago
@TanksSkool The landing gear was rotated 90 degrees because that is a better design for a landing gear.

They don't control the nosewheel on landing. As soon as the nosewheel touches, it locks.

Too bad the engineers didn't plan a way for the landing gear front wheel to not lock sideways. This is an engineering defeat, not a victory.
edgeyzfr1350 3 years ago
not a total defeat it withstood the stresses without failing
gocaca 3 years ago
there is nothin fool proof in the world and Engineers have to think a zillion ways to avoid total disaster...this is the perfect example..
People take forgranted the successes of Engineers but their failures make headlines..too bad
afk3279 3 years ago
well said my friend,a failure often is the most publicized thing yet a success it will never get the credit it deserves
