Not certain what the fuss is about, if you just listen to the music and read the poem . Its not mocking the cross if anything its following what I always thought should be the sprit of the thing.
A helping hand when everything is dispair.
Sounds pretty good to me.
Not to mention that voice is from an angel itself.
I'm a catholic as well, and I don't feel offended at all. She's not using the cross as a way of mocking christians like Lady Gaga on Alejandro, now THAT was offensive. But Ayumi is a great artist and performer and there is nothing offensive in using a cross as a symbol for deep feelings, plus the cross she uses is beautiful!
Noob Muslem fucktards & haters just don't understand what is the Cross for, and the meaning of this song thus giving unnecessary commentary. Dumb-tards.. Ayumi is the babe! Rock on girl!
@alkazapper You don't need to offend other people/religion/group.
People who understand her feelings in her songs won't.
To tell, I'm a Moslem, and I've been her fan for about ten years (since I was at kindergarten or early elementary), and have never been offended by her PVs =__=
@frealynn So you're a muslim who spelled muslim wrong? Is there another way of spelling it or something cause my father is muslim and this is how he spells it and how all the textbooks spell it and how other muslims I know spell it
@sesshoumarugirl4 There is. In my country and probably some others as well, it's actually written as 'Muslim', But in English, the most used language in the world, it's written as 'Moslem'. So, actually both are right. I was just using the most common writing, and since generally in YouTube people use English, I use 'Moslem' so it reduces its chance on being a bother to people reading.
'Muslem' as in the comment I replied to is wrong, though. It's either 'Muslim' or 'Moslem'.
@frealynn I'm a native English speaker and I live in the United States and still I've never seen it spelled like that before. In all of my text books (college and highschool) I've only seen it spelled as Muslim. So I'll just ask my uncle (he's a college professor at Harvard) if he's seen it spelled that way. But thanks anyway
@sesshoumarugirl4 Well sorry if I don't really know how it is spelled there, since I'm not a native and I live in Asia. I've always thought that Muslim is the most canon spelling, though. It's just that I've came across pleeeeenty articles spelling it Moslem and it's been years, so I thought Muslim-Moslem is just like Muhammad-Mohammed and so I decided to let it be. It's a thing outsiders don't know. I myself use 'Muslim' in my daily conversations, hehe.
Isn't she catholic? and even if she's not. The lyrics let you know why the cross is significant. the cross isn't just a symbol that Christians use...It's just a common thing.
But even so, i don't' find this offensive, i look at it as more of a spiritual connection Ayu was subliminally making with spirituality, life and death. The cross is like a pointer connecting to the world of earth and heaven or afterlife .
I'm Christian and Honestly this does not offend me. If you understand the SONG then you could kind of see why she used the Cross in the first place. I Love this Song. Its very Inspiring. <3
@lalagirl211 The cross doesn't know apply to only the Christian religion. Many other people besides Jesus and other christians were cruxified. It is a symbol of pain and suffering not Jesus. If you know anything about history you would know that a cross doesn't atomatically refer to Jesus and Christianity
I'm a steadfast Christian, and I am very happy to see the Holy Cross used in a musical performance this is so beautiful and pure. God bless the nation of Japan and the Japanese people.
Hate to break this to you folks, but Ayu did this gig before Madonna.
Still, every time Ayu gets lifted off-stage, I shudder. Real Ayu fans know what a klutz she is...and her falls on stage are legendary. She has fallen on stage more times than she has forgotten the lyrics to "Trauma.".
To me, the truly amazing thing about Ayu is that she is totally deaf in her left ear, and has been for quite a few years now. Ayu, kekkosho!
@Kamisamadesu1 "She has fallen on stage more times than she has forgotten the lyrics to "Trauma."" this is the best thing I have ever read on youtube.
Cross is the symbol for sacrifice. Now we can have heaven on earth if we just ask, read and fast for it and believe God can do it.. He can... has..... will... and will again do for someone who asks Him.
Anyone want heaven now, the deposit of it within you?
@MultiSuigetsu It's a symbol of life, originating from the ankh of Egyptians, and the cross itself from christianity later on. In every other religion the chross or any sort of T with some head atop the T has been known to stand for 'life' or 'reincarnation'
Wow. A cross. Big whoop. Every time an overly religious person sees someone standing near or with a cross they think they're making fun of Christianity or whatever. It's ridiculous. It's not as if she's staked to the cross with a halo of thorns. This is a beautiful song. Stop being offended about the smallest things people.
I'm Catholic and I must say that I'm NOT DISTURBED by this video, despite what it looks like, there's no Blaspheme purpose in what she's doing. This song is amazing and perfectly compatible with Christianity. I REPEAT, I'M NOT DISTURBED, I'M SIMPLY CURIOUS: Why did she choose the cross? What does this mean? What did she want to say?
She's an artist and I'd like to know more about her, that's all.
@Trustnoidiot Ayumi is not Chatholic, actually many Japanese ( nearly 70 %) do not have any religions. I know it sounds weird for you since she is using cross lol but Japanese tend to use cross for fashion such as cross neckless since we consider it is "cool" or "cute". But in this concert, I think she wanted to express " be sacrificed for someone you love" like Jesus did, but again, i do not think she really considered about deep religious meanings.
@ayu0509 Well it's fun to try to find meanings of things but people, REALLY..
I'm lutherian and and even though I am, I must say that if I had been in that show, with her standing on her cross in the air, I wouldn't care what she would be referring to with the cross. It looks COOL, it's theathre you know. Showbusiness. Why should it mean anything?
Besides, I rather look at something like this than people shaking in bikinis and doing practically soft porn music videos.
then please let me ask you, even if you don't know why did she choose the cross
what do you think of a woman put on a cross as a substitute for or lord Jesus Christ ? What do you thik about the TEXT she is singing from that cross?
Use not only your mind, but pray.
Above all :do you now that this picture probably referring to Felicien Rops S.Antonio tentation 1878 Biblioteque Royale Albert I Bruxelles ?
ah , my apologizes for I do not Know too much English language !

ascolta, per quanto mi riguarda questo testo ha un significato incredibile, perché è vero che in fondo siamo un po' tutti degli angeli senza ali in cerca di qualcuno che gli sia rimasto almeno un ala
The cross doesn't even really say Jesus. The cross can stand for many thing. Everyone thinks the cross refers to the crucification of Jesus but many people other than Jesus were crucified. I honestly don't see what the big problem is. It was a beautiful performance by Ayumi Hamasaki
Exactly, people need to realize where and who she is. She is Japanese and a probably a non-Christian. Even if she were she is a making a statement and ironically takes on a very spiritual meaning NO MATTER WHAT RELIGION!!
GET OVER IT!! People who get offended I noticed are the most ignornant about the subject that offends them.
Educate yourself, ALL religions at their core preach the same
i do not understand why people feel offended... before christianity the cross was a powerful pagan symbol representing the four cardinal points and other related symbols
She is and will always be my favorite singer no matter how she changes. I listen to a lot of different artists but somehow, I still keep coming back to Ayu~. I've been listening to her for about 7-8 years now...I'm just surprised I didn't discover her sooner.
Death by cruicifying was used long before Jesus was born, and was used as a form of execution for long after he died.A cross is a symbol for suffering due to the cruel way the execution was performed(nails in hands and feet, beaten and starved). Jesus wasn't the only one killed on a crosss, so saying that the cross means that she's trying to equate herself to jesus is just stupid.
Well, a cross is also a symbol for a burden. Jesus had to drag his own cross to his crucifiing (dunno if u can say like that). In life you can different burdens, or as eminem sang, cleaning out my closet. same same but different.
I can understand people feeling uncomfortable. But, in my opinion, having a cross doesn't really have to mean she's calling herself "Jesus." The cross is a symbol of death and the song is called "Endless Sorrow," maybe it's referring to a sadness equivalent to death.
I'm a fan of both, but I have to say the comparison isn't really fair. Madonna's performance was meant to symbolise the suffering of all the children orphaned because of AIDs. Ayumi's meaning here is something more...familiar...it's a romantic type of sorrow, or friendly, even.
Ayumi's performance is good, Madonna's peformance is good. But then again, I've never been a fan of comparing artists.
I never knew what the lyrics to this song meant, it's not one of the ones I listen to most, but they're so beautiful ;_;
My mother likes Ayu too, but I'm a bit worried about watching this show when she's about. Knowing her she'll start claiming Ayu is trying to be like Jesus, what with the cross and all o.O;; Bah. Mothers. xD
jesus is a dead body on a piece of wood, and probably he never existed, so where's the problem?that a stupid slut puts a fake golden cross on her back could be offensive?...yeah that would be offensive even for a dead body...
...did something happen? why you being such a hater, man? It's not like we all did anything to you in particular, or are you just asking for attention?
I don't really like the CD tracks I usually get the live versions since Ayumi's voice is a little more tolerable. This is a beautiful song and it's a superb performance.
this song and performance is so beautiful. it made me cry. she'll always be the best even if people say koda kumi is gaining more popularity than her i still think she has more talent without letting her boobs hang out.
Some of the subs are cut apart from each other when they should be together. Like the Course needs to be put together and not apart...just saying though...
I love her voice in this particular live DVD. Not too squeaky and not too rough, sounds just nice. And uniquely pleasant vibratoes too! How I wish Ayu's voice could stay like this forever...
i'll pm u the exact link where u can find all they have for downloading, only ull have sign up first, but it's easy and takes like 2 mins and let me tell u its worth it XD

I never knew what the lyrics to this song meant, it's not one of the ones I listen to most, but they're so beautiful ;_;

This is great! Love ayumi and the song....HOWEVER!!!
Is she copying Madonna's Confessions tour??? Which came first?
AvatarEspresso 2 years ago
This is CDL 2005 - 2006.
According to Wiki Madonna's Confessions tour was in 2006, so this came first.

i love this live version, not that album version is bad. but the vocals here i can listen to again and again.... <3

I don't really like the CD tracks I usually get the live versions since Ayumi's voice is a little more tolerable. This is a beautiful song and it's a superb performance.

agreed, i like this key the song is in better than the album one although i do like the album one as well

this song and performance is so beautiful. it made me cry. she'll always be the best even if people say koda kumi is gaining more popularity than her i still think she has more talent without letting her boobs hang out.
pinkegobox06 2 years ago 7
I agree. I hope that she doesn't end up lowering herself to her level too much. Ayumi is great on her own.
Furuba6 2 years ago
AGREED!
Koda Kumi is hard to watch, and you can hardly hear her voice over her music...
mega777 2 years ago 4
one of her best song not to say 99% of them are always really good, but this one has to be one of my top 10 :)
